(The Right) New Tyres...

I run eagle F1 Asy2's and cant recommend them enough. They are quite simply astounding.

Not had them on long enough to see how well they've worn, but i had a set of GSD3's on an old car and they wore just fine. The treadwear rating on them is "300" which is fairly comparable to most high performance tyres.

If your looking for a cheaper tyre, then IMO the Hankook S1 Evo is the one to go for.

Its fairly new (unlike the Falken) and did really well over the last few years against many more expensive tyres.

I've never run FK452's but i have driven on Kumho KU31's, which were similarly "bigged up" as a super amazing budget tyre on other forums. However they dont hold a candle to the Eagles, especially in the wet.

If your wanting a GOOD tyre, then i'd consider the Eagle F1 Asy2, Conti SportContact5P (or 3 if the 5P's arent in your size), and Michelin Pilot Sport 3.
If your wanting a cheap tyre, then the Hankook S1 Evo is where its at.

Anyone still recommending 452's are simply stuck in the past and unwilling to try new things, IMO. Better products exist!

I do find it amazing that people on here spend all this money tuning up their cars, yet fitting some cheap rubber ruins the whole experience. End of the day no matter what you do to the suspension, brakes, engine, etc etc, everything relies on those four squares of rubber pressing onto the tarmac. Cheap out there, and everything else is wasted.

452's again for me this year had them on for over 12k miles and still got 5mm tread on them carnt fault them for price and performance.
also easy to strech compaired to toyo proxies which are a pita to strech if people dont think falkens are performance tyres put some nakangs on and compare the difference i call these ditch finders tried them on old set of wheels if you want the audi to drift get a set but other than that 452's ftw

Here's my personal experiences with tyres and they're grip levels (top being best):

Advan A048 (medium - don't really count as a road tyre)
Michelin PS3
Michelin PS2
Conti Sport Contact 3
Goodyear EF1 Asymmetric
Goodyear EF1
Toyo T1-R
Yoko A539
Pirelli P-Zero Nero Rosso

I'm wanting to try the Conti Sport Contact 5's when they come out in 225/45/17, they're meant to be the PS3's biggest rival...

Ryan

See its all down to person preference I think, my car came with brand new conti sport 3's all round and hated them, got a 4 pzero rossos fitted and never changed tire since. (apart for once when I upped to 19' alloys)

It seems this question comes up weekly...Ps3's all the way for me.

Ive got bridgestone potenzas re040 on mine and they feel great..

Haven't got much else to compare too, other than cheap budgets that came on my T sport and there not in the same category.

Oh yeah...
I've just been looking on Blackcircles. The 452s aren't much cheaper than premium brands including fitting.
That's because Blackcircles isn't a cheap place to buy them from!
I've bought 4 FK452s from Camskill on Wednesday, turned up 8:30 Thursday morning. £75 a corner isn't bad considering a lot of the tyres recommended are well north of £100. I appreciate they are an old tyre and there are better things on the market, but as most of my driving is long distance motorway and dual carriageway I thought I'd give them a try. Oh, and I also need new front pads and discs for the MOT, and it's due a service. So the S3 will be costing me £1k in the next few weeks.

I've just changed my front two from bridgestone Potenza's, and gone with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.

To me, i can feel a difference already, seem to be less road noise, and feel more 'sticky' to the road.

Yet to test them in the wet, not had rain for a while.

I'm not a fan of the Bridgestone Potenza on my car, or on the last car. The Conti Sport Contacts and the Goodyear Eagle ASY are a top vote form my experience if you can afford it. The Falkens are good for the money if you're on a budget, but don't feel as good to me as the afore mentioned.

And after this weekend I will never EVER be going near a Toyo for as long as I live!

I've just fitted the Bridgestone potenza S001's and am very pleased with them... Grip a plenty especially in the wet :-D

Yep... I'll definitely consider Camskill next time round :)
What's the going rate for fitting a tyre?

Let us know what you think of the 452s once you've worn them in a bit please!

I have used FK452's for years... they have served me fine... they tend to follow the camber a bit on the front when they get to the wear limit and wet performance isn't as good as some but as an alternative to buying a budget tyre (consider them entry level as calling them budget gets everyone excitable lol...) they are pretty damn good imo...

<tuffty/>

I am currently running a set of Firestone SZ90's on my 17" wheels. I got these last week and must say in my opinion there far better than the Pirelli P-Zero's that I removed. They also have a wicked tread pattern too !

I have used various tyres in the past and had FK452's on my Evo 9, they were very good as well. I am not one for using budget tyres on any car I have owned and I dont think its fair to call Falkens or Firestones "budget" tyres, I would say they are mid range performance tyres but agree that most mid range tyres perfomr equally as well as some of the top level ones and on some occasions they turn out to be better !

Contisport contact 3`s not long fitted on the front of the A4 and they`re fantastic. Much more grip than my Toyo`s had in the dry and the wet. We sell a fair few Conti`s at work too and even on standard soft suspension cars like the Touran i use for part deliveries they stick pretty well. £95 on Camskill

Glad some folk see the light :p

I had conti's to go on mine but they arrived and were 55 profile rather than 45 profile hence there now up for sale cheap in the classified section :(

Continetal SC get my vote too, had them on the Porker and the XJR - did very well coping with 420bhp through the rears and miles better than the Pirelli P-Zeros they replaced.

Jaguar seemed to be very fond of Pzero`s. Mainly what we sold when i worked there and they wear out so fast and never felt like they had a huge amount of grip.

I had P Zeros on my X type Jag too & and yea , they wear proper fast ,
thought it was me slinging her around too much .
My Audi has contact 3s on the back but some miss matched cheapo crap on the front ( thank you Mr Dealer - tight sod )
So thanks guys , I will stick with the contis and sell off the pile of zeros I stocked up with off E-bay .
