Is there anything documented on this yet as ive been holding out till I saw something but think I might just go ahead and do it ;)
 
I have too, No additional power but deffo smoother through the range and I have lost my mid range missfire. I am happy, just need a way to hold them down reliably
 
i have'nt had any time to collate the tfsi coil pack tests...
but for those who were waiting on them..

Brief Summary

Zero power/torque gains in dyno terms..
some reported gains in spark stability (no misfires where previously there might have been the odd one,) and some reported "smoothness" and "mpg" improvement reported..

Test was on TFsi coils and 0.9mm gap vs std 0.7gap on stock coils on lupo, 280bhp level of tune to be "typical" of remapped S3's etc etc etc

Claims of gains in power I simply cannot confirm from the tests done. No change.

Fit them for power, dont bother
Fit them for improved part throttle, mpg, "smoothness", yea why not... cost the same

Well I guess if you need to replace your packs like me then it's worth it, otherwise spend it on KFC, beer and more food!

Not sure what boost has to do with it bud... I'd be worried if it did ;P

Its heat that makes the coil packs rise as it heats up the air trapped in the plug sacrifice when you put then in... tend to see this more often with cars that are oily... oil down the plug orifices means the rubber of the coil pack won't grip and makes the matter worse... the same 'cut a notch out' trick will work here too...

Mine haven't moved at all... my 20v coil packs didn't either...

Has anyone got them fitted and can confirm the smoothness or MPG gain?

Im considering a change on next service.

Do i need spaces for my APY S3?

Tuffty is running these at the mo without any spacers. He said he has noticed a smoother drive and smoother idle. I will be fitting mine tonight so can let you know in a few days.

The adapters will make the fitment a bit more secure but they can be run without spacers.

Yes.... my average over half a tank went up by 2.6mpg... so... after fitting the TFSI coils my MPG improved enough to raise my overall MPG of the last fuel up by 2.6mpg from the previous fuel up...

Ideally yes as the bolt down coil pack cam covers have no means to locate push down coil packs...

I have had mine fitted since last year and to say i have a little idle problem due to a air leak it made it a lot smoother runner

looks like INA can get the coils for $20 a pop too, which makes ordering from the states a much more appealing proposition, as they're ~£25 each here from the dealer with lots of discount applied.

Barring the shipping costs, the coils and adaptors together are cheaper than just buying new coils here in the UK!!
 
One thing never to forget when buying from the states/outwith the UK is everything is subject to vat and duty and i know the parts in question will be hit with 20% vat and 5% duty as im waiting on the 034 kit coming for my b5 rs4. Do your sums or it could get expensive.
 
You wont get hit with VAT if its from Europe, or if the item is declared to be worth less than about 40quid iirc.
 
You will only not be charged VAT if VAT has already been declared as being paid in the parent country. If something is expensive or you cant afford to pay twice then i would not suggest devaluing a part to get it through customs just to avoid a little duty as i dont think its worth the risk of damage/loss. Each to their own, just wanted to point out that its not as simple as you put it across, and that there most likely will be extra costs involved.

Also when buying anything from abroad your bank charges you (2.75% on average) of total amount and gives you a poor exchange rate. They do try to make it difficult :-(

I got the coil packs and the spacers from IE with the price they sell them at inc the VAT and duties i had to pay they still worked out cheaper than just buying the coil packs from VW/Audi
 
I fitted my TFSI coils tonight and I'm struggling to see the need for the adapters! They sit in just ad tight as my 1.8 coils and there isn't as much movement as I thought there would be.
 
They are more for positive location than anything else as they have keyways for the coils to prevent rotation etc... std 20v coils have a single keyway that locates in the cam cover... the taller tfsi ones have two keys...

TBH you are more likely to need adaptors on AGU/APY engines as they have the bolt down coils...

I did notice the grooves on the side of the coil pack rubber section. My wirin loom is quite tight and that seems to cancel out any rotation the coil might want to do.

Well both of us are running them without adapters at the moment so we'll see if there's any issues. The adapters would make it all look neater I must admit. I'll probably get some anyway as I'm planning on loosing the engine cover to show off the engine once it's done.

I May purchase and run without spacers, but if i get some, where cna i buy them? or can I get manufactured? (Also are they the same connector?)

The coilpack adaptors, in black anodised (black only initially) will be £52+vat/set and include stainless fixing bolts required.
 
So whens the group buy as i need some of these bad boys? Also what other colours you doing bill?

They`re the early ones of the 07K905715F so could possible be fine. Westy used the early ones too and they were fine but think his were in the middle somewhere where as the C`s are the very early coils.
