ok so garage have just called me saying they can get hold of a new turbo for me today but its quite expensive £514 or something.

so they called to say its up to me, id rather get one cheaper, obviously.

i found this on ebay...
K04 - 023 Audi S3 TT Quattro Seat Leon 1.8L BAM Turbo Turbocharger New | eBay

is that what id need for my 2002 BAM S3?

(if someone had one in fully working condition that i could pick up today it would be a massive help pm me)

been without my car for 2 weeks and its driving me mad!!

Chinese... avoid....

£514 sounds a decent price tbh... would be a refurb unit at a guess....

CR Turbos may have a refurb on the shelf but I don't think it would be much cheaper... from VAG they are quite expensive...

...should mention you can't buy a genuine K04 for £200 that is new....

Mine originally went off to Turbo Dynamics for a refurb but was beyond repair :( what's up with your turbo?

Apparently everything on exhaust side is knackered. Haven't been up to see it yet. Probably is repairable. But I was thing get a new one, or reconditioned today. Then get mine fixed and sell it take make some money back.

Popping up in an hour, will take a pic. They said something about being sheared off, sounds pretty shot to me. I was boosting ok though, 26psi according to gauge.

Have they said whether it is repairable?

At that boost I expect the hotside to be a mess... all the K04's I have seen that have run high boost end up like that... Welly will have a pic of his and have taken one off a TT recently that looks much the same...

That haven't said yet no. Said the balls in my court weather I send it off to see if it's repairable or not. So just going to get a new one fitted so I get car back sooner. Then look into having old one repaired. If so I'll then sell it on if it's cost effective etc. garage have ordered one from where I'm not sure will be with them Monday.

Did Sandip sell his K04? Might be worth asking him.

I expect mine to be ruined pretty quickly then once the engine is built :(

I don't expect there will be a reason to run that kinda boost level mate... normally you will hit a point where more boost won't give more power but just increases heat generation (and EGT's) and lifts torque... assuming you are coming to Bill's for tweaks once done he will ensure a safe tune...

It will be high EGT's that cause this type of damage... boost level is irrelevant in context as on some setups you can get high EGT's on less boost... simply put if you can get away with using 26psi as EGT's and other critical areas are fine then all will be good... if EGT's go into the protection zone then its best to turn it down...

Don't forget more boost doesn't mean more power and don't get fixated on it... there is timing advance and total flow to consider... boost is there to force airflow... when you hit that barrier of airflow then no amount of boost will help :)

Really looking forward to seeing the results of this

I think when my car is up and running I need a booking with bill to go over the map I think. I didn't get it done, previous owner did. So don't have any idea what its at.

The bloke does no his stuff doesn't he. Where is he based, I'm Oxford?
