Hi, I have an Milano Red (i think) 02 A4 with 110k miles which Ive had from new. A couple of years ago I noticed that the paint Lacquer on the roof had bubbled and started to peel in a few spots, I got this resprayed at my own expense of £300. Recently this has started to happen in numerous places all over the bodywork which looks awful, the guy who does my spraying says he thinks this has been a fault when the car was originally sprayed. The only way to sort this is a full body respray which will be very expensive. Has this happened to anyone else? Do I have a case to take it to Audi to see if they will fix it?

You can take it to your local audi dealer and show them, cant remember who but someone on here took theres back as the paint work has a 12 year garuntee so give it a go and argue your case, no doubt they will try to get out of doing the work but if it turns out to be a defect then your still covered

Does the guarantee cover the laquer if the paints OK?

Not 100% sure mate cant see why not its still effectively a paint defect i suppose, its a defect caused buy their error when painting the car at the factory, like i say though im not sure.

Paints only covered for 3 years.

Quite sneaky on Audis part, as it means half the things that should be covered under the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty get knocked back as being paint defects!

Does the paintwork not just have a 3 yr guarantee and the 12yr one is for corrosion?

Sorry my bad i thought it was paint work covered for 12 years. Sorry for wrong info and thanks aragorn for clearing it up

Thats it did you have anything attack the surface eg sap bird droppings ?

No nothing out of the ordinary, cars garaged when not in use. Like I said first the roof and now its the rear nearside quarter panel and boot, both have several patches where the lacquer has bubbled and is peeling off.

Hi I have an 01 Audi A4 in the same colour.

I have had this problem for the past two years, starts with just a small almost like stone chip size area which grows and flakes, every panel now has a dull area surrounded by cracked lacquer, it will peel and flake round the edges and goes brittle, the car looks a complete mess and allows water underneath which lifts the lacquer and makes it worse? it now needs a complete respray and Audi Derby where useless and very unhelpful, just an Oh Dear, can't understand it? The roof and bonnet are the worst, but now the rar passenger dors have started, and it definitely isn't caused by stone chips or bird droppings?

happend on my rear door but car is a 97, isnt doing it anywhere else
