hi what else is realy needed to get the best out of the hybrid turbo. i hear that a xs power manifold and 3 inch down pipe but what else should be done sud i be thinking about an intercooler. turbo timer?
i was looking at backdraft motorsport site at there BDM K04 Hybrid Turbo. where do you buy the bader5 tip from and how much
Badger5...badger5 - Google Search
Personally I would ring Bill, and talk him through your application and he will talk you through what is possible, what is probable, costings and your best way to achieve it. Buying a hybrid and slapping it on is only half of the work, if you speak to a specialist like Bill you will get first class service and will be working with somebody who knows what they are doing.
Have you considered the fact that you will need to install rods to safely achieve the stated powers of a hybrid?
What sort of power are you looking for? Why are you looking to do this work?

sent you a email badger to your work email. what is the diffence between the too and what du du get with the extra 100 quid
Thanks!,i will be in contact as wel then, another thing out the way then and not a bad price really!,thanks for replys, some of us are more new to more engine work mods!,thanks!,will book in for remap at some point as wel!(with front bumper of)!
K03/4/hybrids are spikey in boost deliver... combination of that and more timing advance creates extremely high cylinder pressures that puts a lot of stress on the rods... our cars are old (regardless of mileage) and the stress of this level of tuning requires rods IMO...
Have you seen the log of Prawns hybrid, on day one of it's tune?
what is the differance with the stage 1 2 3 hybrid turbos except the power too the one that backdraft motorsport offer
The only one worth getting is one built with the 2283 comp wheel...
CR Turbos I know do these as Bill @ Badger 5 has done a few and has defined his own spec for the ones he fits... in Wellys S3 with all the usual mods it made between 330hp and 340hp
All this stage nonsense is just that... nonsense IMO... having been involved in most of the builds on this section of the forum where hybrids have been used I can say just buy one with that comp wheel and be done... there are all sorts of power claims with these but the 2283 is proven... have loads of data for it... its even been used in a K03 and made over 320hp...

Im getting a 2280 comp (hybrid) made, because the 2283 is rarely avalible i think!,is this a bad idea? The only one worth getting is one built with the 2283 comp wheel...

Fact is it pretty much costs the same to build a stage 1 than a stage 4!
by the way im not slating what you have said to me,im on a learning curve!,you and tufty have the knowledge,im asking, just want the best power for money, and you have given me a great price!Tuffty,
The 2283 is a great wheel, beautifully made and can flow immense amount of air. I've shown this to my machine guy and he was stunned by the complexity and work involved to make this wheel and for the price it's amazing.
All this said it is still over kill for the humble k04. Problems with surge and small exhaust housings make it a little to powerful. Yes 344bhp can be achieved but this was a one off, a practical 310-320bhp in my opinion is about right for this turbo, others may disagree. With this in mind the 2280 compressor is more than capable of this, however nobody wants a lower spec hybrid turbo, why spend £800 on a hybrid when for £900 you can have the top spec one! I agree with this but also think the some companies down play the 2280 when fitting to stage 1 turbos to warrant the extra cost of the 2283 compressor when actually it costs £18 more to buy! Call me cynical but I've learnt a lot about the business of hybrids I would be very interested in seeing what similar spec hybrids, 1 with a 2280 and the other a 2283 do side by side.
I agree staging turbos is just a marketing tool. Fact is it pretty much costs the same to build a stage 1 than a stage 4!
where is the cheapest place to buy a hybrid turbo

OE rods are rifle drilled.. cheaper firged are not and rely on splash lubrication to lubricate the small ends.. This in my experience is not 100%, as some installs have a faint small end rattle over time as the small end pin wears due to inadequate lubrication.
Rifle Drilled forged rods have pressure fed oil to the small end like OE... which to me is my favoured rod. It costs more to get this done hence price is more.
There is NO MAGIC SAFE POWER/TORQUE FIGURE where you can be guaranteed rods will be ok...
these engines/cars are 10 years old and have done 1000's of cycles...
It is FOOLISH to think that sub x bhp and y torque its "ok"
Dream on... and hope luck is on your side.. cos thats what you are riding.
