1.6 tdi remap

Hi all, I have a 1.6 TDI A3 for my work car and was looking at getting it mapped to add some more power as its a sleepy at times.

my question is, does anyone know if this is possible and has anyone done it on this model.
i've read in a lot of forums there was an anti-map lock on the ECU stopping a lot of remappers from being able to install or create any maps.

this was a while ago though, and i wondered if anyone knew of any maps that are now available for this model.

i know if i wanted to go down the mapping route i should really have gone for something bigger like the 2.0 TDI, but its a work car and I was limited by emissions etc.

looks like this engine cant be remapped. but you can get chips for it. does anyone know of or could recommend a could diesel chip?

i know DTUK on this forum, but i've heard of TMC. their chips tend to connect to more sensors on the engine, so using my fluffy logic would make these seem like a better bet than DTUK's which just plugs into the common rail and boosts fuel..

would i be correct? if not, why are the extra connections needed?

Where the 1.6TDI is concerned we have a system which connects to common rail, boost and crankshaft sensor.

But, even with that system youre not guaranteed to see good gains.

The 1.6TDI is problematic full stop, and i would say that most tuners have issues with this engine.

Weve started adding the Pedal Box to the 1.6TDI's and the feedback has been great

thanks for that Abyss, hope you dont think i was being derogatory towards your product, just a curiosity as why some boxes connect to 3 points, and some just one. i wasn't aware your's connected like that as well.

i know the 1.6 cant be remapped, but i wasnt aware it was such a pain for boxes as well. hvae you had much experience with it so far then?

We've had mixed results with common rail, an the same with the multi channel systems too.

The 1.6tdi can be remapped, with a simos tdi adapter, however there are reports from customers stating that, they have had problems with their cars not starting, sometimes, after the remap.

Has anyone had these problems but not had a remap?

The 1.6TDI common rail engine uses the Continental PCR2.1 ECU which Shark Performance have spent many hours developing software for on their chassis dyno and on the road, to ensure a smooth delivery and great driveability. The Continental PCR2.1 ECU is protected with "Tuning Protection" as per many VW Group cars since 2010, and as such the ECU needs to be removed and unlocked before the ECU can be modified. Shark have worked with leading hardware manufacturers to develop a solderless unlock method using precision-made probes with spring loaded pins. As no soldering is required, this is the safest and quickest method to unlock the ECU and it falls in line with all of our other solderless solutions that are available for other Common Rail Diesel and newer TSI/TFSI with protected ECUs.
