Ipod control through Sat Nav screen?

The S3 I am looking to buy has the factory fitted Sat Nav and I was just wondering if the standard ipod control means you can control and scroll through your music and playlists on the Sat Nav screen with the ipod/iphone plugged in.

If not then do I need the Dension for this or is neither possible? Sorry but I have never owned an Audi so don't have a clue.

Depends what year S3 and what options are fitted.

Pre 09, no.

Post 09, yes if the mk2 RNSE is accompanied by an AMI kit.

Dension gives you track info on the DIS only.

Alpine KCE 425i integrates with RNSE and iPod can be controlled through the head unit.

AMI (Audi music interface) sits in the glovebox, with a tray for the iPod to lay in.

Can be retrofitted to a mk2 RNSE only.

Price depends on what you already have, ie factory CD changer can make it a bit cheaper.

From memory I think price is £500+ for supply and install. Cheaper if you do it yourself but requires coding.

NHN (Nigel on here) is the man who can. He comes highly recommended by many.

It's a 2007 07 plate so will it be the Mk1 version? If so then which of the above is better and how much are they both?

does the 2nd button from the left at the bottom, have the word "media" or "cdtv" written on it?... media will be mk2

well the dension would be cheaper i guess, comes with everything included in one box for about £130, but the only downside i think is that on the rnse unit it wont tell you what track is playing, youll be able to scan your playlists etc, but to view what track is playin that will be on your DIS

Just remember there's not a lot of space on the dis, so u don't get much info with Dension.

The Alpine is far better IMO. U can watch vids too if they're on your iPod.

2007 S3 will be a mk1 RNSE

Yeah the alpine ones really good but I was told you'll need a lead from kufatec (however its spelt)? Is that correct

I retro-fitted ami, was quite simple, got the parts inc glovebox for around £200, the only bit I struggled with was the coding, but trial and error, got there in the end. It's a very good system, and I'm happy with it.

Person to ask is MattAndrew on here, he has it installed, he give me a quick demo a while back at a meet, it integrates well and for all it can do I was impressed.
