Rear number plate LED's x 18 & the law

Have had these installed in the last 4 vehicles I've owned and had no Police entanglements; and I'm in the Police incidentally...

As a retired copper (also from Aberdeen) I honestly don't think any of the guys would give your car a second look TBH, ..apart from to admire it of course, lol! So many new cars leave the showroom with LED number plate lights these days, ..and so they should! I have just fitted a set to my car too. Paula  xx

I also have similar ones fitted to my car. The police pulled my friend over who also has these and said they are illegal because they show too much white to the rear of the car. Only got a warning. We've both been talking to police (traffic officers) regarding them and they told us they are perfectly legal and the officer must have just wanted an excuse to pull him over.

Jen, you could buy some of the number plate bulbs that T8ups is selling if you want to change from the nasty yellow bulbs to nice white ones. They only cost £5.95 posted, they look fab and they don't cause the problem of lighting up the whole back end of the car (and the road) like the LED's do. These are snip for what Trups sells them for! xx

Here is a piccy of some fitted to Helifella's lovely SB.

The new Lexus which has just come out show off pretty much the same amount as the ones I have. Very bright, and they are factory.

Which would you prefer now having seen both?

I've got the LED's in mine now (from the same link as I posted for you) and they do look the biz, ..but I'm sure they can be seen from the Moon, lol! xx

Below is a pic of the LED's.

Apologies for the poor picture quality, it's a bit too dark in my driveway.

Followed a white range rover evoque home tonight and the rear LED's doesn't look too different from mines, although it was white so probably makes them look brighter.

Cheers,
Bruce

Can't believe the amount of Evoques there are in and around Aberdeen, already! I really wouldn't worry about how bright they are, Bruce. All modern cars leaving the factory these days should have LED plate lights and let's face it, by their very nature LED's are bright, lol. xx

I think, the LED's would look ok on dark paintwork and the Trups festoons on lighter paintwork.

Sorry to dig an old one out Paullie. Are these identical in function to the German based LED's Warren purchased (and tested with good results) for his 8P3 S3?

If anyone on here has tried and tested the ones above from the UK seller at least we know they won't error for 2010 8P3 and later owners like myself (I forget what years Warrens is off hand...)

Thanks.

I bought e same ones as Warren. They worked fine for about 6 months and then the error started popping up. Maybe they moved slightly, I'm not sure. Changed some coding and stopped the error message.

On another note I have had them since last Dec / Jan and never had any issues with the brightness.

They do seem extremely bright.
They appear to have a brighter output than the poor single reverse lamp!
