Turbo upgrade :)

The error code was stored from a previous run in the car when the MAF came loose from the homemade/pikey reducer that I was using. The only code now is for the N75 valve that's unplugged so all good. Cheers Aragorn (turbo fitted yet? :moa:).

To do:-

Fit clutch.

Turbo went to engineering shop this morning to remove the bolts you helpfully snapped off for me ;)

Hopefully have it back for the weekend.

I'm hoping the weather might be nice tomorrow, and if it is, i'll have a play with the heavy lifting equipment on the driveway :)

I don't want to make it too easy for you do I lol.

Sounds good, I hope you get some dry weather then.

I've got my injectors back and I'm very pleased with the service. I have attached the before and after spec sheet below, as you can see they are now back to 'as new' spec..

Any updates? Have you put the injectors gone in yet? What boost pressure is it producing if so?

Sorry for the late reply.

No, I haven't put the injectors on yet. I need to fit a new clutch first and then I will only fit the injectors and 3" maf on the day of tuning as I don't want to risk getting the mixture too far out.

I might have that CJ ecu you can use soon matey, as i want Nick to slurp the file out and see what's wrong with it. Then it's yours as i intend to go ME7

What's involved when going ME7 is it just a straight loom and ecu job or have you got to start adding downstream oxy sensor and boost pressure sensors etc ?? And is it just better from a tuners POV as it's flashable ?? I'm interested in What's the pos and negs of this mod ?

I've made a bit more progress.

I ordered a Sachs S4 clutch and release bearing today. I will be ordering a TTV flywheel before the weekend and will hopefully get it all bolted together over the next couple of weeks.

Everything else is ready for mapping so hopefully not too long now..

'Fools rush in' lol.

I've had a lot going on at work and Christmas blah blah.. but now I'm back on it. Hopefully it'll be track ready for Inters.

How's the V8 Rover coming on?

Inters has a track?

V8 Rover hasnt moved in over a year. Well i moved it back 4 feet the other week as i'm trying to assemble a new workbench in the garage.:tapedshut:

Too many other things going on though, got a list as long as my arm to sort on the Avant. Springs, shocks, front control arms and CV boots are all sat here waiting to go on if i ever find some free time when its not ******* down. I also need to fix the clutch and turbo, and work out what on earth is causing the awful clanking.

Shed is being ignored for now, it works, and doesnt urgently require anything, however i'm still slowly collecting bits to convert it to ME7, and need to build and install a subwoofer enclosure and buy/fit a sub and amp to sort out the sound system. Avant needs sorted before that happens though.

S4 Track car hasnt been touched since before xmas. Again i need to pull my finger out and spend some time on it. Need to get the dash loom taped back up and reinstalled, then the crossmember and dash back in. The donor car needs stripped and scrapped, etc etc.

Yeah, GTI International at Bruntingthorpe, I'm sure I've seen you there a few times? lol

I know what you mean, I've been trying to stay on top of the general maintenance on mine but even that seems to absorb many hours at a time.

I'm aiming to get the Green A4 taxed and tested asap too!

Did you install the SP51X on the Avant?

No, your old SP51 is on Shed. Avant has a slighty broken standard K03. Looks like its now going to be getting marks old scroll unit.

You can't go wrong with a Scroll turbo IMO.

I spoke to Sean at Scroll Products about possible upgrades for my Garrett and we were talking 350HP+ figures!

I think i'm probably going to get a T3-60trim from a 4x4 Cossie and fit that to shed at some point. Tough as old boots and buttons to rebuild.

Yeh, its kinda annoying as it means i'm going to have to change EVERYTHING. Thus far i've managed to stay with the stock exhaust/cat/intercooler etc on both cars.

I think for dawns i'm going to leave everything standard, fit the scroll, and remap it to run a flat 1bar of boost. Stock MAF maxes out at 190g/sec, which should be enough for 230hp, and i dont really imagine it'll make any more than that on a conservative 1bar map. Maybe see about putting an intercooler on it at some point. I want OEM power delivery, just MORE.

But if i go for a T3 on mine, i'm going to need full exhaust, sport cat, manifold, fat injectors, big maf, intercooler etc etc etc...

Surely the stock exhaust will suffocate Dawn's though with the SP51 at 1bar of boost?

I like the way Dawn gets the nice quick sensible car and yours is a mental Cossie hybrid.

Yeah even on a budget big turbo build the costs seem to rocket quickly enough

I only want a k03-73 but even then thats going to cost a bit as trying to find a decent secondhand one will be near impossible lol! Why cant we just be happy with what we have? :p

..ha ha if only!

I was driving home with my N75 valve disconnected last night when I reached a section of dual carriageway and a BMW M3 flew up behind me flashing his lights and then I was swiftly overtaken. This is the behaviour that makes me want more and more BHP.

I hope to meet Mr BMW again when I am running full boost...

Jason: build one. Take a look at the thread over on the 8L section by beachbuggy. You can put together something to frankenturbo spec or whatever other spec you envisage for not much more than £300.

And yeh, the missus doesnt drive that quickly, and i'd much rather keep the missus car standardish and sensible than getting all silly. Keeps it reliable etc.

As for the exhaust, i'm not really sure tbh. Our old FWD was remapped on an otherwise completely standard car and it worked fine. Sure it may make less power than a car with a decent exhaust, but i dont see it otherwise causing any real issues. These cars run ~10psi as standard, so taking it up to 15 isnt really that huge an increase!

Collecting my clutch tomorrow but the flywheel will be 3-4 weeks :(

I think over this period I'll fit a pair of new front tyres (Yokohama Parada Spec 2) and have my new downpipe welded up as the one I'm using at present is joined in a few places as it was kind of a prototype.

Paradas? Christ mate those things are hopeless.

Eagle F1 Asy2's or Conti SC 5P are where you should be looking, or perhaps Hankook S1 Evo's if your on a budget.

Hopeless how? I don't think I've encountered a tyre with much more grip on a dry road; they might as well be slicks in the snow but that's when the Mitsi comes out to play.

Well they're years old now, meaning a newer tyre like those i mentioned should easily outperform it.

More importantly though, the Paradas are completely useless on anything other than a completely dry road. My Eagles however are so sticky i can drive around corners in the rain just as quickly as i would in the dry, and they just grip. Hit standing water? Yep they still keep gripping. Not tried them in the snow as i run winters, bar some slushy stuff a few months back, and even then, they were superb.

You say you've never encountered anything better, but have you actually tried the F1 Asy2 or the Conti SC 5P?

Tyre tech is moving forwards all the time, you really should move with it, rather than sticking with the same old products!

Are you sponsored by Goodyear? ;)

Yes, I probably am being a tad ignorant but the Paradas do stick very well in the dry. No, I personally haven't driven on F1 Asy2s or Conti SC 5Ps so can't make a comparison. I have heard a lot of good things about F1s so I might give them a go (assuming that you'll take them off of my hands if I don't like them).

If they're the right size i'll have them off you, I'll be needing a set shortly for the missus car anyway, i run 17's though mind!

Jason.s did you have your ECU custom mapped by Rtech? If so did you stay with the original ECU (chip in, out, in, out..)?

Yeh he did.

R-Tech is also about to map Prawns M3.8.3 ECU with the K04 hybrid on it, so if they can do that they should be able to sort yours out too :)

I've had the S4 clutch for a few weeks now but my TTV flywheel arrived today

I'm aiming to get it installed in the next couple of weeks and then FINALLY I can get booked in for some tuning!

Oh yeah and what's with the new rating thing??.. and why am I 'an unknown quantity'? I feel a bit upset by that.

Coming together then!

I just dropped off a pair of "1z" flywheels into my local engineering place to have them redrilled for the 240mm S2 cover plate.

I'm looking forward to seeing what this GT28 can actually make!

A quick update.. Unfortunately the head gasket has let go so until I replace it there won't be any further progress on the turbo upgrade :sob:

I'm begining to get the feeling that it isn't meant to be!!

My Eagles however Not tried them in the snow

Don't! not sure if your are assyms but if they are the F1 GSD3 ones I had take a taxi!
They are like soap in the extreme cold.
I agree, awesome in wet and dry but on ice and snow I was sliding on everything, cost me a rear sub frame when I slid sideways into a 6" kerb

Yeh, to be fair to them, i had a run down the A701 at the end of last year when we had that snow, it was mainly slush, rather than actual packed snow, but they were faultless.

I swapped to some Nokian WRG2's for the rest of winter and didnt see another drop of snow :p
