Morning All!

Thought I'd better put up a little thread for the latest addition to my car history! Bit of a back story but after quite a few different Seat's, VW's and Audi's (pics available on request!!) I finally got my hands on what I thought was the holy grail, a B7 RS4 Avant in Sprint Blue with buckets:

Well that ride was short lived due to the fact that I found it quite frankly boring, so I decided to shop it in for an S3. Found the one for me and made the treck to Bradford to collect it. Not before speaking to the previous owner who I tracked down by the power of google and the wonder of forums! Anyway here are some pictures (all pics taken on iPhone so apologies!):

Home from collection day:

Then the fun began.

First on the list was to pop it up to the boys at Storm Developments for a set of new front discs and pads oh and some Matte Black CSL style reps. 8.5x18 et 42

Then wanted to fit my Alpine touchscreen and boost gauge (loving the brand name!) so got busy with the tools one evening:

Next on the list was to re-enable the Revo so we popped over to see the geezer that is Mr Warren Cox. 15 minutes later and the magic was done! Thanks again to Warren for being a top man as always. Revo with the help of a full TBE Miltek transformed the car completely and I'd say is as quick as the RS4 if not quicker.

Then things got a little more serious as I popped it into a local bodyshop for him to smarten things up a bit. Grill, Fog Grills, Mirrors and rear valance done in gloss black. Oh and respray the front bumper whilst he's at it:

Next mod, not to everyones taste I'm sure, was a plate:

Then I popped it back up to Storm Developments for a set of H&R Springs and new top mounts and this is how it stands today, Phase 1 complete:

Phase 2.....coming soon.

Cheers for looking.

Hi and welcome back. Car is really nice. Hope you enjoy the forum again.

Welcome back, Very nice indeed! Do you get told your car looks like the audi rings on the front grille has been stolen? As they aren't as visable from a distance? I have the same set up and cant make up my mind whether to change it or not...

Thanks buddy! No one has mentioned that to me as yet, the only comment I did get about the front was that it looks hella aggressive!

your audis ***** lol car looks great nice work fella

Thanks mate! No idea what the missing word is but I get the idea!! :D

Another person that found the RS4 boring - I'm not feeling quite so isolated now lol

looking very tidy and welcome back :icon_thumright:

Wow! Boring? I have never even sat in one so tell me, how are RS4's boring?

Thanks Jen :)

I was so gutted with the RS4. Don't get me wrong it's a great car, quite possibly the best I've ever owned but something about it wasn't for me. Ditto on the feeling isolated, people look at me like an alien when I say I found it boring!

nice S3 mate! love the wheels!

Thanks buddy! I wanted something different and of course cheap but staying 18 with a good offset. These fitted the bill perfectly and will do for now until Phase 2 is complete!

Too heavy, don't produce the power they say they do, too expensive to modify, expensive to maintain (this to me wasn't an issue for me if it had been fun to drive), un-involving drive.

Welcome back  congrats on the new car looks good so well done.
Some MY11 rear lights and possibly a de wipe would finish the rear end off nicely
Love the RS4 have a HUGE soft spot for them
Get photos up of your other cars to :) what else do you have planned for the car?

Thanks Ash!

MY11 lights are on the list, not sure I could cope with a de-wipe on the rear, my OCD for it not being clear would drive me insane!!

Phase 2 will be Spec 2+ clutch, APR fuel pump and a Forge TwinkTake I think.

Phase 3 will be KW v3's and new wheels.

Phase 4 will be Turbo swap etc.

Nice selection of cars you've had there nobber (ahem!). I remember your k1 from scn....one of the nicest on there. Were they 19" rs6's on the golf? Looked good!

Thanks mate! High praise indeed about the K1. I honestly wish I'd kept it now and took it to the next level. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!!

The Golf was on 19" RS6's yeh. Same wheels on the K1 but powder coated gloss black with a painted white lip.

I feel the same way about my Cupra mate. I know the k1 is marmite but for me it's what the new 'R' should have resembled.

Glad to see the car is coming along nicely Paul, looking really sharp mate! Keep it coming!

Yeh the new R is a bit bland looking for my liking. Never been a fan of the Mk2 Leon without the K1/BTCC or whatever you want to call it kit. Never thought the lines flowed as well without it.

Thanks Warren! It's come along way in the 3 months I've had it and best of all it still puts a great big smile on my face every time I drive it, which for me is all that matters!

I have to agree with Nobber and Jen on the boring RS4, for me the RS4 looks the dogs boll**ks but didn't go as well as I expected (only kept it 3 months), perhaps because of the lack of turbo kick, but one things for sure - it sounded gorgeous!

Nobber, car looks sweet BTW!

Cheers Buddy.

Definitely agree with the noise, it's the only thing I miss, albeit it's not loud enough in std form, even with the sport button pressed. I only kept mine for 8 months because I couldn't get on with it

I think you hit it on the nail they look/sound amazing and you expect alot from the hype that everyone raves about but behind the wheel it was just disappointing.....your kinda waiting for the kick in the the teeth, the wobbly legs and the urmm I can't mention as I'm female lol

There a couple of parents that drop their kids off at school in rs4's and as they drive by it's like ppphhhhwwwoooooorrrr but then I think nah it's not for me, I want that adrenaline factor pls

Loving in the K1 too, I had a Leon FR and always wanted the body kit on as felt it finished it off nicely but couldn't warrant the cost of it tbh.

I loved the K1 because it was different, agressive looking and the right colour combo! It also helped that it was stage 2+ which put a massive smile on my face and upset some drivers of seriously more powerful/expensive cars in the process! That's also why I love the S3. It's like the K1 but more subtle and has the ability to put the power down through all 4 wheels, something the Leon lacks.

I think what it boiled down to in the RS4 was that it shows it's ability's on the outside, so everyone knows what it's all about. A stage 2+ Leon/S3/Mk5 ED30 etc etc are hiding there ability in what is affectively an affordable family car. Or it's just simple maths:

If fun ≥ Running Cost = Keep It!
If fun ≤ Running Cost = Change It!

Well it's been a long time coming but Phase 2 is now complete.

Picked the car up yesterday from the boys @ Strom Developments. Parts list fitted:

LOBA/Saschs 550NM SMF Clutch kit
Autotech Internals
ITG CAI (Thanks Warren!)
RS4 Fuel Valve
MY09 Rear Clusters
Custom Map

Figures are 365bhp and 366lb/ft. Boosting at 1.5bar and holding 1.2. Peak torque is around 2.5-3k rpm with and it comes in like a wall! It holds pretty flat all the way round to 6.5k rpm and the delivery is relentless.

Gotta say the car is now alive.

As for the clutch, the pedal is obviously heavier and a little snappy but that'll improve over time I'm told and I do get some noise/vibration through the cabin at certain revs, but nothing that a change down/up or a little injection of throttle doesn't sort.

Chuffed to bits.

Phase 3 coming soon!.....

Sounds really good.

Glad you're enjoying it and that you've got more on the way.

I can highly recommend forge twin take. Looks great sounds awsome. Love ya motor.

(Flamesuit on)

Looks well BUT I would put the badges back on the rear....

Finally a comment about the thread title! Made my day buddy!!

Thanks mate. It's been a lot longer in the making than I'd have hoped, but real life has this funny way of stealing all of your modding money!!
