[Blog] Dan-Jnr - 2002 Audi S3 8l (225) Negaro Blue

Thanks.
I have all the bits to do my arm rest upgrade just waiting for some spare time to become available to actually do it.
Need to borrow a dremel or something to cut the centre console neatly.

Lovely looking S3 Dan - enjoy it I really like Noggy Blue ones. Question about your Red Powerflex Dog Bone, can you notice any excess vibration now you've fitted it? Heard it has with some.

Thanks.
I haven't really noticed any vibrations since fitting it, but the engine doesn't rock like it did on the OE mount.

Awesome ok thanks that's convinced me - any special tools needed to fit it? Notice you used a vice (which I don't have!).

The vice was handy to hold the mount. Can be done without but will be fiddly.

Looking good mate. Didnt know the ally mirrors were that expensive. Glad my car came with an original set when i bought it :)

Upgraded the gear knob for the Limited Edition Aluminium gear knob with soul black leather gaiter.
Audi Part Number is 8L0863278BR
I think it compliments the other aluminium touches in the cabin, and the existing knob was looking worn.
Going to give the arm rest a crack tomorrow afternoon if its dry.

Latest edition, the leather arm rest. Finally fitted, can't believe how easy it was.
Cheeky tidy engine bay shot too.

Little update this week:

Awesome GTI fitted cruise control, new front discs/pads, new rear discs/pads (Pagid).
I have to say the cruise control is a brilliant device. Set the speed, lift off the throttle and away it goes, can even be adusted without using the throttle. It is already increasing my MPG. Normally £50 V-Power gets me 180 miles, lets see what I get this week.

List of options to be completed:

Battery cover frame and twist bolts - DONE
Black leather armrest - DONE
OEM Audi TT pedals - DONE
OEM A3 8P Limited Edition gear knob - DONE
OEM Audi Alu wing mirrors - DONE
Cruise control - DONE
Single to double DIN conversion - parts collected
RNS-E Sat Nav - to be booked
OEM Audi Auto Folding Mirrors - some parts collected
Audi S3 8P MFSW - parts collected

Be interested to see if you manage to pull off the the Auto Folding Mirrors - good work so far.

Folding mirrors should be a doddle, got the parts list, all available from Audi, and found someone who can fit and code.

Looks lovely, just like mine now you have the chrome mirrors (bar the wheels infact).
Would you mind sharing how much the cruise control setup cost? Did you have to source the parts yourself?

Thanks.

Wow that's awesome - look forward to seeing your folding mirrors is action! :)

What parts did you need out of interest?

Electric folding mirros, folding mirrors control module, relay, and some wiring. I have the part numbers somewhere.

No dyno, organising a RR shoot out with my car club in the New Year so will wait until then.

Gave the S3 a good clean today and went out with my house mate for a few pictures before the sun set.

Update:

Been to Awesome GTI to sort out a knock and why the car pulls to the left.

Leon Cupra R top mounts and bearings
4 wheel alignment

Knocking has been solved but my car still pulls to the left. Think I might have to go to Audi to get this fixed.

Tbh I wouldn't take it to Audi, better off finding another specialist to look at it.

Car looks great though!

Thanks Ian.

My friend who own's the R32 above know's of two other specialists in Manchester, so going to take it to one of them when I next get some free time.

anyone know where i could get cruise control fitted for a nice price like awesome gti?

Thanks Andrecc. OEM+ mods are great.
Next on my list is the RNS-E retrofit now I finally have all the parts I need.

Let me know how you get on with the auto folding mirrors mod mate. I'd absolutely love that - particularly useful if you have the chrome mirrors as it detracts less attention from them when folded in.

Lovely looking clean example :)

I'd love to do this mod myself eventually. i think it transforms the dash and looks fantastic whilst still looking pretty OEM

Dropped my car off with VAG Technik in Eccles on Tuesday and collected yesterday.
Had the following work done:
New clutch
New flywheel
New slave cylinder
New gearbox shaft seal

I can't thank the guys there enough, very friendly, informative, no bull sh*t, top VAG specialist.
They shown me the old clutch and flywheel and pointed out heat spots and wear, also how little clutch was left.
The mechanic also advised on some other jobs that need doing like CV boot, brake switch, and rocker cover leaking.
Booking them for the next visit.
The car is now running sweet, no slipping in 3rd and 4th, strong stage 1 power all the way now.

Will be taking my car back to them next week so they can have a look at my car pulling to the left.
Awesome have failed to fix that problem even after new top mounts, suspensions checks, and wait for it, 3 trackings.

Next job this Saturday, RNS-E install. Can't wait to play MP3's, fed up with listening to the same 5 CD's I have in the car.

Two updates in one, not had the time to post recently.

Firstly:
New pair of Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2 on the front as found a slit in one tyre and were pretty much down to the wear markers.

Secondly:
Eventually found the time to get the Audi RNS-E with Audi Bluetooth/Hands free kit module fitted by OEM Retrofits.
This piece kit is worth the money. The sat nav is brilliant, when not in use its shows the road you're on and the compass direction you're travelling on the DIS.
Behind the screen are two slots for SD cards which I have loaded with MP3's.
The bluetooth add-on is better than I expected. When sync'ed to your phone you can browse the phone book through the RNS-E screen, and the sound quality is clear at both ends. The little mic is hardly visible in the top right corner of the windscreen.

How much would that be I wonder?

That looks pretty sweet!

Insanely jealous of your non scratched climate control :(

I was lucky and found an untouched one on eBay. The one I got with the single DIN parts from eBay was very worn.

Another update which I did the Tuesday night. Only took a couple of hours after removing several awkward clips and the airbox.
New 3" Turbo Intake Pipe and Jetex filter. The induction noise is not over the top, but the standard dump valve noise sounds a lot better. I plan to modify the existing air box so that it looks OEM, as I don't like the filter being on show.

Cars looking good mate! Some real nice subtle upgrades there! In a way I wish I had a facelift to do the RNS-E retrofit, but at the same time I much prefer the pre-facelift centre console with the whole thing being piano black rather than just a small section of it.

Do you have any better close up pics of the 8P gear knob by any chance?

Az - thanks for the comments, the gear knob isn't an 8P one, its for the 8L. They were limited edition for the S3, or standard for the TT (i think). The part number is [8L0 863 278 BR].

Dan I love the route you are taking with your S3.

Every mod you've done to yours is exactly the sort of thing I've done or want to do to mine.

I'm also insanely jealous of your climate lol My climate and the piano black piece of trim where the hazard light is are both in real need of replacement :(

feck on a stick - Thanks for the comments. I might have a spare piano piece, I'll take a look and PM you a picture later.

Only a couple more OEM+ modifications to do now. Auto Dimming Rear View mirror, and Electric Folding Mirrors.
