jb0o's 2.0TFSI & 3rd A3

After working on Scott's (SWILKO) Sportback I took a liking to the LED numberplate units he had installed. I already have the LED numberplate bulbs installed which are powered by 3 SMD's but I've never been too keen on them as they seem a bit too dim and ugly. These are complete units, not just the bulbs, and are powered by 18 SMD's each.. maybe too bright?

Installed them 1hr ago so I'll be sure to get some night pictures when it gets dark. Such a big difference compared the to the old LED's but if I find them too bright at night, they'll be getting removed.

Agree J, had them on mine a good while back and i just found them OTT, didnt like the fact i could see the reflection off the rear bumper. Im going for t8ups solution for the my10 cars the non led ones which are a white light but are not so bright. Perfect IMO

Is there a link with photos to these anywhere?

MY EYES!!! MY EYES!!!!!! ;)

Yep, far too bright.

Good to see you're not one of those who blindly (lol) sticks by a mod and tries to convince themselves and others that they really do like it.

Haha no chance. I'd like a nice white light but thats just ridiculous.. Should have known really having 18 SMD's but we all learn from our mistakes :)

Got a night picture. Not the best photo being a night but you get the idea.

My opinion... WAY too bright, they'll be coming out tomorrow.

Guess the good thing is you cant see your plate very well, on that basis keep them, lmfao

Will them festoon fit any where else in the car?
Like the boot?

Edit:=- are they even festfoon? If not question still stands. :)

Haha, good point... wont be able to ID me due to my numberplate being blanked out by a very bright light :)

Haha, nice one Matt :)

They wont unfortunately as the LED's and the housing are one complete unit. That brightness would be ideal for the boot!

Normal uprated white bulbs would do the job in most cases I assume. LEDs are too bright as you already noticed. Man I feel like having proper meet up soon, so many new cars on the forum...

Fitted the OEM Bluetooth last night. Spent a good while labelling and re-wiring everything as the loom came with no terminals or even the housing for the microphone plug.

I also managed to get the module behind the glovebox where many people have said it wont fit ;)

Ordered the MFSW yesterday so I'm hoping for that tomorrow or Friday which will enable me to fully utilise the bluetooth.

Coming along very nicely mate

I love how your car is going forwards and mine is going backwards :p

I wouldnt of stuck it there Jonny, that antenna is way to fragile to risk it getting snapped of, always under the seat mate.

You'll be back in no time mate ;)

I've always installed under the seat previously on customers cars but to save me extending the wiring I thought I'd have a look around the glovebox and see if there was anywhere it could go. I found a spot where the front of the module slides in and is secured in place by the glovebox. You can see the antenna from the side of the gloxebox and its not in contact with anything and the modules very secured in a way that it wont budge. I'll get a photo for you when I get home and see what you think.

If you're ok with how it fits then no worries, just for peace of mind mate & no issues later if box has to be removed etc, doesnt need any peeing about as such.

Unfortunately when I was out of stock a few times I had to rip mine out which was the latest version anyway, then install in other cars, real pita, but now a magician at fitting/removal lmfao, I now keep a stock of lol, the actual plastic housing for fitting oem is only £20 from audi, neat little system tbh.

Yeah I spotted the housing in ETKA, not that expensive tbh and worth the buy if doing a full professional job.

Heres the photo:

Kinda looks like its sat at an awkward position against the padding but it sits fine and very much doubt it'll cause strain on the antenna though I will keep an eye on it. I have seen some other antenna installed which is simply a bit of wire on the end of a fakra -- have you seen those?

Yeah as its for my car I decided to order the casing today, so when back will be getting her finished.

Yeah seen those antenna's, call me anal, but prefer oem tbh, peace of mind goes a long way when installing these systems hey fella :)

Indeed it does :) always like to keep things as OEM as possible. Its actually bugging me a little bit that I've put it in the glovebox as thats not really where its supposed to be, I'll probably move it under the seat within a week, haha.

My ploy worked lol

Nah, all about making sure we dont leave opportunity for things to feck up lol.

Thanks mate. I was thinking more so the MY09 as I'm not sure if the contrast between the darker MY11 lights and the Akoya Silver would be too much.

Hi Jonny,

Firstly, lovely motor mate!

I have the MY11 rears on my Akoya and I think they look nice but its up to you!

Fitted the MFSW at the weekend, certainly much easier to use the Bluetooth now!

Also managed to snap up some S3 pedals for a mere £40 today so they'll be fitted when they arrive.
