Picked up my S3 yesterday and spent too much time and pterol enjoying it today.

I think I got a good deal - 2002 S3, under 100k miles, full service history inc. cambelt and waterpump. Bodywork was in good nick, but the alloys could do with a refurb and it's got fairly bog standard tyres too. Ended up paying £3500 (with the private plate included) but it was originally advertised at £5,000!

The car is pretty much stock. Not been remapped, suspension lowered, etc.

What do you guys suggest as good mods / upgrades to ensure it runs well? Saw a thread about how cleaning the injectors makes a real difference to the car and that should be realtively cheap and easy.

Also going to purchase a Parrot hands free kit from Halfrauds.

Will post pics as soon as I can, but to be honest, if you find a picture of a standard S3 in silver with black recaros, it won't be too much more different.

Congrats on the new car. Sounds good. Enjoy.

Pics or you cant be in the fastest colour club yet ....:p

Pics or your just plain lying :). Also welcome mate.

Sounds nice, theres a few of us on asn tat live around kingston. Is the plate 's3 hpy'? I saw that driving around yesterday.

Can't beat the feeling of picking up a new car and just randomly driving around!

Yeah that is a good feeling, im getting that now and ive owned the car for nearly 18 months!!

from 5K advertised to 3.5K accepted?
Did you find anything dramatically different to what he advertised ?

Hey guys, nice to see a few locals here too! My plate is * at the moment.

The price is a bit of a long story! When I phoned him up about two weeks ago, the car was just up on auto trader for £5k. I told him I'd seen some identical to his for about £4,500 so the following day he put his down to £4,499. When I went to check it out yesterday, he said no one had come to see it yet (which was music to my ears!).

Asked if I could get the keys and take it for a spin, but the car didn't start as he hadn't used it for over two weeks. Thought that was crazy, if you're going to sell a car, at least start it up before someone comes to visit and make sure it all works! Jump started it and it was all OK. The car looked good, drove well, but is due a service pretty much now, tax in two months and an MOT in three months. Used all that for bargaining and told him I thought it might be the alternator rather than just a flat battery that might the issue and said I'll take it for £3.5k today or I'll need to check out a few others.

Drove away with a smile on my face :yahoo:

Hope I'll still be smiling after the service!

It's nice to see - what would otherwsie be classified as a non sale, to a bargain sale. Most people would be put right off, but I commend you for seeing past this and using it to your advantage. I would have done exactly the same had I been in your shoes and everything else was OK or I knew what the other 'livable' faults were.
I remember negotiating quite a lot off an old car (bmw) I was buying. It overheated on a long test run we gave it so we had to factor in the worse possible situation whilst having a good idea it was only the thermostat (known issues with that model).......and that's what it was. Another one where the car (ford rs2000) did not have the silver vin plate stuck - again visual checks made, definitely genuine, but it put a lot of people off. I Knew exactly what I was buying and manage to get replacement VIN plates from Fords for free later and again lots of money off.

Where do you guys who are local to Kingston take your S3 to get serviced? I've been taking our Merc to just the ticket in New Malden who do a great job, but wondering if you guys have a recommendation for a good specialist.

Cheers in advance!

Welcome! Now just get your rims re-furbed in anthracite (or spangly anthracite in Nilz' case) and you can join the fastest and smartest colour club in one go.

To answer your original question re mods/upgrades to ensure it runs well, here's a few suggestions;
Service with cambelt, tensioner & water pump
Replace Haldex oil & filter
Check ARB, steering arm & wishbone bushes for wear & replace if necessary
Check all hoses for splits/leaks
Consider replacing PCV system with an oil catch can
Consider N249 deletion to minimise potential for hose splits/leaks.
Contact your local Audi dealer and get the ignition coils replaced for free (there as a manufacturer recall on this recently - have a look on the forum for the thread. Lots of people including myself have had the coils replaced FOC.

Hi Aaron,

Cheers for that - will book the car in for a service at just the ticket this week (used them before and they have been great, but wasn't sure if I should consider a specialist for the S3)

The Doctor,

Perfect. That's exactly what I was looking for. Will work my way through the list (cambelt and waterpump have been done thankfully).
