Guys,

My car is due an MOT in March (Well, April).

I'm not sure if it will pass or not? The reasons.....

Front suspension arms groaning slightly. Very rarely, there is a knock.

Puff of blue smoke on start-up after a lengthy stand (i.e. Over night) - Valve guide seals seeping (was told they were recon heads.....obviously not!)

Crack in windscreen in the N/S lower corner. Due to the trim, I cant tell if its an edge to edge crack (did pass mot last year like this though)

Thats all the faults I can find.

Good points....

Some of you may be aware of the non running condition i bought the car in last March.
Had new:

headgaskets
Timing belt & tensioners & idlers
Aux belt
Radiator
Non genuine cats
plugs
Regular services by me (its had 3 in less than a year!)
Coolant temp sensor
Maf (2nd hand)
Throttle Body (2nd Hand)
G12 coolant
Rear brake pads.

Car has covered 172k miles, no service history paperwork other than what I have bought/done to the car.

So my choice if the car fails is to sell it with a months MOT and 2 months Tax so it can be driven to new owners place

OR

Break the car. I don't really have the space unless I can be sure that the parts would sell quickly.
Has full grey leather which is unmarked and no rips etc. Really is tidy.

Genuine S4 17" Avus alloys

Genuine RS4 front grille

The rest is standard.

Reason for this is we are due our second child on April 28th, and I really don't have the funds to rectify this at the moment. We are halfway through changing our bathroom suite as its well past its use by date!

What do you guys think my best options are?

Cheers,

Dan

With the amount of effort you've already put in, I'd fix and keep it personally.

That said, if you do decide to break... First dibs on the alloys :yum:

Same as the Coventry boy.
Keep it and get it going, you've spent enough time and effort on it. Might as well keep it and enjoy it.
but it all depends on how much more time and effort you really want to carry on putting in to it.

If you do break it what's the rear door cars like, Is it an avant, load cover, single or double din, leather hand break handle, Heated seats in hvac and erm............I think thats it. :)

1st how much would you be asking for it if it fails mot?
2nd is it saloon, estate?
3rd what colour? silver or dark blue?

I guess it depends if you actually want to keep the car or not?

It wont fail on a puff of smoke. So the issues are a potential windscreen replacement and front arms. Cheap and nasty ebay parts will get you buy as a temporary fix, but a full arm kit is the real fix which costs around £350 for Meyle arms.

The other thing to consider is what you do if you get rid. Presumably you have the car because you require a car. If you do get rid, you need to buy another, and in that case your often better maintaining the vehicle you know.

Sorry for the confusion........It's the silver Avant. 2.8 V6 Quattro.

Facelift headlight units, not xenon.

Does have a grey load cover.

Rear door cards are good. Apart from a scratch or two on the wooden trim on the O/S rear door.

Dont think it has leather handbrake.

Not heated front leather seats.

Already had a PM about the wheels and grille straight away.

Front bumper is standard, non headlight wash etc.

As for the car whole, I wouldn't know how to value it.

I DO LOVE THE CAR! Don't get me wrong. It's also the second longest car I've owned!! lol. Normally I part with them after a few months, I get bored very very easily. My S4 was the longest car I've owned. But I love the Audi. Its not too bad on fuel, it handles well, and so far on the ice around here its been fantastic.

So my thinking is, that if/when it fails, I was looking to replace with an A6 2.7T Q. Get back to the bi-turbo scene but have a larger space in the car for the kids etc. Or if it passes, look at selling and buying the above model.

I do need a car, but we do have two cars currently and can afford to downsize to one for a few months as the wife wont be able to drive for two months after the birth. (c-section etc).

If it fails you still going to break it? :)

What ever happens, breaking or selling. Want to sell me your load cover?

Congrats on the kid as well.

If you do break it, i'm intersted in the gearbox, prop and rear diff, so long as they're sensibly priced ofcourse.

And how the heck do i price that? lol. What would you look to offer? Everything works as it should, and the box is still smooth and taught.

Whoops, just seen your post now! sorry.
if it fails will defo more than likely break it as long as I know the parts are in need and will go quickly as I dont have much storage space, nor can I keep the shell here too long as I also have two Saab 900 Turbos here which I'm supposed to be fixing back up....when I have time.

Congrats on the kid as well.

Cheers Scott. Round two! ha

Set your self a time limit and pimp that ***** out the best you can.
It helps it being a facelift.

Out of the B5 owners on here I think alot of bits will go.

Still in two minds about selling or breaking. If I was to break it, It would all have to go within two weeks.

So i can gauge interest, please post below what part you would like and a price you'd be willing to pay. I'm not wanting back anywhere near what i've spent. just enough to recoup some cost of new motor and maybe some nursery bits. lol.

big/heavy parts I would prefer a collection on these!

Or come and spend the day here pulling bits off you need. Tea/coffee & biscuits provided. :)

JUST TO CONFIRM.....It is a PFL, 2.8 Manual Quattro Avant, full grey leather, lowered, RS4 front grille, S4 alloys etc.

I know some people have said above first dibs etc...but really I need people who could collect n buy sooner rather than later.

Can post pics of bits if enough interested is gauged.

Cheers,

Dan

I need a gearbox, but i'm slightly concerned with the mileage. I have two quattros both on 120k and both have knackered gearboxes, maybe i just got unlucky, but i dont want to shell out for it, do the work fitting it, and find its just as bad...

Have you got space to store the parts? Like a garage?

That way you could strip everything off and scrap the shell, giving you a bit more time to sell the things like interior.

I think you can easily make more than your 600quid asking price back if you break it. I was semi-tempted to just buy the whole car and break it myself, and tbh if it wasnt on 180k and the mileage was concerning me, i probably would have :p

*HMMMM*

Gearbox is sound. No crunches, no grinds....If your over York way at all, come and have a drive of her...

I do have a shed but its full of Saab bits! lol

So, I'll be breaking this over the next few weeks, anyone interseted in anything from it then give me a PM!
