As a few of you know, I put wheel spacers on my car which required longer hex bolts and longer locking nuts.
The hex bolt covers fit over no problem but the round locking nut covers were too big for the Mcgard Lock Nuts and simple just fell off..

Here is my guide for how I modded mine for a perfect grip and fit.

You will need SIX round lock nuts in total, Superglue and that double sided sticky pad stuff used to fix number plates on, also a pair or strong scissors, a small hand saw and a pair of long nose pliers.

Cut the hex pattern of the top using the small hand saw.

Leaves you with the hex pattern whuch you can throw away and also a plastic ring which you keep.

Next you make a split in the ring.

Then you cut in half.

Leaves you with two strips, (enough for two covers to be mod)

Now get one strip and wrap it tight around the Mcgard bolt and mark with a pen.

Now with long nose pliers holding in place in line with were your pen mark is, use superglue on the over lapping part, then compress together and wait to dry.

Test over the Mcgard and it should now be a tight grip.

Cut the double sided pad into two small strips.

Now stick the two strips on either side of the inside of the round cover nut intended to use. I stuck it near the opening.

Now get the inner ring made and put it inside, using a bit of force so it sticks to the sticky pad. You will find it a bit fidly to get in, but it does go in, giving a nice tight and secure fit.

It should now look like this.

Now test on your Mcgard bolt, and it should not come off. It should be quite a firm and tight grip.

Repeat this for the other three covers, and then you have job done!!

I have read that people have just used blutak to hold in place, but by doing that, the fit is not as secure and everytime you take the cover off, you have to mess around putting the tak in place again.

The beauty of this mod, is that you can take it on and off as you please, just like a normal cover!!

Guys, I know that this is the not the best mod in the world, but I thought that this would help overs who have had a similar problem. I am also pretty sure this will work on other brand locking nuts provided the diameter is smaller than the actual cover.

Cheers all.

Proper decent re-usable solution, and a great guide; spot on Danny.

Appreciate you sharing it.

Many thanks Warren, hope this simple but yet effective mod helps others out.
Searched high and low on google but with no joy, so maybe this mod is a first?

I'm just in the process of using this with the S5 Danny. I'd been using a right concoction of bits and pieces stuffed into the cover which wasn't successful then remembered this thread. Will get it done this afternoon. Hopefully my dexterity with match up to yours!
