morning boys, hope alls good in Blightly! Glad xmas is over and back to some normality. Looking forward to starting our house build, cant wait!!!

hiya James, we are building a single storey (what most are over here) but without the tin roof lol! Its north of Perth near to Joondalup. We have taken ages on it as we have designed it ourselves using ideas from lots of others. Will have some stackers in so we can view the pool, cant wait! Just means loads of painting for me and roll on the DIY.

Nice, would be great to design your own house and see it take shape. Not anything I know much about, my only advice would be plenty of power points lol!

I love Perth, went there in 1998 and hope to go again some time. My joint favourite city with Vancouver :)

Nice one sarah.
My dream is to build my own house and a 12foot high wall/fence all the round.

But the more I looking in to it and the more I learn about it, the less like are the chances of us doing it unless we win the lottery or every one in my family drops dead and I get all their money. lol

You going to create a progress thread on the build?
It be interesting to see.

A swimming pool?
Lucky sod, I'd love one.

yeah its a great place to be. As for the power points lol, think we added another 22 over what the builder gives! They do a pre start before everything commences which we went to in December. There you choose everything from colour of roof, tiles or colourbond, kitchen, taps etc and they can price up some upgrades etc. Ours came out at over $16k, erm, maybe not lol! Got some but we can do alot ourselves. I like doing DIY so happy dayz.

When you are next over, call round for a beer.

Hey Scott, dont give up.

Yeah was thinking of doing a thread but wasnt sure if anyone would be interested. Oh yes there will be a pool, cant come all this way and not, it would be rude not to! Builds are different over here, theres no double glazing, well there is but for a normal house its about $30k which is just stupid money. They dont have heating as such either which suprised us as the winters feel a bit chilly! We will have reverse aircon so that heats when needed.

In Plymouth? :slapped:

Not in plymouth. Sod that. I want to live in the country side some where away from people.

I wont but at the moment I think its got to be put on hold.

Yeah do a thread, there might be more people interested in it than you think.

Its the same in spain. My nan has no heating. its all AC generated heat I think.

Did I read that right?
16k to build a house?

Builds over here start from around $140k which is about 93k in UK pounds (sorry Aussie keyboard doesnt have a pound sign and it goes funny if I change to USA lol)

There may be a few cheaper but they can rise to big $$$$$$ but they tend to be the huge 2 storey mansions. Some offers are for land and house packages which are good but we bought our land about 2 years ago.

Been a long time coming you moving over there?
You've been over there a year or less right?

Does that price include land?

I like the idea of buying some land, putting a mobile home on it and building the house from the ground up by my self and some helps from friends in the trade to save money.

Yeah was a long wait but well worth it for us. Things are very different and while you had the summer it was chilly here but now its great. Hot days and warm evenings where you can sit outside, its great. Down side are the odd bugs you get and wow some are huge! But spray the outside of the house every 3 - 6 months and alls good.

We have been here nearly 9 months now and time has flown.

No the $140k isnt for land too. Land can be dear here and some plots are small but there are some good deals around. Alot of folk have 2 houses and rent one out, seems to be the norm. Helps with the retirement funds I guess.

Well if you know some tradies then its worth doing one day if you can. Problem is you can get carried away with the wants until the price hits lol but hey you cant take it with you in the end so enjoy it while you can is what I say.

I will do a build thread, will start with the pics of the block after 2 years when we first arrived. Weeds turn into trees fast here!

Problem with that is it takes years now dude, there is so much red tape it's unreal!!
A few mates are trying as we speak but with now joy!

But on the plus side I'm a chippy so I'll so 1st & 2nd fix carpentry for you!
Or you could go timber frame....... ;)

Cool. Can't wait.

I got family over there some where.
My grandad's (RIP) brothers and sisters are over there.
Never really seen or had much contact with them due to the distance and internet not being what it is today.
Might have to rock over and keep the familys talking I think. :)

Your pretty much sorted then Scott!

Now that would be sweet!

Close just not much money for it and and about as much of a clue about the legal side of it.

Need to sort my house in Bristol out and then I can move on.

The misses prefer the idea of a conversion or a fixer upper over a fresh build.
I'm slowly coming round the idea.

Much happening to day people?
My count down to the redundancy meeting is at 2 days (today and tomorrow).

On a plus note the misses's job is safe. La Senza got bought out last night by some UAE company who seems to own half the shops in any high street.
They got alot planned for LS in the coming months as well, should be interesting for her.

Hope your meeting goes ok Scott. As for La Senza, they over here and by the looks of it in most major cities so dont think they are going to disappear.

Its a name.
They are owned and ran by different company's depending on where they are in the world.

I lost over half of their stores in the UK.
Only 60 remain.

Morning all.
Scott, good luck with the work situation, as Dave said, there is going to be a lot if these things around this year, but you will hopefully be fine. i am glad that Sarah's job is secure though, one less thing to worry about.

Morning guys, good luck with the job Scott, i think there will be a few of these stories this year unfortunatly...

Bankers still have jobs right?

Thats very true.
We'll see what happens.

If I'm out of a job i'll just spam ASN for a job and see what happens. lol

Hey peeps. Westys so most of your day will be spent on here then eh;)

Sarah, can't wait to see the build thread. Are the property prices stable over there ?? Love a bit of renovation but would like to be able to build a timber frame house one day. Mortgages are a nightmare On them so it's going to have to be a buy and build job, can't see that happening any time soon :(

Scott deffo get a doer upper dude that way your more than likely to make a short term return and see good long term profit. glad Sarah's job is safe. I'm seeing loads of our custies fold at the mo. Big and small, 2012 is going to be a tough year as save said.
Good luck with the meet dude hope all works in your favour. Think they'd be stupid to let you go personally.

The lil dudes rash has gone, god knows what it was, looked like little blisters all over his body :wtf:

Crappy day for me on a database fault. Fraud is massive in our industry at the mo, had a site yesterday hacked 387000 times over a period of 9 months :faint: didn't go down to well with the md lol

Anyone got any good new to cheers us all up??

Not much really mate.

a young (In forum age) it saying S3Dave has sold him a duff box.

ut if you read his thread but more importantly post 57, you can see he stripped the box down and then fitted it to the car. the issue he is currently having could be down to a shoddy strip or rebuild of the box.

Cheers, will starrt one then, should be an exciting time and one full of hassle knowing us lol

Generally the press has said prices in all of Oz are falling slightly but here in Perth its showing its actually improved. You can still get alot for your money but the bargains of a few years ago have gone. Prices are higher now.

There arnt many timber frame houses here! not with termites but saying that our new neighbour to be has just built a timber framed house and it looks good. Lets hope the termite treatment is good!!!

We did a few renos in the UK in the past, gutted and started afresh. Was hard work but well worth it.

Todays helping of gifs is a bit poor and lacking.

I am sorry.

Nice one Sarah, shall keep a beedy eye out for it. Renovations are dans hard work if you do it yourself but give great rewards.

Scott only one ninja cat and a boot to the head!! Shameful ;)

Morning all.. Whats Cracking?

Scott only 2 gifs? must admit the boot to the head is funny tho! Ninja cat not sooo much... Man up scott and get some more on here!

Serious post here, I am not fishing and I am not day dreaming.

I want a 500 Abarth Essesse.

I have spent months driving them now, and they are IMO lush. I have just been offered an additional role at work as an Abarth sales specialist, if I take it I can get a brand new Essesse on interest free for trade price, which is obviously a great deal. As well as Abarth training and the ok to sell from the Abarth showroom as well as my current Mazda showroom.

I am asking you guys if I am nuts, and what are your opinions on them? From my point of view I KNOW I can get more mpg on my commute to work, insurance is lower and the mods you can get for them are epic. 200bhp isn't hard to get. They handle VERY well and are well built.

But what do you guys think to me retiring the A3 and turning it into a roard legal track car?

And does average Joe think Abarth 500's are gay?

For a young lad, no.
For a girl, no.
For grown man, yes.

Thats my views.

It's funny you should mention this because I was just taking to a mate at work who went out in a 500 the other day. It wasn't an arbath but was one of those really economical ones (air or something) and he said it's a cracking little car.

If you could get the number plate 'B3 NDA' then I think they would be prefect for you..
