i have fitted the mani and the downpipe...pictures and info to come on a separate thread after the remap

Surely the fact that it's a solid step reduction will cause huge turbulence? It's a 19% reduction in X-sectional area. also it goes straight back to 3" after, so the gasses would have to expand again and slow down,

That's a 5th, which seems like a lot to me. All other reductione are smooth transitions

I completely agree with you mate.

If smoothing out the standard airbox can increase airflow enough to give and extra 2bhp and 4lbft of torque then a slight ridge in the exhaust piping can make just as much difference.

ok...

an example.. you may like this :p

1. Place a lit candle in front of you approx 300mm away from your face.

2. Try inhaling (sucking) as hard as you can to extinguish the flame

3. Now try blowing as hard as you can to extinguish the flame

Which one is successfull - Same pair of lungs at play here... (and for those who cant do either, give up the fags and get yourself down the gym.. lol )

Enjoy
:D

I like it Bill, but I'm having a slow evening!

Are you suggesting it's not worth the time and effort porting out the smaller flange? because gains on the intake side are far more worthwhile than gains on the exhaust side?

yep.. i used to run my ihi on 2.5" exhaust... 330-340bhp
3" on my current monstor setup... the wrong side of 600bhp.

its not ideal having a step, but i seriously doubt its noticable in any power terms..

intake is more susceptable yes. once out of the engine/downpipe it would have to be hideously restrictive to have an effect

Hi Guys

Another SEAT boy invading :)

I've just bought the 3" dp/de-cat and manifold and can not wait to get fitted and see the results!! My car is in with R-Tech at the moment getting forged rods fitted so the dp/manifold will be done at the same time. My current set up is -

2004 SEAT Leon cupra R BAM engine
Pipercross cone filter (jatex sat at home waiting to go on)
Custom cat back with de-cat exhaust
TX autosport FMIC
SFS 3" TIP
007p re-cirv
R-tech custom spec 2 map
285BHP 320ft/lbs

SO will be really interested to see if the results once these new toys are fitted. Bill once this is all done I'd love to have a drive down to you and see what I get on your rollers :p

For 2012 im hoping to add WMI, stage 4 hybrid turbo and a few other little things.

All the best
Adam

Hi Adam,

Are you getting 285bhp & 320lbft with the stock Exhaust mani and DP??? That's pretty good. I'm struggling to break into 280bhp and hoping the xs mani will sort it ;)

Hi mate, yes this was with stock exhaust mani and dp, when working on the car niki commented that it was a very healthy car (once a couple of boost leaks were sorted lol) so really excited to see where he can take it now forged rods are in aswel as the new mani/ 3" dp

What mods are you currently running?

Dyno lottery applies... don't get hung up on figures unless it was dyno'd at Bills then you have a direct comparison...

Currently got the following:

- BAM engine
- Stage2 Revo software 21psi
- Large toyosport front mount intercooler
- Badger5 TIP
- Phenolic gaskget
- Brand new K04 (bought in June) as old one was cracked through in 3 places
- Brand new fuel pump as old one was shagged
- XS DP and decat
- 007P
- Full silicone hoses
- WMI but currently not running

I've got an XS mani a large port head, and IE rods going in at Easter.

If I'd had it done on any other dyno I would agree but the R-tech dyno is knowen to be extreamly accurate.

Still pays to have a few readings from different rollers though.

Wouldnt put it past Rtech getting those figures though. I was knocked over by the amount of knowledge they have of 1.8t`s when i went for mapping. Never thought mine would do the power it has now on standard turbo either and its not flat out either!

Not disputing your figures but fact remains Westy's car was dyno'd on Bill's and your on Nick's... regardless of alleged accuracy claims unless they are done on the same dyno there is no basis for accurate comparison...

...and for what its worth, Bill's is known to be extremely accurate too :)

Once all the new bits are on the car and sorted I will (if bill doesnt mind) pop down to him and see what I get on his rollers, its just a shame its sooooo ****** far away!! 180 miles each way :(

cheers bill as soon as I get the car back i'll give you a call, Im hoping to pick it up Jan 28th

here is my magic run i made on bills rollers. stage 2 with standard mani and standard dp. 284 bhp

hello adam :)
bill my mani has turned up today. is it ok to bring upto b5? flanges are perfectly flat, the quality of the manifold is night and day over the old one :)

yeah that would be awesome. when you plan to go up i will meet you. im not far from b5. its nice living near one of the best tuners around :)

lol I live miles away from decent tuners, R-tech is 100 miles away and bill is 180 :( It will be a saturday if thats ok with bill?

A few pics from today, manifold and downpipe will be on the car mapped and running by the 28th fingers crossed

Did your manifold fit ok over the exhaust studs? I mocked mine up yesterday and the stud holes didn't line up perfectly so will need a bit of opening up to fit properly.

I honestly couldnt say bud, I'm not fitting it, everything is over at R-tech being fitted, I just popped in to take a look, He didnt mention any problems but i will ask him next time I talk to him. Are you having yours on a dyno once fitted?

having just fitted mine, it was an absolute nightmare to get it all on!

I'm hoping it's well worth it in the end though!

Dan: is yours a v1 or V2 manifold? My V1 manifold needed opening out a bit to get onto the studs properly.

was it a nightmare due to bad design? or just a pif of a job?

Mine's one of the first (if not the first) Version 2 mani so I hope it fits perfectly.

I saw one of the new one this weekend and test fitted it to a head.
it fitted without any issue! amazingly.. lol
only one of the nuts will be awkward.. open ended spanner will get it, but not a ring or socket due to proximity of the runner to the stud, but its not too bad at all.

What size spanner is that Bill? I think i'll get a cheapo one and cut it like Prawn did.
