a rattle sound on start up but only last a few seconds

as above has anyone had this happen or is it cam chain rattle ?

Sounds like the cam chain tensioner...... rattles while pressure builds up

can i just change the tensior as its not long had the cambelt done

tbh its fairly normal.. if it rattles all the time is when it normally needs changing... I have rebuilt the majority of my engine including new oil pump and non return valve/oil filter housing .... mine still does it occasionally... normally when cold and it is cold out atm...

Non VVT tensioners are around £100 but VVT ones are £350 odd...

Its worth mentioning you can get hold of the plates/shoes now that the chain slides on and is more likely to wear for around £30

Mine does this, i was told that it could be the starter moter on its way out.

Iv'e had a new OEM VVT fitted and it still makes the noise on start up so keep your money and spend it something you need.

I have this too when starting in a morning when it's freezing, my mates a VW tech and said don't worry unless it does it all the time, it's just the pressure building
