brakes -sharpness- compared to golf tdi mk5

Hi, i own a A3 tdi and have replaced all 4 discs and pads for genuine ones........the brakes are 100% brilliant as before......one thing ive never figured out is,theyve never been sharp as the golf mk5 my other half owns.

the golfs brake pedal only need to be touched and the brakes are well sharp........just like a brand new car......where as my audi ones are good but never been as sharp........any ideas? i would of thort new discs/pads would of made them like new again.

The golfs pedal must travel about 2 inches and the audis must travel about 3-4 inches before the car brakes

Maybe theyre just different?

Probably different on every car. I'd actually say the brakes on my A3 are a bit too abrupt. There's is little modulation so they are either on or off which means you need to be really gentle to avoid putting passengers through the windscreen.

maybe a brake fluid change/bleeding cud make a difference??????

Had the fluid changed last month and no difference. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather the brakes were like this than the unresponsive crap that was on my BMW. Sometimes you'd hit the pedal and nothing at all would happen.

I'd say my A3 brakes are better than my Golf, as mentioned above get the fluid changed IMO

My brakes are very sharp at the top of the pedal but you have to push quite far down to get any more braking power, quite hard to be smooth

mmm, I could do with a remap myself, does it hurt?

Mine have a dead spot for an inch or so and then come on very strong. It feels like the fluid could do with a bleed but even after doing this it still has the dead spot. This is a 170TDI with the bigger 308(?)mm setup.

Ditto very disappointed with mine. The V50 I had before had awesome standard brakes.

I've always thought this to be the case; I've had 2 MkV Golfs, an Audi A1, an 8p2 and 2 8p3 A3's and the brakes have never felt as sharp as the VW. However, my current A3's brakes are s##t hot so it could just be that I've gotten used to them...

Awful in what way?

Mine are snatchy but probably the best standard brakes I've had on a car in terms of stopping the car quickly, they just take a bit of getting used to prevent every stop form being an emergency one. It's scary when I drive other cars because I'm now so gentle with the brake that I often have that "oh sh*t" moment where I think the brakes don't work at all.
