high mileage 1.8T quattro a good idea???

I'm going to looking at a high mileage A3 1.8T quattro tomrrow, they car has done 146K and has a ( according to the owner a full service history). it pasted it last MOT with no advisories so I suppose that it brushes etc are in good nick.

What should I be looking out for when I go over it???

My s3 has done 129k and purrs like a kitten. However, I've pretty much uprated everything bar the engine and turbo.

At that mileage, have a drive of it and see how it sounds both in motion and when idle.

You'll want to see this full service history and check cam belt changes and anything else major.

Listen for knocking, test gear changes, turbo spooling, clutch, all electrics and check bodywork damage. You have to expect a fair bit at that mileage but the residuals are good. Most rust occurs near the base of the doors and along base of wings.

If I was selling mine, I could provide documentation including when bushes, suspension, springs, hoses etc...were changed.

It very much depends on the owner and how much they have cared for the vehicle. It's also very much an indication on how well maintained it might have been.

Mines done 158k and still pulls strong! Had alot replaced but that's down to how the car was driven. As jimgrim77 said above, check it all and report back!

Iv said it before and ill say it again lol if its made it to 146k then it has to of been maintained well, i suggest if all the history adds up and you like it then the millage isnt an issue till you sell on, but thats why you get it abit cheaper. Good luck dude.

All depends on how well it has been maintained. I had a 54 reg Golf with 122k miles on it and that was in better condition in others that I went to view with less than 80k on them!

My s3 has done 142k. Runs sweet.
More receipts that seller has the better imo.

I would happily but a 1.8t wither over 150k assuming it had been serviced well and drove ok. If it has made it that far it is a good one, mine is just turning 200k and it is better than the majority under half its mileage.

I've been and had a look, it's not bad. The paint work is abit flat and the DIS is not 100%, can you get them repaired? It needs a service as well.

Also it might need some tyres, I assume that you have to put them on in pairs like a TT??

Also what do you think a Vreg with 147K is worth

Any reason your going for the quattro dude? And a 99plate tqs with leathers should be around the 2k mark. And if the one side is worn more than the other that would suggest a problem.

The tyres are not worn side to side just front to back, as for why it's local to me and I thought it would be a good fun run around.

Ok dude, yeh they are good fun, never owned a quattro myself i would of thought the fwd is adequate and quite competant, not to metion its easier to mod as the tqs owners have problems with getting down pipes and turbo intake pipes to fit. Also cheaper to run than the tqs, not saying not to get a tqs tho lol.

The DP is a bit of a pita, but the tip is no problem at all as its got a k03 or k03s turbo
