This has been well overdue but I've finally put down a deposit on my 3rd A3; a 2007 2.0TFSI DSG S Line Special Edition.

I started off with my first A3 3 years ago with a 2004 1.9TDI Sport - such a fantastic car and engine. When I moved in with the Mr's I had to let go of my beloved A3 and I replaced it with a '57 Corsa 1.2 SXI, mainly for the cheaper running costs - I was only 19 at the time and the insurance was fairly high on the A3.

Needless to say I couldn't handle the transition of going from an A3 to a Corsa and it didn't take me long to completely regret my decision. I ended up putting the Corsa up for sale after only 2 weeks of ownership which resulted in the quickest £1,250 I've ever lost. It wasn't all bad though as I managed to get enough from the sale of the Corsa to buy my way back into the A3 fold with a 2004 1.6FSI Sport with 80,000 miles - a decision I've never looked back on. I'm now 2 years on with my 2nd A3 and with it closing in on 116,000 miles, its time for us to part ways.

As much as I've loved my A3's I've always been fairly resentful of my engine choices, choices that were made purely as they were the affordable option. The 1.9TDI provided me with great torque and even felt quick, and providing me with 55mpg it was certainly a pleasure to own but with a 0-60 of 11s, it just wasn't quick enough for my liking. The choice for the 1.6 FSI again was made purely because it was the only affordable option and it was certainly a good compromise providing me with 40mpg and the feel of a petrol, but like the derv, a 0-60 of 10.4 has always left me slightly disheartened.

That has been my A3 journey so far, and here I am today.

---------

I'd like to give a big thanks to Ads for the numerous chats that we've had about the 2.0T engine and the DSG box, an all round sound guy and a great help in helping me decide exactly what spec A3 I wanted..

Being a busy time of the year I should be able to collect her in the first week of the new year.

Nice motor jonny:salute:

You won't be disappointed with the 2.0T. Other than one new coil pack mine hasn't put a foot wrong in 12 months of ownership. The engine is so smooth and flexible and when you want it to, it can return a decent mpg. Enjoy!

Well pleased for you mate, she looks sweet!
Good on you fella, you deserve it.
Also may I take this opportunity to thank you for all your help and advice over this past year. Thankyou.

Well done fella and we are sure to meet soon.

Nice one Jonny! You're gonna love the engine/gearbox. The 2.0T is the next best thing to an S3 in the 8P range. And with a remap.... :eyebrows:

Enjoy mate!

Nice buy Jonny, You will love the 2.0T with the DSG box! look forward to seeing the planned mods

Nice choice mate, I bet it's quite the upgrade from your previous car!

Definitely get some MY11 rear lights on that :o.k:

That was my only real concern tbh but I've spoken to a few people with the 2.0T A3 and the GTi and they have all said the same.

Cheers mate, we'll certainly meet up soon! Not a problem at all, always a pleasure!

I certainly hope so mate. In my research I found that the engine had been voted 'Engine of The Year' from 2005 - 2008 and the DSG gearbox voted/awarded second best twin-clutch gearbox behind Ferrari -- not a bad combination!

Well done buddy! Want to see some modding soon:p.
Cheers Matt. I'll certainly be getting my fingers dirty when the ready's become available ;)

Sweet Car Jonny, Let the mods commence. Enjoy..!! I prefer MY09 lights with Akoya Silver too.

Congrats mate, nice colour too :icon_thumright:

You been saying for a while you wanted a new one! FBMFSW? Is it Akoya? Looks lovely, good lad.
I have mate, its been a long time coming!

I'll certainly be looking into the FBMFSW mate, would love a really thick one - TTRS/RS3 style. Yeah, Akoya Silver.

Looking forward to see your car in flesh Johnny! Hopefully we can meet up at some Audi spot next year

Same as yours Matt! I'm sure we'll see each other in 2012 at some point.

Good on u mate......Nice car to start off with .....:icon_thumright:

Congrats Jboo. Nice motor you got there, and you will definitively not be disappointed with the 2.0tfsi. Excellent engine if i say so myself. lol

Cheers. I notice that you've got the S Line Special Edition as well; do you know what makes the S Line Special Edition different from just the S Line? I can't seem to find anything online and the Parkers equipment list isn't very helpful either.

I believe they came with full leather seats as standard with special edition. not sure about the rest, maybe auto wipers/lights, just guessing here really. lol

Nice choice. Result,
Defo remap especially with DSG and no clutch worries.
Add,FBMFSW and RNSE, job done.
Enjoy.

A week before I collect my new car my current A3 develops a blow in the exhaust. Thought it would be an cheap fix, but of course its not. Developed a hole in the pre-cat flexi pipe. Unfortunately though, you can't buy the flexi pipe on its own, so I'm forced to spend ~£200 to buy a pre-cat with flexi pipe, even though I don't need the cat.

Wouldn't have bothered me if it was a standard repair, but since the car is being px'd in less than a week its a slight annoyance. Oh well, I'm sure I wont be as bitter when I'm in the new A3!

Picked up the car from Grimsby today after a nice 2 hour journey to part ways with my 1.6. She's been a solid car over the 2 years of ownership and a pleasure to own.

The drive home was an absolute pleasure and was a completely effortless drive. No longer do I have to change down a gear to overtake or even think about if I have enough power or time to perform the overtake as the 2.0T packs more than enough power.

Very, very impressed with the car on the drive home, couldn't be happier!

Just for now.... haha wait couple of weeks and you will start craving for more power:D albeit its natural and it comes around like will to have a different girlfriend every single weekend so you shouldnt be worrying much just let the tuning bug bite ya:].

You did mate, such a blessing coming from a 1.6! I just hope the fuel economy isnt tooo bad, but thats not the reason why I bought a 2.0T ;)

When I stepped up from my 2.0 to the 2.0T it felt like a massive difference, so from your 1.6 to the 2.0T must feel MAHOOOOSIVE!
So come on, come clean.... how many people you raced from the lights so far?

And who cares about the amount of fuel it uses. There's always plenty more fuel in petrol station pumps to fill it back up. ;)
