I was (or still am) bored and started looking through ETKA's folder and noticed there is alot of photos of products (Almost 8000).
Does any one know why they are there or what they are used for with in ETKA?

I don't think I've ever accessed them while using it.

Surely these are the images the come when when you look at items in ETKA. The earlier ones tend to be line drawing (for the A3 for example) but the later ones are more like photographs (for the A1).

I've had a look at a couple but only ever see line drawings.

Yes they are still line drawings in ETKA. The A3 ones are just the lines but the A1 ones are coloured-in to give a slightly better view of the parts. ELSAWIN has some illustrations that look more like photos but I think even these are drawings taken from photographs.

ETKA is a parts catalogue to be used by Audi dealer staff rather than a picture book in the same way as ELSAWIN is a workshop manual to be used by trained Audi technicians. They are not designed to be used by the general public.

I understand that but can't see why.
Its been really useful to me and helped me help many people with part numbers and idea of prices.

Vuze, its a wonderful thing, will be sorting my ETKA out this week

Just had a look at the A1 in a bit more details and you're right.
It is coloured in 3dCAD style drawings over the normal lines one.
But I'm referring to actual photos of products with in ETKA installation directory.

Interestingly I have just updated my copy of ETKA with updates 886-889 and all the illustrations for the A3 are now the coloured line drawing type rather than just the plain line drawings.

Which particular directory are you referring to about the photos.

Oo interesting I'll have to get mine updated! My images of the A1 are in 3D which looks very smart!

They also seem to added the ability to have a number of the basic pages shown in the left hand pane under the menu which can make it quicker to find the pages that you are looking for. To get it to work you have to click the button in the top right of the coloured line of the left-hand pane.

They have also updated the prices to revision 479 dated 16 December 2011

Depending on your install directory its
\ETKA\DATA\SK\vseiten_pics
\ETKA\DATA\VA\Tnrpics

The 3D drawings are very good and does make it alot easier to use.

I've just had a look and I must admit I have never seen them before. The \sk\vseiten_pics directory is obviously related to Skoda which I do not have loaded but the \VA\Trnpics has some VW and some Audi. Perhaps one day they will be used to illustrate individual parts in some way.

I think I've cracked it...
Go to ETKA and select the A1 2012 - Accessories - Illustration 060-35 - this shows the transfers that can be applied to an A1 - double click anyone of the (1) items in the listing panel - this takes you to the Order Form - in Additional information at the bottom of the screen - click the second icon from the right (camera) - and low and behold a picture comes up which can be enlarged to full screen.

Not all items have this camera icon in additional information, but when it is present click on it and it brings up one of the pictures.

Ah, I was aware of the Camera button as it appears on a few of the Cruise Control stalks but so far thats the only part that has an image, there do seem to be a fair few images in that folder mind!

Most of the images seem to relate to VW models although there are quiet a few for the A1. The are also some showing the various Audi radios and some of the accessories available from Audi.
