Hi all, thought it was about time I treated the old girl to some new goodies to freshen things up a bit.

These little LED treats popped through the post today:

LEDS2.jpg

18 SMD H7

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

LEDS3.jpg

5 SMD Ultra White 501 Side Lights

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Also got the RED smd strips for the footwells but dont have the bits needed to do that today and have already fitted silver indicator bulbs to get rid of the fried egg look.

...should be able to do the H7 fogs with ease but the 501's are a real pain and not looking forward to grappling with the wires in the cold.
Expect me to be back asking for help a while later... :sos:

Will update the post with before and after pics when I get it all done.

Hope they work.

Cheers, the indicator bulbs were way too easy to remove, once the battery cover is off I could easily get in there and twist the bulb holder. Having small hands also helps.

Right then, job done.

The sidelights needed a firm tug and they were out with ease, last time round I was twsiting the damn thing and gave up in the end.

One of them looked like it had a blown a led but after playing around with the holder it manged to stay lit once in.

The H7 fogs were easy enough as well just lining them up right when the bulbs were in took a bit more time.

So here are the results of this cheap, quick and easy upgrade, I just hope they last...

Looks good to me but i think I have to change the xenon bulb now as well, what do you guys think?

Will get some night shots later on.

How did you get your hands in there to replace the sidelights, i can't even get the back plate off the headlamp?

There may be a build up of dirt and grease but they should clip straight off. Like I said earlier small hand helps get into the tightest of places, lol.

On the passenger side I previously moved the battery to the left a touch and since then its easy to get in there and to reach the indicator bulb as well.

Night Shots... Me likey.

good to see looks nice mate. I have just changed my interior/boot lights and number plate/sidelights to led and am now waiting for led h7's for fog and main beam.

cheers jaz

Anyone else fitted LED replacements to the H11 fog lights?

I am keen to see the light spread on the ground compared to the usual filament bulbs.

Great job!

I've never seen h7 LEDs before and Am gutted having spent time and money recently upgrading and installing all bulbs on the vehicle.

I've never trusted eBay led bulbs, can you recommend one?

Thanks in advance

What advantages of LEDs are there over a HID kit for the fogs?

I know how you feel mate, last month I spent £30 on two pair of OSRAM Nightbreaker+ for main beams and fogs... (if anyone wants them for a good price pm me) They do a good job but not very eye catching if you know what I mean. So I decided to risk some cheap-as-chips led's off ebay and tbh I'm pleasantly surprised.

I posted links below the pics in my first post to the items I got and have since noticed the seller has no H7 led's left... The 501's were cheap at £3.99 compared to others sellers selling the same for £7-10... Time will tell how long they last.

Cant wait for mine to come now so i can fit them.

Nar, i bought some last week before you posted this thread, i bought them from hong kong though so itll more than likely be next week when i geg them haha.

cool, get some pics up when they arrive.

Can you actually see further with LED fogs? As they're LED's i always thought they wouldn't shoot the light that far?

I was always under the impression that yellow lighting was better for fog than white lighting?

Is this the case?

Either way the car looks good dude :)

Right...i've decided that my bumper will have to come off again to install yet another set of H7 bulbs, albeit LED ones this time to match my sidelights...which are whiter than white and look ace.

It came as a real surprise this post as it's only been 2 weeks since i was dealing with the largest automotive LED shop in the UK who categorically told me that H7 LED were not available before forking out £40 on ultra white blue tinted standard H7 bulbs which still look pee-stain yellow.

Does anyone have a decent H7 LED Source though as i don't want them arriving broken or failing after 6 days etc...? Like Maz has said...his seller has run out disappointingly and ebay sources are notoriously bad for lights.

To be fair Troopa, with the fogs on there is less light spread on the road than before. This was noticeable as soon as I switched them on but they look better and that's what I wanted.

Thanks man, your probably right Nilz, I'm no expert when it comes to the amount of light Led's emit but having owned the car for nearly seven years I was getting bored of the yellow and fancied a change.

How about a set of these bad boys lol how many
2X H7 12V 102 SMD LED Head Light Bulb Lamp White 4800K | eBay

I had some h7 LEDs, gave them to Mark and they looked pretty good! But they look good Maz, think i'll have to get my **** in gear and get some!

I've already got a hid kit fitted and led sidelights so the fog lights could be a good edition me thinks :)

Are they easy to change?

Also does anyone know what the law is when it comes to using them as DRL’s (using vagcom) ?

Spotlights yes, simply pull off the two lower grill panel that surround them and unscrew the spotlight fittings.

However, the screw heads might have corroded over the years and if they are anything like mine, it might be a bumper off job to get in behind.

Give it a try and see.

did fitting these to your foglights throw up any errors of a blown bulb or are they just a straight fit ?

looks great done my sidelights already but fogs next on list

cheers, I can confirm no errors and they are a straight fit.

I dont think the Fogs bring up a fault on our cars to be honest guys.

just spotted this thread and am happy as i oredered a set of H7 LED`s from Ebay a few days ago. Mine have 68 leds on them so will have to see how they fair.

this is what i ordered eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace as for £4 all in for the pair i thought i couldnt go wrong really. Just gotta wait a few weeks for the to arrive.

Oh and on a side note i took my foglights out a couple of weeks ago and my screws were rusted solid too but i managed to get my dremmel in the hole and cut the screw off to remove them and them replaced the screw with a non rusty version. So didnt have to remove the bumper. I also managed to clear out the small pile of old leaves etc covering up my intercoolers.

Just ordered the LED sidelights so will see how they fair once they're in! Need to do the fog ones at some stage too.. Is it all a pretty simple job guys?

Sidelights are easy enough just can be a PITA to get the old ones out as they are wedged in pretty tight. Thry are only a push fitting so just remove the headlight covers and then reach in and pull on the wires for the sidelight bulb holder and with a bit of even pressure they should pop out. They dont feel like they will but once they are out of the headlight just remove the old bulb replace with LED version. just make sure they are working before you put them back into the headlight.

Fogs are a little more labour intensive as you need to remove the actual lights from the car to fit them. So pop off grills around lights and them remove the 2 screws holding it in place (see above posts as these can be rusted up badly) remove and then you can swap over the bulbs.

Still waiting on my hong kong specials to turn up haha.

ive had led side lights in my boot for about a month now. cant get my hands in to get the old ones out :(

any midgets out there??

Either you have mahoosive hands or your doing something wrong, to remove the old ones just pull on the wires arttached to the connector until it comes out of the headlight and then just swap the bulbs. They are stuck in tight but they do eventually come out.

My hong kong specials showed up today for my foglights.

They look indentical to the ones Maz pictured in the first post so i think mine are 18 Led`s too but for £4 inc P+P for 2 bulbs as long as they work i dont really care how many Led`s they have.

So as i knew it wouldnt take more than 20 mins to replace them i gave it a whirl and took a couple of pics as i did :

So this is the car with the Led sidelamps on i did previoulsy and one of the new Led fogs installed (on the left) and the original bulb (on the right)
