Hi everyone, just bought a 2001 S3 AMK. What are your preferences when it comes to a stage 2 revo or AMD map? any advice would be much appreciated.

Revo stage 2 is more tweakable... seen some 'issues' with early AMD maps but can't comment on what they are like now tbh....

Revo have a deal on atm... 10% off and free SPS switch

thanks tuffty, i thought revo might be the preffered option, hopefully that offer will be on for a while as i need to collect the other bits and pieces. Am i right in thinking that with a decent 3inch downpipe and sports cat with a badger 5 tip and filter pannel be suitible mods for a decent stage 2 setup?

Vince just had and AMD map on his 1.8 t A3!
it goes really well we were both quite surprised at the outcome
Pulls very well

I had AMD on my 1.8tqs and i did really like it. Although i get the impression revo is preffered for the s3. westy what mods did you have on yours to get roughly 280bhp?

All the work I've done is in my progress thread. My car was dyno'd earlier this year at 270bhp at 21psi but had a weak fuel pump and a front mount intercooler that was too small. My friends S3 made 280 on the same rollers with same mods as me so I know mine will make that now.

I'm getting it re-dyno'd in January and I'm hoping for 280+ this time.

I've basically got a brand new K04 turbo, front mount intercooler, 3" down pipe and de-cat, badger 5 intake pipe, jetex cone filter, all silicone hoses.

Got a few more bits going on next year as I try to see I the k04 can actually reach 300bhp.

im getting the 3 inch dowpipe & sports cat, filter and then probably revo. i didnt want to change the intercooler really as it is expensive for a decent set up :( would the standard intercoolers not be up for 280bhp/not maintain it?

intercoolers with all hoses and pipes can be done for very close to 200 of your hard earned pounds. its the fitting thats a ***** of a job.
an ebay toyosports core is popular on here. again see westys thread for that.

standard coolers are weak for stage 1 setup, never mind the extra heat from stage 2. you'l find power disappearing fast

hi mate ive just seen your thread and thought il let you know jabbasport remaps are amazing. they specialise in 1.8t. from my experience with my 1.8t s3 i had a powerloss problem.. i went to a few different tuning companies but no change. when i went to jabba... i left with a big smile on my face!!!

cool thanks for the help guys. does the toyosport intercooler fit without being visible?

Cool thanks. Westy what other mods do you plan on doing to reach 300bhp? i asume you mean on a stock ko4!?

Yep 300bhp on a K04 (if it's possible.

I've just purchased a WMI kit and I also recently bought a large port cylinder head and an exhaust manifold. I'm going to install some forged rods when I fit the new head in April then I just need some larger fuel injectors and a custom mapping to make use of all the mods.

then when you realise it's not enough, you'll buy a hybrid and we can have an A3/S3 show-down with identical engines :p

Awesome, good luck to you. I will be interested to see the outcome.

I am worried that will be the case. I would have bought a hybrid/big turbo if I didn't get a brand new K04 fitted in June.

I also think that there are a lot of people interested to see what a k04 can produce.

my worry would be reliability more than final output, having been in some epicly quick LCR's on stock turbo'd the ko4 as standard produces enough power for my needs, but for the way I'll be thrashing it, I just don't see it lasting due to the heat it'd develop, so the answer for me is to run a hybrid turbo in a much lower state of tune to get probably the same final result you'll end up with without the stress.

Anyway, I digress! Sorry for the thread hijack!

what would happen if the S3 got the stage 2 revo without a fmic? (dpipe, dv,...installed)

I think this is the main question of the op...

I think this is the main question of the op...

The car would run too hot due to the added boost and not having a big FMIC. This will stop the car running anywhere near it potential as the ECU will pull ignition timing. The exhaust gas temps would be through the roof also making the car under perform.

Is their any other options on the intercooler front other than the gold dust forge item that doesent require any modification to the front bumper?

There's a big thread in the stickies mate. 3 or 4 different FMIC setups in there. Also if you read through my progress thread (w3sty's Progress Thread) you'll see the 3 different setups i've tried.
