Never seen anything about these functions on a B5. I'd imagine the later cars that do it have Canbus for signalling.
While i can see the usefulness of an autodimming mirror (the occurrence of glare from vehicles behind tends to be a random event that comes and goes thru a journey), i'm not sure i see the point of automatic lights or wipers and imo its the start of a slippery slope that we're already heading down at high speed.
Maybe i'm just a bit weird, but my personal view is the more stuff you do "automatically" for the driver, the less attention the driver ends up paying to whats actually going on. Driving standards are falling all the time, and my view is that all these aids simply make it possible for standards to drop further.
With adaptive cruise and various lane assist technologies we've got cars on the market now that you could more or less get into the middle lane of a motorway set the cruise at 80mph then shut your eyes for half an hour and not die. Ofcourse the manufacturers tout these features as useful safety additions, but with the driving sitting there thinking the cars going to do everything for him, attention levels invariably fall, and you've now got someone hurtling down the M6 at 80mph thats paying next to no attention to whats actually happening around them. ****** scary!
