I was going to keep this quiet but I can't be assed and there is a lack of modifying threads with in the B5 section.
Apart from me and Foxy (even he's gone quiet), there is nothing. So I'm here to pad it out a bit. :)

I had one of theses one my BMW, Wheels 'n Wires: BMW Rear Blind, I really liked it and it helpped in the dark nights with bright lights behind me. I started thinking about adding one to the Audi but wanted a electric one. I noticed one going cheap on ebay I bought it to give it ago. Never thought it would fit, not even close enough for me to carry on but it does and I am.

This is how far I got so far, bearing in mind this is my first day doing it.

Frist, strip the boot hatch and place blind on door to test for width, possible mounting points and looks.
Its a good width but there is a bit of a gap.

Thats ok, I can work that out later. Next it to extend it and see how far up it goes and if the top section will fit since the window is sort of tapered.
IMAG0714.jpg

It does not extend all the way but thats ok. I can either leave it as it or cut the arms down to the correct length. I'll sort this out later.

Not to bad, just need to remove the old mounting brackets and push it back about 2inchs so its hidden under the black parts of the glass and I'm able to fit the trim back on.

There is a bit of a gap round the sides and the top. This is cause there is no trim. with the trim on it helps remove alot of this gap, there is still some but its acceptable.

I've removed the old mounting brackets (you can see them in the final pic), at the weekend or even friday, I'll be making some holes in the inner skin of the boot to try and move the blind closer to the boot, remove the gap and get it covered by the trim. I also need to work out how I'm going to power it up and down. I need a button and somewhere to put it.
I know the A8 (i think its the A8) has a electric reblind and the button from that was the same as a pre-facelift B5. Is there or was there any other Audis that had a electric rear blind that uses the same buttons as facelift B5s?

If not I might have found a use for that stupid little storage compartment near the cig lighter.

Apart from me and Foxy (even he's gone quiet)

Excuse me sir, can i be pardoned???(currently jobless!!!) lol!:icon_thumright:

(Im in planning of my next phase, bodywork mostly done it will be more technical now!)

Good stuff Scott, nice mod to help with your dogging....i mean dog walking evenings!!!!!:sex:

Best looking on Ebay.de as im sure there was some on there, more than UK for some reason!

I understand the lack of job, so i'll let you off a little bit but you do still have a ICE install that you could be completing.
Got loads of time now to finish off all them little jobs. :)

Why does everyone assume I go dogging in this car? lol
I keep telling them the marks on the ceiling and out side are from fishing trips.

The ICE is all in now mate, just a bit of tuning and trimming required but need to buy material etc. Check the build thread. Im planning to have some interior parts retrimmed for the new seat install so may just have it all done proffesional at the same time.

Bit of a up date and more pics and a video.

In short, its in. fitted and working. well, its working if you connect a 12v battery to the blind. I've not wired it in yet.
Need to sort out the controls for it, so it don't keep wanting to up or down.

It stuck away from the glass to far and caused issue.
So it took a dremel to my boot lid and cut some holes out of inner skin to sink the blind closer to the glass.

Its not flush cause the boot is curved so I had to settle for as close as possible.

I used the old brackets from the blind to make a new one which I bolted to the old rear wiper mounts, I then made another bracket that went from the motor to boot skin and bolted that down. With just theses two brackets it angled correctly and very solid. if even with my shaking it and trying to move it, it goes no where.

Next I cut the corners off the top of the blind to help it fit in to the window better and stop the pointed edges marking the boot trim. This also helped it go further up and fit better.

Then came the trickier part. Fitting the rear trim.
I gave up. I'm going to give it to this guy my mate knows and get him to do it. cheating I know but Its something I know I can't do.
I'll give him a ring on monday and see what he says. I did do a bit of a bodge on the trim to make it look better than it all being exposed.
IMAG0726.jpg

Thats it for now. Next on the list is to run the cables to the front of the car, get a switch and some how work out how to stop the blind when it hits the stop or bottom.
Here is a link to a post about fitting a rear blind in a B6.AudiWorld Tech Articles. I'm thinking of ordering that button but not 100% sure on the wiring yet.
If any one has any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

Here is a video.

Not much happening this at the moment.
Its my own fault really.
I've lost a bit of interest cause I can't do much untill the trim is done.
A friend of mine makes custom interior and installs. I've had a chat to him and he's willing to retrim my boot lid for me. I just need to get my *** in gear and give him the car for two days.

I have bought a blind switch from Stoke Audi.
IMAG0753.jpg

The trickyer part is trying to fidn a control box for the blind.
Since the switch a momentary switch (I think thats right) I need to find the correct box to go with it.
I've had a bit a search today and came across the Omega rear blind relay and switch.
After a bit of searching it looks like they use a momentary switch as well, which means their relay will work.
I found one on ebay for £10 and bought it. Its worth a punt for that price.

At the moment i'm waiting for that to turn up, then I can do a test with all the bits, if it works i'll route all the cables correctly and get the electronics working and i'll find time to be with out my car for two days.

Bit of a update,

I've been looking for a control unit and stumbled on the Omega rear blind control unit.
2 cables out and 3 cables in.
1 live, 1 earth, 1 switch and 2 to the blind.

I did a test fit today to make sure the relay works and stops when the blind hits top and bottom.
Here is a video (I hope).

I had to do some swapping around of the plugs to get the blind plug in to fit. Cause its a left switch and left is where my rear fogs are. I moved my rear fogs to the middle, using the front fog switch and put the blind to the left.
IMAG0818.jpg

There is a couple of issues with this switch.
1, Its the wrong colour.
2, Its a different angle to the B5 switches.
IMAG0819.jpg

I might have to rethink the button.
If there is one that fits on the right hand side of them 3, possible FUNK or something. I'll go for that one.
I'll spend this weekend routing the cables and wiring it in correctly.

nice job mate, thought about just putting in all 3 newer style buttons?

Ahh ok.

Are you able to get any switch to work? ie can you just get another fog switch for your car and use that?
any momentary (I think that's right) will work. But I'd rather not use a fog light switch. If if I can get another blind switch that's correct that wojld be ace.

How about getting another fog switch then carefully remove the face from the blind switch and put it on the fog one, then it would atleast sit on the same angle

I did think of that and I stripped all switches down to see if there is some way I can swap them over.
But the B6 face is deeper, looks like it should fit but its the shape and angle of the switch face it self not the switch.

What you see in the image above it the B6 switch face and front half of the switch with the front fog light back.
The front fog light is the rear fog light switch back and the front of the front fog.
So I can the switches in with out having to rewire to much at this stage.

I need to sit down and go through the different switches that are available for the B5.

Is there not a switch for the A6 (c5) that would fit?

Possible.
I need to get on ETKA and take a look but I don't have a working copy at the moment.

Its wired in and working which is nice.
The button is a pain but something I can take my time over and find the correct one. If you or any one happen to find one or see one on their travels, please let me know.

Have a look on vagcat, the prices are probably out but at least you can get a part no

That's looking good scott! Is there no way you can shorten the arms to make them vertical when it's fully up?

If it still up?
I've not been able to get on for a while.
I'll try again.

I can cut them down but they look like they are clued and clamped on.
I don't want to attempt to take them off, mangle them and cant' get them back on. So i'll leave them for now. :)

Scott, I finally got ETKA working. I thought i'd check out a switch part no. for you. From a 2002 A6, blind switch is:

4B0 959 903 C

Dunno if that's any good, but I was needing to get my head round how to use it and this was a good thing to try haha!

And fair enough about the arms. I like the blind though, job well done!

I was going to ask you about that, Welldone mate.

Thanks mate.
I need to find a A6 and see what their switches are like.

Could you check out and see what other switches are for the B5 but mainly the ones thats for the right hand slot?

EDIT:=- I just thought, is that switch pre-facelift?

That switch part number relates to this shape/style dash

So should be good for the A4

Yeah it will.
The only thing you will see is the black top of the blind.
That's the plan any way.

Ahh, cool. I'll take a look for that switch.

Thanks lads.
