I have a A4 Avant 2.0tdi and over the last week i have noticed a massive loss of MPG
Town driving i am only getting mid 20mpg and on a 60mph 40 mile run i only managed around 37mpg !
Anyone any ideas as to what might have happened ???????????

Possibly because of the drop in temperature which results in a richer fuel mixture while the car is cold.

A work colleagued experienced similar symptoms on his 2006 model.
This was corrected when Audi replaced his injectors.

It does make a heck of a difference as it does take a while for your car to get up to temperature and hoofing it while still cold compounds the issue. Watch what it's like when/if we get a warm day or reset the mpg once up to temperature.

Check for boost leaks

Cover up your radiator using cardboard or something similar like all the black cabs do! It'll keep your car warmer in this weather and you'll benefit from slightly better mpg.

Dont use your heating to warm up the car until at least the coolant needle is bang in the middle otherwise your just stealing all the engine heat for yourself and thus the engine doesn't burn efficiently!

Maybe run some Forte Advanced Diesel treatment through the tank to see if it helps. Google it including uk mkivs and read the thread on the ukmkiv forum. The boys seem to like it!
