Just wondering if any knows of a HID kit that doesnt EFF the wiper motor up :) Hate halogen bulbs after my golf mark 4 having HIDS :(

Thanks Alot

Grant :)

Xenons are your only bet. Loads of threads on how they blow the wiper motor. It's not worth the risk!!!

Don't do it, you'll have to spend more money putting the car right after you've blown the motor, HIDs are ****e anyway.

I wish more manufacturers would fit an "anti HID" device like Audi. I'm sick of being blinded by the twats who fit them.

I agree! They are always so blinding! I full beam them!

Agree actually. My mate had HIDs in his car and they were ok jus the taxis around me all seem to have them pointing to the sky!

Maybe time to post this:

Audi A38P - Well-Done

Been using them for a year now, garunteed not to blow wiper motor. when your MOT is due pop them out and replace with halagens. simple

maybe we need a sticky saying fitting anything apart from oem will no longer pass an MOT as of next year ;-)

For those wanting Xenon white lights but dont want to spend ££££ on a legal OEM retrofit, there are some really good (and legal) White bulbs now available.

Plenty of us have them and are more than happy.

wez, where did you get your black grill from mate? Really need one for mine!!

I have bought over 50quids worth of "white" blubs (which I have been told most will become illeagal with new MOT law) and just don't seem to have the same effect to me :( I have found a site that says they sell the right ones with the relay loom you need to make them not blow up but they do cost 180quid a set (2) so its quite expensive for something that will fail MOT and apparently will become an easy pull for cops and a nice 3points and £60 fine :S

Here is the site: (they ask to phone them before you buy)
H7 55w Xenon HID Headlight Conversion Kit for Can-Bus: HIDS 4U

I think overal you shouldnt get HID's for the normal Halogen headlights as they dispence the light wrong causing people to be blind or etc so if you got the offical HID/Xenon headlights and what the powerful HID look then get the projector lights etc and should be good to go :)

Heres it fitted to my a3 3 years no issues:-

To further a note on glare and HID kits that concerns some folk:-

We use H7R bulbs when fitted correctly these do help stop alot of the glare people on this thread are refering to.

Its common place by alot of members it seems to think that HIDS have to be used with glass oliptical projector lenses (like the a3 with facctory HID uses for instance) but in fact many of the earlier mercedes and lexus vehicles ran whats known as a d2r bulbs again without elipical projector glass eye lenses.

Note the blackout strip on the bulb to cut upwards glare:-

D2R - as used on some early mercedes bmw and lexus vehicles which use HID from factory without the glass eye eliptical projector lenses

Heres a comparion of d2s and d2r you can see the difference a s3 uses d2s for instance as it has eliptical projectorlenses

The difference between D2R and D2S
bulbs is the ceramic paint located on the
quartz capsule of D2R bulbs. The
ceramic paint makes the D2R bulb ideal
for applications that use reflection
aiming instead of projection through a
lens to illuminate the road.

Finally the codition of the healmap itself can be a key factor in glare a dirty lense will scatter light everywhere more so on non projetor lenses but even on oem projector ones too. Theis is why they MOT is supposed to stipulate HID is used on cars with headmap wash only (note alot of the japan made cars with Factor HID dont though especially imports) I guess they dont have much dirt on the roads over threre but at the end of the day we all know headlmap wash is neither as use as an ornament in actually cleaning the healamp itself in any case. :)

For those of you who wants a high quality kit thats does work and doesnt damage the wiper motor and that has minimal glare.

All well and good Andi but still won't pass the MOT after January 1st without washers and self-levelling !

Depends where you take your car down to m8 and how strict they are on stuff like this. (but i guess thats individual choice)

I have an road / track evo 6 running big bhp obviously is decatted and its just the same there many a member on here running round in a3`s and s3`s which are decatted and had thre dpf removed again strictly its a mot failure but if you go to the right garages theyre really not that bothered of dvla bureaucracy of stuff like this.

As for the earlier mercedes and lexus that was produced from factory with HID without and projectors or headlamp wash cant see them banning them off the road another vehicle which springs to mind is the mitsubishi evo 78 and 8 even the fq uk versions they have xenon HID from they have projectors but no headlamp wash or leveling. I really bet theres loads of factory produced cars out there that i fact dont meet the requirements which kinda puts the news rules in jeopardy.

If I knew my tester was deliberately passing things he shouldnt he could expect his P45. There are items that are down to the testers discression but this would be down to if it was a fail or just an advisory on items that are worn. If something is physically missing then its a fail, end of story. If the car is pulled over having left the test station, all it takes is a couple of missed items & both the tester & the station gets sanctions that could easily result in the station being shut down. Not worth in IMHO.

I hear what you say Andi and you're right, it depends on whether people are bothered about breaking the law or concerned about the safety of other motorists.

As far as bureaucracy is concerned I suppose it could also be classed as progress. Don't forget that at one time seat belts were not required in cars but heightened safety concerns and modernisation led to their mandatory inclusion in newer vehicles. Old cars that were not designed for them are not required to have them.

I think the bottom line is that these latest rules are designed to reduce, and eventually eliminate the stupid idiots that run around blinding other people with very bright incorrectly adjusted lights (both HID and 100w halogens) and who don't give a monkeys about anybody else's safety.

If modifications are done correctly and legally then there will be no problems but taking shortcuts could lead to accidents and that is, no doubt, the reason for the new legislation. Whether it should be classed as 'bureacracy' is debatable in my opinion.

i would would be more concerned aboutr the drivers that run around with 7000k-12000k HIDs as they look ****e.
i all for HIDs any day as long as it is done correctly with proper 6000k and below bulbs.

Yea the colour is a good point what ive done is run a 5000k bulb at 45 watt which basically gives it that clean white colour with the slightist hint of blue, Many of the aftermarket stuff is 6000k + which is getting just too blue in my opinion.

Correct colour temp is 4150. The best aftermarket kits are 4300k.

Khufu, as for your testers getting you in trouble for passing stuff they shouldn't because it isn't on the car, who is to say that the car hasn't been changed in the interim?

I am sure there are plenty people who put cats on to pass emissions then remove them once the mot certificate is in their hands.

With these kits, it's very easy to put standard bulbs in for an MOT and then revert to the aftermarket HIDs after you've passed. To those who are concerned, even if you have no MOT certificate you don't get points, you get a maximum of a £1000 fine. I am not advocating not getting your MOT done. I always have and always will, and my car is always in a more than legally roadworthy state, I am just pointing out the flaws in the system.

:wtf: - you're not bothered about other road users then ? No MOT = no insurance = illegal = we pay. Fiddle the MOT and cause an accident and someone might die !

Sorry but it's guys like you that give us all a bad name. Khufu is right but it's always the case that the MOT doesn't guarantee the car is roadworthy for 12 months and if the cops pull you it's your problem.

Don't think you should be suggesting that 'ways around the MOT' is acceptable.

Sorry

Have to say those f***ers with HIDs do my head in (Sorry if someone got offened but its your choice)! Get some proper OEM lights people no wanna be chavy blue god knows what fitted in a head lamps. Really got frustrated few times recently when some idiot passed over leaving me blind for a few good moments.... This is really unfair and dangerous! HIDs should be banned for life.

Only one of my front wipers has stopped moving :s. will this just be the nut loose on wiper arm anyone think? Or is there two separate motors for each side? Nothing to do
With HID's just didn't want to make a new thread

Wipers are controlled of the same one unit.

Unless the mechanism has come away, but that would be a 1st for sure on my ears, just lift the plenum cover with a torch & have a nosey, should be obvious if your nut is tight as such.

Hi, question- i have an 2008 a3, if i was to buy the oem xenon headlights- meaning the whole unit how hard would it be to fit in & would i need vag-com to change codes or what not?

You can buy adapter kits, but would need coding in an ideal world, but that doesnt get round the law to cometh in Jan mate, levelling systems & headlight ashers will be an mot test now, of which both are required for the xenon headlights, now all these can be fitted of course, but requires a new bumper if you dont have washers fitted already, if you ever want to venture into this, give me a shout as I do these installs all the time, supply/fit, paint the lot if close enough, along with hire care if need be.

Noticed the actual xenon part with ballast and the lot aint that bad terms of price but altogether with the levelling and bumper etc how much would it cost around?.. Thing is i graduate uni in a year & ive been promised a new shape S3 - really wanna do loads with the SE a3 ive got seen some crazy mods on here! but its not worth the dollar if im getting a new one soonish?
