Nice one Kev! I like the intake manifold, looks a bit like an abd item, did you do it yourself?

yeah i used a dremil type thing we have at work its actually called a rolloc its like a rubber buffer thing which worked really well to flatten out the pimperly effect from the casting then i used some fine wet and dry to remove the swirl markings of the rolloc then just used a small polishing wheel i have with some metal polish, its not a perfect mirror finish but its shiney and still looks like an engine part not some sort of ferniture

I remember going to a car show when i was young (i'm only 19 now so was bout 8-10 at the time) and seeing a s3 in like that mustard yellow colour and it had leather maroonish (same colour as leasther interior) engine covers, amazed me at the time but aint seen nothing like it since.

everyones bay is soooo much nicer than mine!!

i may make it my winter project to tidy it up a little bit, underneath my engine cover looks like ****** spaghetti junction, any tips for making it look more presentable down there?

a3 tom: that cover is stunning, the time and effort is o so worth it mate!!

richa3turbo: also a stunning engine bay, a very good effort there, is that powdercoated?

Used wrinkle paint for manifold and rocker cover. works quite well and is pretty tough once baked.

I didnt want the covers anymore...an engine bay full of plastic and covers is a bit dull IMO

I won't bore you all with my standard S3 engine bay, so here's my dad's 1967 MGB Roadster with 4.0l Rover V8 conversion;

'Twas plucked from the Range Rover production line just before they stopped making the previous generation Range Rover. Fitted with a Weber 500 carb, custom manifold and exhaust as well as other stuff.
Being that my dad has been living abroad since he had the car built it's me who has put the majority of it's 9,000 miles on it.
Great cruiser, great noise!

No need for undercoat

I cleaned all the parts in my parts washer with some thinners to get rid of all the grease and dirt, washed off and dried, then you lightly spray a layer on wait about 15mins and then give it a thick 2nd coat, make sure its a even coat with now runs.

Once thats done you need to bake it on in a oven or with a paint stripper gun.

wave the gun over the paint at about 12in away, you will see it start to crackle and just fallow the crackle as it spreads.

Not running yet as I need some new plugs so I will be running them at 1mm

Also need a new hose for the t/b to map sensor pipe

Might I also suggest you consider moving the DV outlet in the TIP further away from the MAF housing as I have seen this make the MAF go funny as it can disrupt the flow going through it making the ECU think the airflow is lower...

I prefer the OEM look and all covers on for my S3, keeps everything clean and tidy, not that it isn't a mess underneath. Replaced the front seals as I was missing one, and the one left was just a headlight size. The longer seals stop a lot of dust getting through.
Below my old 106, ECU moved to glove box, battery in the boot, was more plans to tidy it up further but I moved on to the S3.
