Does anybody know where I can get a smoke tester from???
I've a few boost leaks but can't find anything obvious :)
Or does anybody have one I could use ?
Don't have enough time to fanny around with a garage so thought I'd try and buy one but don't even really know what I'm looking for
All help would be appreciated thanx lads

I think they are a Fair bit of money mate, like 600 plus. Think badger 5 got one fairly recently. Most tuning/development garages will have one, cost me £25 to get mine tested, which just revealed Pcv leaks.

I bought a tester kit off German eBay, which was just the adapters for pressure gauge and tyre valve which also does the trick, but no smoke.

Can vouch for them being expensive... Bill 'invested' in one... they are not a particularly cheap DIY option to buy for yourself...

They are brilliant though... :D

Ouch 600 il be giving that miss lol

How do you go about doing this mate
As I have access to a compressor

It's pretty basic. you need a bung with attachment to put the compressor on. This goes in one end of the boost system, silicone hose after charge pipe. Then you need a bung for the other end, hose that goes onto the TB. Put 30 odd psi through it and listen for air p!ssing out.

I have a kit that will be up for sale very shortly, as soon as I get back int he country. It will let you pressurise and check for leaks, but no smoke. PM me if you're interested!

This is what iv got, works great if you have got a silicone tip. Although it does pass through the turbo seals.

Thanx for your imput guys
Spent 3 hours refiting hoses and clips and all is a lot better :)
From 14 psi to this

Smoke pressure kit is between £7-800 last time I checked & tbh its far better than air based version as such, as you can see immediately where it is leaking, wish I had 1 tbh as I made one up, works fine but for small leaks you could never really find the leak that easily.

Tooooooo much ££££££££

I didn't use a tester just ****** around with all the hoses till I got the rite one
Just got in and it's reading 22.6 :)

All FMIC hoses was it? I need to change over the clips I'm using as I'm not a fan of the T-clamp things I'm currently using.
Ive not done a fmic yet
I've modified the hose unto my throttle body and that was the culprit

are you guys running stage 2 plus? because according to vagcom im only seeing 17-18 psi. Dont know who mapped my car

Mine is revo stage 2 software, mapped at Badger 5. Bill mapped mine to 21psi as my old FMIC wasn't cooling the charge air too much and my fuel pump was failing. I'm visiting him in January for a health check and map tweaking now I have a new fuel pump and bigger FMIC so shoul get more boost put in the map.

Anyone know of any places in Birmingham that can carry out a smoke test? Thanks

I know its the expensive route, but audi usually have smoke testers as I've used there's before :)

Thanks for the reply Nigel, do you remember approx how much they charged?

I'll be honest, I got it foc as I know the master tech at my dealer guys due to business etc :)

But all comes down to hourly charges with audi, a leak test would be 30 mins to 1 hour max, if that as a leak should be very apparent in 5 minutes flat.

Damn, good to know people in the right places lol
Thanks anyway Nigel I'll see what Audi quote me :)

Whereabout in Birmingham are you?

I know its not in Brum, but R-Tech in Hinckley defo have one.

What seems to be the issue with the car (which car is it?)

5 mins away from city centre Nilz

The car is a 1.9tdi SE 55plate BKC 120,000 on the clock

I feel as tho there's a lack of power I say that because my mate has the exact same car but in sport and his car feels much more poky (his car has 95,000 on the clock don't know if that is the reason why) and I can sometimes hear wind noise, like wind escaping from somewhere but not sure if that's just my ears lol

My first diesel so don't know if I'm just being a noob sorry :)
