s3 CID car

Oh I totally agree chaps, why they cant buy other cheaper brands is beyond me considering these brands also have speedy cars, especially when some are plastered with police across them, so its not like they're incognito is it lol.

Interms of SA, those cars will go missing knowing how corrupt they are there or some fat cat police chief will be driving them, I have no real regard for SA cops from my experiences, if you got stopped back in 01, allot could be bribed to look the other way, not I was 1 of these said people you understand, but traffic offenses, drink drive pulls etc, all had alternative ways out, but given how some live & size of pay packet, I kind of understand why to a point!!
 
I agree it's ridiculous buying premium brands but I have to say if I see an S3 I don't think Police I think lucky ******. Whereas seeing any vauxhall or ford I become a bit more wary. If they are plastering the car with police signs then there is no excuse but for undercover I can kind of understand.

Comes down to costs. Buy a vauxhalls or Volvo and they are worth next to nothing after the three years they use them for, however more prestigious marques like Audi BMW or jaguar retain the value much better. So in a way its a good thing, the surplus from the sale of the last car goes into the budget for the next one, thus less taken from the tp to cover it (in theory!!!!)
 
As much as I'd like to think a goverment/forces thinks like that mate, in real life I doubt it even goes that close, also even the lesser brands have some residual value at end, but if you consider the loss of the more prestige cop cars & the considered lower brands, then overall I would hazard a guess the more loss is on the prestige vehicles.

Saw a fat A6 maybe S6 on M23 last night.
 
A jaguar retain its value ? thats a first then :)

sorry but these days its the Fiesta and corsa's that retain value.
 
An under cover police officer round here would need a Rolls Royce and a chauffeur or he would stick out like a sore thumb :)

I have seen it had a run in with it too, very lucky i must add, he flashed the blue and red lights in the bumper and we gave way got a nasty stare not surprised considering the car

1 x 3 door black 8p3 S3
2 x 3 door 8p3 (not S3) 1 white and 1 Akoya Silver
1 x A6, white
1 x Q7, black with tinted back windows

Saw all of them, been stopped by 4 of them :undwech:
 
There's a snazzy silver A6 s-line saloon 3.0v6 s/c I think, used as an unmarked arv round Birmingham. Pretty damn quick lol

We used to have Escort Cosworths. Anyway, there's a few cop bashing comments on here so I'd like to add my two penneth worth. There is good and bad in EVERY walk of life and the Police Force is no different, god knows I've worked with some tools. However, as far as Motor Patrols is concerned, maybe an insight into the job would make you see things different, instead of the opinion that, 'Who the hell was he to not allow me to do 120 on the motorway, the black b*****d. Hasn't he got any burglars to catch......?'

The majority of lads (and lasses) stopped by traffic for being less than sensible are treated with contempt by traffic police and there is a reason for that. It's because we see and have to deal with the aftermath when it goes wrong. For example; I stopped a lad doing 70mph in a 30mph limit. Yes you read that right. When he stopped, I walked up to the drivers door, opened it and switched off his car and removed the keys, I asked him to get out. When he did, I immediately arrested him for dangerous driving. I told he was nicked and why, and cautioned him. The only other thing I said to him on the way to custody, was as he was ranting and raving at me in the back of the car, to be quiet and save it for the tape. He made a complaint about my attitude.

Two weeks prior to that, about 2 mile away from where I stopped this lad, a young man who's mother must have been extremely proud of, was doing a similar speed in a majorly build up area. He lost control at a junction and hit a 4 foot high brick wall around a garden. Unfortunately, between the brick wall and the front of his car, was a little 5 year old girl, having just taking two steps out of the corner shop with her mother. The accident investigation team deduced that at the point of impact he was doing between 45 and 55 mph. Have you any notion of the scene? The officer first on scene had to have counselling for months and he ended up coming out of traffic and going into the control room.

I'm sorry but it boils my **** when I read posts on forums from people who have been a bit silly in their cars, and then slate the Police for what happens to them.

I have a tip, try this; Drive within the speed limit or in a manner that befits the prevailing weather conditions, use correct signalling and road positioning, make sure your car is MOT'd (if required), insured, and taxed and that you are licensed to drive it. Wear your seat belt, and be considerate to other road users and you know what? I reckon you might just see that Traffic cops 'ego' disappear.

OK, rant over. Back to topic. Speaking from experience, the Police have tried with the 'budget' end over the years. We used to have Cavalier GSi's that were hiked up power wise. They were pants and just couldn't cut the mustard. The brake fade on a chase was a proper brown trouser moment. The Escort Cosworths sorted that, and the power was better, but that was a start to the 'expensive' car buying. The build quality and engineering of german cars makes them more than up to the job. Yes they are expensive initially, but that is tempered by the reliability compared to the 'off run' time from police cars of yesteryear. The Insignia VXR has been mentioned. I think that may be a good choice if they were to try and save cash, given the running gear it now sports. Its predecessor, the Vectra VXR, would have been fantastic as long as the chase was in a straight line.:)

I have a tip for you - Just as all humans, traffic cops are not all the same! and those ego's don't disappear quite so easily as you think....

What about when i got pulled over and charged for driving without due care and attention after following a CID car for 15 MINS on a motorway!! Both of us were just playing around with each other - accelerating 20/30mph over the limit, decelerating a little - no lane changes or anything dangerous went on at all.
Anyway the officer increased his speed to almost 120mph before going in the middle lane (thinking i would over take him) so he could record me on his front mounted camera - i did not pass him and settled in behind him, keeping a safe distance. He then put his siren and lights on for the first time during the whole event and i indicated, pulled over, got out of the car and was polite etc etc..

When it went through the two courts he lied and said he was attending an emergency call (with no lights or siren on travelling at 120mph+)

He won, even with no evidence. This officer stitched me up and even admitted on the way back to the station he just wanted to see what my car would do as he like fast Audi's....:faint:

I would never drive fast in a 30/40/50mph zones anywhere and consider myself to be an extremely safe driver having passed the driver plus test and also I have never had a serious accident - i have actually avoided knocking 2 pedestrians over in London who randomly ran out in front of me...! this avoidance was a combination of my fast reactions / concentration levels and the awesome brakes on my S3.

You seem like a fair cop so fair play to you:respekt:, i agree with most of what you said - I have one friend in the force and even he admits colleagues often go for the easier, less serious crime in order to meet targets....:keule:

I agree with you there are bad ones and I said so with my opening comment. If that officer was attending an emergency, your lawyer could have asked for the details of the log for the job he was attending. That could have blown his story out the water.

I know a hell of a lot more traffic cops than you do, and i can tell you that the type that you had a run in with are extremely rare. They do exist though, and I'll say once again, I did say that at the start of my post. Its the generalisation, and the 'painting all with the same brush' that winds me up.
