These last two days on my 50mile daily commute from south london to brighton I have seen the same black S3 '60' plate pulling motorists over on the M23. I was quite surprised as i never really expected the police to use an S3.
The type R's and ST's aint cutting it lol.
Has anyone else seen an S3 used as an undercover police car?

No
And I wouldn't want to

I live in Manchester, there's at least 3 near me! 2 3 doors and a sportback! Been stopped twice lol. Two are the meteor grey and the sportback is black, all three are 59 plates.

lol. This one was a 3 door. Ain't been stopped by it lol.:hi:
Theres also a '11' plate audi a4 going up and down the m23. I hope audi's don't become the police's new car of choice!

Quite a few A4 avants up here too!! Subaru, evo etc, there catching up!! I might have to look at stage 3 haha!!

They don't need these expensive cars, waste of the tax payers money! Stick them in tuned up VXRs or something, or Insignia VXRs, no need for them to be driving S3's, BMWs, Scoobies, EVOs, or Range Rovers and the other sports cars they drive, you can get fast cars from cheaper brands. They'll still do the same job, but cost us (the taxer payer) less.

Ive been told there is one about the Glasgow area, not saw it myself yet and hopefully I never will:whistle2:

Never has there been a better time to be a traffic cop, no wonder they rave about it :blahblah1:

Never seen one around the Glasgow area but I've seen quite a few 6 cylinder BMWs, either 330i or 325i going on the exhausts. They also have a blue focus RS with black wheels. No doubt that's to bait the younguns.

I believe the thinking behind using expensive cars is that they fetch a higher price at auction once the Police are done with them. That was also why they changed from white cars to silver just as white became fashionable .

My old man bought an ex traffic Police Astra GTE many, many years ago via a mate that worked in the Police garage. It was a bargain but it had holes all over the dash. On the upside, it had uprated suspension, brakes, exhaust, chipped etc.

The Police that pull you for speeding are not CID.

It's a tough job but I guess somebody has to do it.....

Police forces are usually hounded by car manuafacturers for volume sales of bog standard cars and vans - they negotiate deals for multiple forces and I think Vauxhall has recently been making a lot of ground.

However, the requirements and market is somewhat different for the pursuit cars and local forces seem to have more discretion to spec what they want. I wouldn't be surprised if they are courted by the prestige brands like BMW, Audi - and offered very competitive packages compared to the likes of an Insignia VXR.

If you look at the total costs of a mid 5s 0-60, 155mph limited car - then an S3 comes out very well in terms of depreciation, low Co2, all-weather / 4WD, reasonable economy and the all-important "Q-car" factor.

Agreed, the cost of running these high end cars is less in the long run. The police forces don't actually buy them either, they are normally leased or in some cases the manufactures "demo" them to the forces for testing etc...

Thing is they buy in such volume, they dont pay anywhere near as much as we would, same as motability scheme's, biggest car purchaser in the country, iirc someone advised they buy 150k cars a year, imagine discounts on that load.

Anyway I'll keep an eye out for these today as I'm over that way this morning for a member :)

Ok I can understand a Sportback but the 3Door? seriously? so what happens if you get busted and you got to be taken to the police station "just hold on a second while i move the seat forward..." xD haha still I guess it stops them sneaking out the back windows as the 3door ones DONT OPEN xD haha

Sean

There's a couple of fastbacks used on the Edinburgh by-pass and I know of 1 RS4 Avant (unmarked) in Edinburgh. This is the pursuit car used by the drug squad.

I was having a bit of fun with a new, white, 3litre tdi A5 on the m23 last year for about 15mins.... I was behind him at all times, we did go over the speed limit, quite a bit (im not ashamed, it wasnt dangerous).... it went in to the middle lane to let me overtake but i noticed it was a pig driving so i didnt pass him. Suddenly blue lights and a siren come on...!!!:keule:

To cut a long story short, he pulled me over and i got done for driving without due care and attention after going through the whole court process. He didnt have me on video going over the limit but his video showed him doing 'silly speeds' his evidence was i was tailgating him and the courts found me guilty....:wtf: not nice. There was cameras only to the front of the car.

Eveyday i drive in london and i see LOADS of undercover pigs, in brand new beemers, range rovers, golf GTI's!, Volvos... the list is endless. Im actually considering selling my S3 because THEY dont like the fact we have these nice cars. that and the fact my insurance is now silly expensive due to the points i now have...(had a clean license for 12 yrs b4 this happened to me:sob:

Its like this: cops are out to entrap us now at any cost in order to meet unrealistic targets to generate money for the evil elite of this country. The courts always side with the cops even if there is no evidence against you. DISGUSTING!!!!!!!

Seen this happen before, i actually fell for it when my next door neighbour was blasting his range rover up behind me late one night as i was on the way home, i took the bait and waxed him, at this point i didn't know he was a traffic officer for Leeds police, only for him to pull up to the side of me as i parked my car on my driveway and he's waving his police card thingy, he said 'do you realise what you've just done', i said yeah (obviously my **** was dropping out of my pants by this point), 'i've done it and there's nothing i can do now is there?' his reply was, 'don't worry lad, i was just playing with you, quick car that (pointing at the MK5 TSI 170 GT on my drive), we're neighbours and we lookout for each other don't we?', in my head i was like 'WTF'?.. My reply was 'yeah course', put my **** back in my pants and went in my house.

Now that was a touching cloth moment.

He was off duty and was off home in his RR, there were no blue lights, his house is smack bank opposite mine, always spoke to him before and after that, i just never knew he was a copper!

Strange carry on it was.

Live and learn as they say, morel of my story is always find out what your neighbours do for jobs!

id go careful as their are a few police officers who are registered on here. the angel tuning remap day i attended was organised and attended by a few. (no im not one lol)

I see your point mate but theres absolutely nowt they can do on here or use any info against us. Hey I used to be plagued by the rozzers as my old man was a very respected one and they always thought they would get smartie points if they caught me or my bro in our cars (Manta GTE and Mk1 Golf GTI). Majority of Traffic cops are a.......well, I will keep that to myself.

I doubt that off duty cops would be interested in cultivating intel from what they read on here .

It's hardly criminality that is discussed

in cardiff I've seen B8 audi A4's as traffic cars and seen a audi black 10 plate A6 saloon 3.0tdi as a undercover traffic car seen it loads of times too

Shows you where all the money's going in SA if they have 1 of them in Gauteng, that cars a fortune in SA for sure, never saw anythng close to that money spent on cop cars when I lived there.

They ordered 50 S3's for the SA police force. Makes me sick.

Yeah, long live the ANC huh, now ripping the asse out of there own country, shocking spending that kind of money on 50 S3's man, disgusting!!!

we have a silver one 5 door 59 plate in derbyshire don't do anything wrong and they won't chase you i guess ....

And when they do chase you, they should be driving fast Vauxhalls and fast Fords.. NOT expensive german prestige cars, a lot of expense for no reason, there are cheaper alternatives. They'll all end up ****ed anyway, a nackered Vectra does lose as much money as a nackered S3 or a BMW.

Yeah that's probably true mate, but there's no reason why they can't buy massive volumes of Insignia VXRs or Mondeo's, they don't need to be in these fancy prestige motors.

Buy cheaper 'range topper' cars in mass volumes instead of buying high end classy more expensive 'range topping' cars such as Audi, BMW & Range Rover.

You can get the equivalent SKODA or SEAT with the same engines Audi offer in their cars for a cheaper price, they're waxing our hard earning money (taken off us in tax) on cars that boost the majority of traffic coppers egos further, it's not now a 'tool' to do a job, but something to look flashy and give presence on the road.
