Hi my audi chums

i have the double din audi consert in my car with the aux socket and the stearing wheel controls, i have seen a post on here about an s3 with sat nav for sale and really want one now how much work is involved ? i would like rnse but may go aftermarket my wish list is below

still uses the control on the wheel*
aux still works
has sat nav
tv with tuner so the question is go oem or aftermarket ? dont really wanna spend more than £400 all in but the cheaper the better.

pic same as mine

OEM will be waaaaaayyyy over 400 if you want tv. A mkII rnse alone will cost more than that. You can get after market that will do everything but won't display in the DIS. Everyone here apart from Ash will tell you to go OEM :)

Sorry I cannot answer your question but I have what appears to be the same Concert system in mine. Where is the aux socket located?

Those Chinese units like the one below your Audi Concert pic are a waste of money IMO.

I haven't come across 1 person yet who rates them over RNSE.

Apparently even the colour of the plastic is a bad match.

wjat would i need if i found an rnse unit cable ect i dont really wannt start drilling holes for shark fins

No drilling or shark fin required. You can get adapters and a gps aerial that sits behind the dash. Not sure about the concert radio aerial though, I think it needs some kind of adapter. In reality it's a simple job. Swapped mine in 10 minutes. It does require coding.

My apologies for hijacking, I'm also looking to upgrade to rns-e, how do you connect an iPod up to a mk2 rns-e with full control on the unit??

A ami unit will give you full control through your rnse

ahh thats good dont wanna start ripping my car apart seen pics where dash come off and all sorts really not intrested if thats the case.

what will media do ?

It's a simple way to indentify a mk2 RNSE

You get better resolution graphics,

2x 32gb SD slots (mk1 has 2x 4gb slots)

Full iPod control if you install the AMI (Audi music Interface).

so in a nut shel if you have the money go for that one ?

Yeah, if youre lucky u can pick 1 up for not much more than a mK1

Just be wary where you buy it from.

Some for sale have been aquired by less than legal means!

Love the way you mention me! but he is right... tis true! OEM is wayyy tooo much money for what its worth!
especially with all the mention of AMI and TV tuners!

on another note £400 is barely going to get you a decent unit on its own. i mean you could go second hand and get an RNSE/Aftermarket unit but that would still be a basic unit that wont do half the things you would want.

im not sure that the RNSE MkII is able to use a tv tuner as i think that cannot have the SDS hack which i think is needed to have the multimedia interface which then allows you to connect other inputs such as tv tuner and dvd players into it, but that info may be wrong as im sure one of the RNSE gurus will correct me.

the reason why i dont recommend OEM for the headunit is simple... it costs way too much to get any of it working properly... for example:
RNSE - £400 ish... depends on how good a deal you get, some can get fr cheaper while others can be paying a fair bit more
bluetooth kit - £150 - £300
voice activation kit - £200 ish
multimedia interface - £120 in the link above
ipod cable - £100! thats a rip off right there
AMI - £ - not sure how much but also there is a factor of IF your unit will take it as older units wont...

and after all that its still not touch screen, menus are frustrating to use and not as straight forward as they could have been, too many buttons to play with but still somehow looks lovely in the dash of an A3...
oh and its a thief magnet

got my eye on one foe £500 its from a company who sell audi and vw rnse. mk2 in manchester. but i now know that i need the bluetooth prep as well. wich is more so may have to leave it just doing my fact finding at the mo

p.s off topic how do i do thanks all i can do is like and view thanks

i only found out last night about the add one i thought you buy the unit and that it ( i should have ****** know) damm you audi. any after market one you recomend dont want it to look like a cheap add on that wont fit propperly and plistic wont match.

Mate there are loads that you could get, but as i have said before no aftermarket unit looks as good in the A3 as the OEM RNSE... but thats just a compromise that i have learnt to live with since the aftermarket units functionality is so much better.
i would stay clear of those Chinese RNSE look-a-likes (like the one you first posted), they are crap units and have not really heard a good word about them once fitted.

if you want good quality i would recommend Pioneer or Alpine. they have exceptional units with the option of Nav and bluetooth built in...
you would need a fitting kit also but once its all installed the sound quality with your original speakers is (in my opinion) better than OEM... this is because (AndyMac will back me up here) the crappy built in Audi equaliser is no longer controlling the unit or speakers thus making the sound coming out of the aftermarket unit better.

if you do want more info on it (prices and links) let me know and i can post it... i just dont want to go into it if you are wanting OEM as i know i would be influencing you to go aftermarket.

another user here (Patelbadboy) has recently installed the same aftermarket unit as me and he is very happy with it! although the lucky ****** got his unit as a present after i showed him which one i had, so he saved a good few hundred there!

also just to add... as you wanted one that didnt look plastic... here is a link to Pioneer's site to their stereo surround which ties into the car theme 381320-14 Pioneer - Car Accessories - Car Entertainment

i know this is an old thread, but am ressurecting it lol
Have the concert with full bose in my newly aquired 2009 BE tfsi.
Am thinking the pioneers app radio sph-da100 (not the a01) since i have an iphone 4s
Firstly am i right in thinking i need the following in addtion to the HU

Does anyone have the correct part numbers for these things?
There does seem to be a choice, and with me being an audi noob i dont wanna get the wrong thing and waste money
