Hi guys,

Thought it was about time I did a build thread for my S3, got some big plans for it in the near future :)

A little history, I used to have a A3 3.2 DSG Sportback for about 2 years, then went across to the darkside and got a Alfa. Ran the Alfa for about a year and then decided back in March to get an S3 Sportback and picked up a 6 month old 2010 Audi demo car with only 2500 miles on the clock. Its full option list being:

S-Tronic
Privacy Glass
RNS-E Mk II
Audi AMI
Bluetooth
Cruise Control
Electric Folding Mirror
Auto Dimming Mirrors
Auto Lights + Wipers
Electric Lumber
Through Load
Black Styling Pack
Rear Parking Sensors
+ all the standard S3 bits.

So keeping checking back for updates. I'll start listing what Ive done so far...

So, in the few months Ive had it I made a few choice modifications :)

Revo Stage 1 Software (fitted at Awesome GTI, 2 days after I picked the car up!) - this is how the car should have come from Audi!

Number Plate LEDs (got them working with no errors on DIS or VCDS!)

Fog Light LEDs (again working with no errors!)

Full Interior LED package (as supplied by EM tuning, looks great!)

Retrofitted OEM Interior Light pack (including puddle/door lights (looms from RobinA3, top bit of kit), and replaced OEM interior light with map light/LED downligher unit)

Genuine Audi Iphone 4 Cradle (goes in the armrest, a very expensive phone charger in essence!)

Autotech HPFP Internals (Fitted about a week ago). Just to note anyone thinking of doing this at Stage 1, do it! The car feels amazing now and Ive been logging fuel rail pressures on VCDS and they are much better now. The standard fuel pump struggles even at Stage 1 when under high load/revs.

Plenty of VCDS mods (what a tool!) - including adding TPMS for free!

MY2011 Airbag Cover (suppled and fitted by N8/Luke - top stuff!)

So the next thing is going to be Stage 2+ in the next few weeks, cant wait! I don't have any pictures of the mods Ive done so far, but from now on will load everything up here :) Watch this space!

Just found a few random pics of the HPFP mod I took when I was fitting it (not very exciting pics though!)

Think this is the best mod Ive done so far to the car, pulls like a train all the way to the redline now!

Good stuff so far!! Love Sprint Blue favourite colour by far!!!

Keep us updated!

Beautiful car & colour looking forward to your updates

Beautiful car Silky! Looking forward to yourupdate, dude. xx

Well on the road to Stage 2+ now!

Got my new ITG CAI fitted yesterday, and man its awesome! Firstly thanks mush for to GNJ_Motorsport on here who sorted me out with a great price, and for fixing the issues I had with delivery. (PS - never use Yodel to delivery anything!).

I've only done around 50 miles since fitting it, but the car feel so much more 'urgent' and 'free', like it can finally breathe! I was expecting it to be much louder but its not loud at all, just nice air woosh nosies and you can here the turbo dump, spool, and flutter much better! Just what I wanted really, its perfect.

Fitting was a bit of nighmare especially the rubber mounts for the heat shield, I had to open up the holes very slightly to get the rubber bungs in as no way there where going in with standard size hole! Apart from that it went pretty smooth. I'm not yet convinced by the foam heat shield but well see how we go with it. Has anyone done back to back tests with and without? I think I might fit a cold air feed duct up from the fog light grill.

Before fitting I also wrapped the alloy parts in Reflect-A-Gold heat tape, to help with air intake temps and to add a bit of bling to the engine bay! Hopefully it will help once the weather warms up again.

Anyway, here's some pics:

DP and Stage 2+ map next! :)

Is your filter head oiled? Writing looks way too white? Head should be tacky with silkolene oil otherwise dust can penetrate media.

Other than that she is looking hot!!!

Yes it is mate, do you think I should put more on?

PS - It was your great threads that made me go for the ITG and the tape wrapping! Thanks!

Warren - Also mate, can you give some details about the ducting you used from the fog grill to the filter head? What size pipe do you use etc?

Thanks :)

love the gold. im doing this to my lowly 8L.

however, worrying about air temps before the turbo is pretty pointless when the turbo is effectively an oven. thats what MAHOOSIVE intercoolers are for!

100mm ducting hose from passenger side fog light that turned up into inner wing and straight to filter head.

However I'm not sure it works on facelift model as when I changed the fog light bulbs on my new one after taking the grille out all I could see was a venting duct which seemed to go back to the brakes. Haven't yet worked out an alternative.

Thanks mate. Just whipped the filter head off and sprayed it with more oil :)

Just had a look at my foglight grill area and on my 2010 car they is a clear'ish path from the grill up through a hole in the body/frame of the car and up to the filter. Has your 2011 car changed from this?

Also, how tight fit was the 100mm ducting? Ive found 102mm (102mm Diameter Neoprene Black Air Intake Hose/Brake Ducting for Revotec - larkspeed.com) and 89mm (089mm Diameter Neoprene Black Air Intake Hose/Brake Ducting for Revotec - larkspeed.com). Which is best to go for do you think?

Thanks!

There is a plastic gully channel behind my fog light which wouldn't take my 100mm hose. I'd go for the smaller pipe as it may mean you have a bit more scope for channelling it. Bigger pipe means more water gets sprayed up into filter head in heavy spray conditions, I think I'm going to have to buy smaller. Cap the top of the hose into engine bay with tights or a neoprene sock to try and stop excessive crap being sucked straight on filter head as you'd be surprised how much **** gets passed up from low level intake!

Spot on 89mm ordered. I'll raid my GF draws for some tights! Thanks :)

For sure mate, but it does look bling!

Also, you shouldn't make the pipe too big as that vent area is for cooling the gearbox as far as I know.

Good point, I'll check this out when fitting it. My MY2010 doest have any direction ducts etc that point towards to gearbox though.

I have to say that I didn't bother with any ducting from the wheel arch area to the ITG intake on mine and as they say, power is sufficient.

What really does make a difference to intake temps is a big intercooler and if you're looking at Stg 3 or above, then water injection as well.

very nice one, sprint blue FTW :icon_thumright:
do you have any plan of installing these oem alu/met.grey roof liners (or what you call it) matching with mirrors? they look great imo :icon_thumright:

Cheers, do you mean roof bars mate? Yes I like them as well, but dont really want to drill my roof! :)

So today, I finally got round to fitting a cold air feed from my fog light grill up to the ITG filter head. I got the hose to do this from here: 089mm Diameter Neoprene Black Air Intake Hose/Brake Ducting for Revotec - larkspeed.com It was a prefect fit and was just the job:

Photo to show size of tube, its fairly stiff but can be compressed into shape

IMG_0298.JPG

Filter head off, plenty of space

IMG_0299.JPG

Pipe pulled up through from fog light grill

IMG_0300.JPG

Down at the fog light grill, tights stolen from GF to help filter the air and stop the worse of the muck getting to the filter head!!

Filter head back on, you can just see it poking up from the bottom.

Haven't been for a drive yet, but I'll let you know if it feels any better!

:)

I have 1 of these with my ITG Maxogen. It was there from the previous owner so no idea if it helps, I can't see it doing any harm though.

Just a word of advice for anyone removing an intake, remove the bolt that holds it in place on the engine on the pipe going up past the battery to the rear of the bay. I didn't and just a little twist to remove the filter head and it snapped clean off :( Going to have a look at a solution tomorrow, I think the superglue will have to come out!

Silky, When i pull off the fog surround i cant seem to find a hole leading up to the engine bay? did you need to cut access for the pipe to come down and out??
