Hey,

I will be retrimming my interior over the winter as my a3 has cloth seats ( £1000 extra when I was looking for my car for equivalent with leather) but I am unsure what colour to go for. My car is a 3 dr tdi in maurituis(sp) blue. My favourite colour of leather in cars is red but I just don't think that will work on my car. I thought about anthracite/black with a lighter top stitch, but is that boring?? Possibly tan or seashell or something?? Maybe a baby blue or something, but then should I at my age be thinking sensible things such as resale value!!

Opinions welcome!

i'd go for anthracite with light stitching. remember you sell the car one day... how much you paying for the re-trim?? & where you having it done?? :friends:

Sorry i should have said I work in a leather shop for rolls royce as a trimmer so will be doing it myself! Yeah that would look good, maybe a light blue top stitch......

I have recently bought a couple of tired old interiors so might just do a few and see what looks best!

Thanks

i think you could make some ££££ on here if you advertised. get some pics up of your handy work

Probably could make a few quid on the side the trouble being is that I can only really do work in the evenings on my own/mates cars so it takes a while to do it, and most people want theirs doing in a few days! Plus the leather we use is mega bucks and everyone (including myself I have to say!) wants everything for nothing.

I will post some pics up maybe of a couple of the options and see what you guys think. I am not allowed to post any pics up of the things I do at work!

I also love tan, we do a full grain and smooth grain in tan and its lush. We also do one called dark spice and that is incredible, dark rich brown I just don't think it would suit the rest of the car!

personaly i think red and blue clash so don't do it won't look right , my fav is tan leather maybe blue stitching

That could work! Tan seems pretty popular!

Yeah I think you are right although there is a new shape 3 series in work that is dark blue (darker blue than mine) with red leather and it looks amazing! Does seem risky though.

I guess with tan I could sell the interior after quite easy as it is pretty neutral like black!?!..... Hmmmm thinking tan might be the way forward! Change my mind every minute though!

in my opinion it only works on certain colours like dark grey (lava grey for example) or black paint , tan is defo the way forward mate I'm thinking of getting mine retrimmed at the mo its half black leather and half dark grey alcantara was thinking of either full black leather with red stitching or as it is now but with red stitching like the pic N8 just posted in another thread today

Yeah i just saw that pic and that interior is awesome! I think just with red stitching and as it is now would suit yours.

yeah thanks to N8 thats what I'm thinking too lol , any thoughts on bit of stitching on the alcantara too , was thinking of the same sort of design as the current A4/A5 etc.. with a curve in the alcatara if you can picture what I'm on about lol

Bit off topic but how do you go about re-trimming the cloth? Just add the leather on top or remove pieces and use as a template for cutting the leather?

Been contemplating leather for a while now, but it's hard finding a set over here. What kind of money is it for all seats and door card inserts?

Yeah I know what you mean. I think the devil is in the detail with stitch work like that and can make an interior. I am quite fortunate because at work we have machines and methods of achieving some really stunning types of top stitches so will have to pull something out the bag for my own car!

Ta

i have been quoted 500 full re trim on sportback and 350 without door cards

Blue car and tan leather do go well...

Can't you do a two tone like my interior??

Have a look at the lemon leather on bmw's. It looks amazing with le mans blue so I imagine would look good in your car. Tan also looks great or black with blue or white stitch.

I think the tan sounds a good option, plus we have a couple of variants at work so will see what looks best.

£500 for a full retrim is much too cheap!! Materials alone would cost to me in trade probably £400!

+1 on the lemon, looks ace in the flesh! Like the sound of the spice aswell, personally I think that combo could work well!

Exactly mate my retrim in my rs cost me £1500

I will look into the lemon as technically I work for BMW (they own rolls Royce anyway!) so might be able to get hold of it.

Thanks for the advice guys!
