I knew it couldn't last forever, a week and a day into ownership and we've had our first car glitch.

Yesterday I plugged in VCDS to have a look at whether there was any fault codes after a week of running. There was one intermittent error on the boot light which when cleared did not come back?????

I looked through the options menus for anything trick, and decided to set up:

1) Teardrop rear wiper active
2) Syncronized mirror adjustment
3) Checked Nav coding and saw the setting for speaker test was set to Option 2, but only option 0 and 1 is listed in VCDS menu, so I set it to one (speaker test off)
4) Alarm beeps on/off with central locking activation / de-activation (nice subtle beep on this car, not loud chips like on my 8P2).

Accepted changes and all was good

Went to park in the garage last night, and the Park Distance Control (PDC) screen didn't come up on NavPlus screen. I thought it seemed strange, so I recycled ignition, tried again, and nothing.

So I went back and got VCDS cable, plugged it in, and changed all the settings back to what they were yesterday (e.g factory), and then tried again. Still no PDC screen. Took keys out, rebooted laptop, installed cable again, checked for error codes - nothing. Tried PDC again, and it worked?!?!?!!?!? (Screen is back as normal).

As I went to lock the car and get something from the house the car beeped as I locked it (I'd turned this off earlier so thought it seemed a bit odd). So I come back ut to car, go to open 09- Cent. Elect. under installed items and the search timed out. Said it could not access this menu item. So I run error code check again, and even in diagnostics checking mode it cant open 09. Cent Elect. or 46. Central Conv.?????/

It opened them OK yesterday so I don't get why it can't open it now?

Good news is PDC screen info is back on RNSe, but I now have chirps when locking, but not when closing, and only knows what else. Been using VCDS for 2 years now so I'm pretty comfortable with using it, so am wondering if this is down to (1) me, (2) newness of car and updates by VCDS need to filter through, (3) something else.

Any ideas?

I'm running a NHN VCDS HEX-USB+CAN cable with VCDS Release 10.6.5 (latest version according to their site)

Here is a copy of the Auto-Scan I ran on the car this morning (Issues highlighted in RED text):

how have you managed to lock your self out??
i have heard that disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes (maybe more) and then connecting it back will reset the module to allow you back in... heard that from the horses mouth (sorry nigel :p)

its not the first time i have heard someone to lock themselves out of the newer cars? maybe Ross-tech need to update the cables?

I've sent an email to RossTech asking them about it and given them a copy of what I've put in here.

Does seem very strange, and it's something I've never managed to do in the 8p2.

Does concenr me that there are values pre-programmed into the car (like the nav code for speaker diagnostics set to 2), whereas VCDS only shows values in the long coding for 0 or 1????

I appreciate it's a game of constant evolution, so may need to wait for a Rosstech update, but in the meantime I'll try the battery disconnect trick!

Isn't the CE modue & the Convenice module now combine on the 8P3? That may be why they are red?

Sorry to hear you're having these probs, Warren :(. The Central Electric module is now 09 and 46 isn't used anymore in the 8P3. I had the exact same problem with my cable not being able to communicate with the Central Electrics controller 09, until I found out that I had to lock and unlock my car directly before I did any scans. It won't time out and should communicate if you lock/unlock immediately before scanning  xx

Paullie, you are a star, I will go and try it this afternoon. :respekt:

:sob:

Nope, didn't work for me so I've gone and disconnected the battery (despite the manual telling me specifically not to!).

Left it disconnected for 10 mins, reconnected it, and now I have a 'Stabilisation' issue, refer to owners manual!

I've had to put VCDS laptop on charge so will try again later; nothing easy in this world!!

i have seen this before where the car is configured with an option that doesnt make sense but from what i have seen is usually a tag that ross tech are not aware of hence vcds not being able to tell you what it is.

Not issues already?! You had it sorted yet? What if you take it into Audi? Surely they should sort out the problems you've having on a 2 week old car?

Just got a response from Rosstech today:

Next, were your car's doors all unlocked when scanning? The 09 module will not talk with doors locked, so it's worth trying to lock and unlock the doors before scanning. If that doesn't do the trick, you may want to try doing a cold boot on the car by disconnecting both cables from the car's battery and touching the cables together (AWAY from the battery of
course) to get rid of any capacitive charge. Then reconnect them, make sure all doors are unlocked and try connecting to 09 again.

Also, I'd recommend using Beta 11.10 which contains the latest label file and support the newest cars like yours:
Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Current Beta

Locking and unlocking the doors made no odds to my car, and I haven't tried the car again since disconnecting battery but will try again this weekend. Problem I have is the doors chirp when you open it, and as I can't open Cent. Conv I can't turn it off, hence Audi will know I've been fiddling!

I've sent them the initial log file today to review.

Any more news I'll feedback.

Ah... the only reason I have't got VAGCOM or VCDS (guessing it's the same thing? :uhm:), is it's way to complicated for me!

You see this to me is hyroglifics!! lol

Hope you get it sorted soon bud.

Ah... the only reason I have't got VAGCOM or VCDS (guessing it's the same thing? :uhm:), is it's way to complicated for me!

You see this to me is hyroglifics!! lol

Hope you get it sorted soon bud.

Cheers Coss, no big issues as screen has come back, but RossTech are usully fantastic so I know they'll get everything sorted soon, I think it's a newness issue!

Cant offerr much Warren except that on a full scan i dont have a 46 position at all. Mine goes 42-44-52.

Interesting, maybe when I do the update it will become invisible?

I'll be watching this topic closely as want to carry out these touches to my new S3 SB BE.

Did the teardrop work ok? And is front already configured?

And also whilst we're on this subject - I was going to code my RNS-E for S3 startup screen, but upon collection noted it was already active. Can you comment warren?

Teardrop did work, as did chirps, but had to go and reverse them to get the PDC screen back. Synchronised mirrors was very useful for parking in bays.

Hopefully as VCDS evolves it will all come good.

Yeah got PDC screen on mine - so no messing for now.....

Now if you had the new 1 series hatch, I'd disagree, but as its a 3'er I'll let you have that !

He He, how do you reverse a `dislike`. Had a Stella keyboard mo.

Talking of reverse, I have reverse sensors too.
And an Automatic tow bar.

Jus no fun :sob:

Start using beta 11 as your car may have the latest 063 CE board, hence why no comms, once using latest beta then try again.

Alsooooooooooo, try going straight into module 09 instead of using autoscan option, so go into Select 1st, then 09 itself to see if you get comms direct.

Where you been Nige, it feels like you've been missing for ages, had gone straight to RossTech thinking you were off on vacation!

Great to see you back mate; hope all is well.

Ah mate number of things, 1 thing my gran again, yesterday went to see her to get her more positive on her feet for xmas as family over from Italy to see her xmas day so family gathering, she's in Bupa rest home recovering from op's & getting mobile again, so yesterday find she's getting nowhere, 20 min physio a week doing sweet fa, so decided I would cough up for private myself & making arrangements with my uncle etc, ring her later in evening to give her positive news about what we're gonna do as she's very down atm, only to hear her crying her eyes out in pain, the all I can say absolute cretin idiot thick headed staff, only earlier discussing said problem with her arm/shoulder, lifted her on her bad shoulder & broke it ***, so she was carted of to hospital again.

I mean seriously ***, if you're told the area is unusable & extremely painful already, do you go lift that area anyway, I have many words I could use right now but it would end up as xxxxxxxxx & a ban lol.

Sorry to hear this Nige, fully understand where your coming from as my gran was in hospital last year with stroke and level of treatment she received was shocking. Fingers crossed for you everything gets sorted once she gets some considerate treatment mate; take it easy.

There is always a temptation to be polite and not rock the boat with these things but TBH you just have to fight to get the best service, Your Gran cant so she needs you to fight her corner mate, deal with the doctors and management and bypass the "care ? " assistants etc.
Good Luck..

My turn :) reversing lights have packed up !

Nooooooooooo....

All VCDS issues resolved, but my driver window glass is rattling and there is bad wind noise coming from round the frame. Same with previous one so some things never change!
