Did the s3 come with a heated front windscreen as standard or was it a cost option ( as I can't find anything in the brochure )
As far as I know Ford have the patent, or whatever it is to heated front screens. When that runs out its fair game. That's what I heard once anyway, could be wrong.
The fact i have to scrape ice off a so called premium branded car 22 years later annoys me!!
don't patents only last 25 years? i'm guessing that means it won't be long before they're commonly seen
Mini Coopers and Passats never had them. I think you are getting confused with the button on the climate that changes the heater settings to defrost the front screen. They never had the heating elements in the windscreen itself like the ford ones...
The Ford patent for their heated front screen expired a number of years back. It's been availbale on VWs since about 2005, also on MINI and some other manufacturers. It is no longer exclusive to Ford Group cars.
I've had a few cars with it, and to be honest if your heaters are good then a heated front screen is no quicker to clear your screen than heaters, and they do break up after a few years leaving you with annoying strips of mist on the bits they dont clear.
I have just found out that Skoda Yetis have a heated windscreen as an option, So why not A3s??
we have a vw passant in work right now with a heated front screen so yeah they do have them and i have also seen mini's with them tooFord group does have the patent on heated windscreens. That's why they are seen on Range Rovers and on Jags when they were under Ford ownership.

I believe its an offence to leave a car running with nobody in it (or so I was told by a policeman once LOL) so perhaps this is why Audi dont offer it.
Surely a film with element in in could be fitted, like the stuff used for window tints. You would need to try hide the wires in behind the dash though.
I was wondering about this too, as I see my A4 SE's manual mentions that some models have heated screen.
If it is heated I presume you can still see the elements when looking closely? (as I could on my old 93 Escort). Can't see any elements so am guessing mine hasn't, unless they're too fine to see with naked eye now?
