1.9TDI quattro vs 2.5TDI quattro

It's not so much about running costs for me, I can run a 2.5 no problem, it's more about longevity! I tend to keep my cars for a long while, and I'm familiar with the 1.9PD engine, the 2.5 V6 seems to have 'issues' with cam wear if not serviced with the proper oil, and I plan to keep and use the car for the next 50k miles minimum, hence going for the 1.9 which I know will go on forever with a bit of TLC.

The woman wants me to consider a Toyota Rav4 D4D 5door also.... HELP! lol

As has been said before, both the 1.9 and the 2.5 will suffer serious cam issues if they are serviced with the wrong oil.

Regular services with the correct PD spec oil is a must.

Off the top of my head the 2.5 is 216g/kg isn't it?

If so it should be ok..

The November 2008 pre-budget statement included the statement that cars emitting over 225g/km and first registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006 will go into band 'K', at least until 2010/11. Under an earlier proposal (March 2008 Budget) these cars would have moved into band 'L' or 'M' depending on official CO2 emissions.

213g/km should equate to about £145 for 6 months tax... the same as my Seat Leon Cupra R 225 was... ouch!

What sort of budget are you working on?

Is there a huge difference between the 2.5 163 and the 2.5 180? I'm sure the 180 is the better engine with its 30v head and much better torque but I'm sure the 163 can be remapped up to a decent level!?

Are you asking me?

It's the Quattro I'm after, the 163 isn't available as a Quattro, just the 130 or 180. If I'm going for the V6, I thought I might aswell go for the 'auto' option aswell, which potentially puts the car into the 'L' taxband, and there's noway I'm giving more money to the government! I already tax 4 cars as it is, so to bump one upto 400+ is just taking the peepee!

I think thhat the concession carries forward for 2011/12 for pre 2006 cars

I decided not to buy it, I HPi'd it, and it was clear, but the woman questioned why I was buy such an old car with high mileage?(115k miles). I'm replacing a B5 Passat with 186k miles on the clock on it, it runs fine, but the bodywork is showing it's age, the A4 is only 3 years younger!

So if anyone knows of an 53/04/54 plate Audi A4 Avant TDi 130 Quattro Sport with low mileage and in Grey(specifically), then please let me know! LOL!

I was in exactly the same position as you about 10 months ago, i wanted a 1.9 tdi Quattro sport avant with the factory fitted gmbh kit and a mileage of between 70k and 90k, 6 months of looking and getting pipped to the post is what happened to me.

I really wanted a red one but was prepared to take any colour as long as it had the black interior, then i went on the autotrader one day and there was an ad, everything fitted the bill, had 88k and it was even red! but no picture and it was in bournemouth!, i'm in skipton!, after speaking to the garage i left a deposit!, without pics and without seeing the car, 2 things i've never done, just to get the car i wanted.

What i'm trying to say is keep looking and be patient, they are out there and one will turn up, 3 weeks after buying mine , a blue one turned up 8 miles away from where i live , a year newer and with 50k on the clock for less money than mine!, a friend who had also been looking bought that!.

had 1.9tdi's for years, a lot better than the 2lt tdi units in the newer shape and it was because of their problems i went for a B6 and not a B7.

Just keep lookin fella and good look!
