OK as it says in the title got the dreaded esp light coming on intermittently,, things done so far; cleaned brake-light bulb housings changed bulbs replaced brake-light switch,, starting to feel a bit baffled now,, the only other thing don't know if it could be connected had the battery tested today, they said it was working fine but only showing 57% charged ?? any thoughts ideas welcome....

On a happier note had my RS6's refurbed by b-ham city powder coaters,, if any ones thinking of getting there wheels done,, excellent job, very close to factory finish and only £120 incl removing tyres and re-balancing afterwards,, i'll throw some picts up as soon as i've sorted this ESP light :banghead:

I'm glad you're wheels came good. My heart sunk when you said you'd gone there, I was going to take mine, but know of two seperate people who had a bad experience with them, so I didn't.

Can you get the car scanned for the light?

Mine turned out great,,, before I handed them over I had a look at what was waiting for collection ,, as the price £20 a rim made me wonder about the quality of there work but the ones I looked at BMW, M,, plus other Audi and VW wheels were all good ...

As for the ESP light will probably need to get it scanned if it was on all the time it would help but i did 50 miles yesterday before it came on.

OK got it scanned one fault code that wouldn't clear ; 01826 steering angle sensor (G85) I did change the steering wheel about twelve months can't see as that could be related after so long , any thoughts welcome ..

I expect that's it. If the ESP system can't measure the degree of steering then the system won't work, so the light will come on.

You will need vagcom bud. Could your tracking been knocked out slightly?

If you can get someone to be kind enough to recalibrate it for you.
Where in the uk is sutton coldfield?

i could reset it for you but im in sheffield

no idea could just need recal maybe a new 1
no idea till its been tried

Neil, we could give the recalibration a bash on Sunday, I just read the instructions, looks easy enough, just need some open space on level ground.

Its simple enough to do, I have to do it now and then when I fit Cruise Control and the sliprings been knocked.

Code '40168' into ABS 'Security Access' section then perform the one turn left, one turn right, back to middle and drive straight forward and the light should disappear shortly afterwards.

Thanks jo,, really good of you to offer, But I've managed to get it sorted today, had sensor stripped out optics cleaned refitted and calibrated as you stated.. I've done about 30 miles today and no light yet so fingers crossed....

Hey Digger where in Sutton are you from Im in Lichfield....

Nice fella, good looking car you have there, im falling out of love with mine, need to get to grips with it to be fair I still look at it and think its a nice shape and still looks fairly modern!!!

Pray its not your steering wheel sensor........I had to pay £300 (£175 for the part & £125 labour) to get mine sorted - as the steering wheel angle sensor is all part of the steering wheel slip ring assembly....I do have the B6 style 6 button MFSW though, so if you don't have an MFSW it should be a bit cheaper ...or find a breaker....
