My rns-e is picking up 2 then going to zero satelittes. Do i need a new aerial or has it just fallen out

I retrofitted it last October

check to see if its a loose connection, then buy a new antenna....

1st of all, where did you mount it?

If behind the cluster or rns, thats never a location I use for this very reason, stick it above the glovebox next to the passenger side vent with 2 layers of good double sided padded tape, never failed.

NHN...

I have a similar problem but have not fitted a separate antenna... do you have any particular recommendation or will any external antenna fit?

Many thanks

The Mk2 I've just fitted to mine isn't picking up any satellites. When I received it, i quickly pulled the concert out of the dash and plugged in the RNS-e and everything burst into life, including it picking up 3 satellites and it finding me on my drive outside my house within a couple of seconds. All good.

Since fitting it, there is nothing on the sat nav side of things, no satellites and VCDS reporting 'Antenna for navigation open circuit'.

So flamin' annoying. Waiting for a new antenna to come now and praying that its that thats at fault and not the unit.

I always offer a sharkfin as an install option given the quality of the gps squares are few & far between, some work fine, some are just plain crap, only sure fire way I know to get the best signal is to fit a sharkfin, I've done numerous & always work very well.

Check the gps connector on the rns to see if somethings amiss, take the lid of & check the coax internally to see if thats somehow faulty.

how much to fit the fin ?

On an 8P I charge £175 supply/fit of oem sharkfin.

Sorry I should have said that I have an A4 cabriolet - Logically a sharkfin needs to have line of sight to the satellites which is fine for a coupe. Any options for a topless car :)

Yea I've done that Nige. Tiny pin in the middle is nice and straight, and I whipped the top off and the little cable from the connector looks fine. Thats why I'm hoping that the antenna is faulty. It looked a bit of a cheap affair to be honest. The sharksfin may be a path I'll take

Think I've just had an idea for what Mrs gary3306 can get me for Christmas :)
