...its now starting to bug me when I go over pot holes or bumps in the road, do you guys think its the anti roll bar or what are your experiences of this?

Thanks

Tom

Thought it was something like that, will get under there the weekend and have a look, was on both sides but the drivers side seems to have stopped squeaking/creaking.

Cheers guys.

A questions on getting the car up in the air to check these
Would you use axel stands or ramps?
I dont have access to a pit or lift

i'd suggest stands, so the load is off the suspension.

If its a bush you'll unlikely see much though. The rubber delaminates from the steel crushtube, and the crushtube twists inside the rubber causing the creaking.

Looking at it on the car it'll just look normal.

TBH by 10 years old every bush on the car is going to be past it. I had this issue on my old A4 and just replaced all the front arms in one hit. Tightend up the car nicely and lots of clunks and groans vanished. I'm about to do the same to the Missus' avant, as its getting to be similar.

Buy a needle adapter for a grease gun and grease all the boots except the cv , worked for me on my old b5.

Don't fancy doing mine do you fella, I'll help you of cause ;-)

I think I am going to all the front control arms replaced, anyone know of a good kit to buy without breaking the bank that will do the job?

Ive just been through this and after replacing all arms, track rod ends and drop links it turned out to be an engine mount. Sounded like a creak when you set off and lifted off the throttle but very metalic. When arms are gone it is a clonk as if you tap 2 metal bars together. I finally diagnosed the engine mount by having the bonnet up and setting off, you could see the engine lifting around 3 to 4 inches on the side the creak was coming from by looking through the gap under the bonnet. Meyle do a control arm kit for around 480 quid with a 4 year guarentee, they say that they are better than standard. You get what you pay for with these kits. My advice would be to find an independant and get him to diagnose the problem so as not to go on a wild goose chase.l

Thanks for the advice mate, mine was/is mainly when i go over pot holes I get a squeak which has manifested into a kind of spongey metallic squeak now tis always awkward to explain a sound! So we will have to see but will keep your comments in mind!

I have a similar problem with mine especially when the weather is damp/wet. I get a creaking/cracking noise when turning at low speed, it seems to be coming from the passenger side. Audi have had it in for a look but could find nothing obvious, they lubricated all bushes with 'maintenance spray' and the problem went away for a while. It's happening again so must be time for another spray up, and ideas what to spray the bushes with?? WD40/Fospro?

although greasing won't solve the problem if a bush or mount is perished. Like swarcup says after 10ish years you'll need to think about replacing all the rubber anyway. I've replaced all my front control arms, drop links etc with a Meyle HD kit and now need to think about top mounts and engine mounts. I still get a slight clunk going over some bumps some since all the arms etc are new it'll likely be top mounts or engine mounts. more money to fork out but ultimately the car will be better off for it.

Had a look and mine seems ok and what I thought was a funny twang was infact a mcdonalds toy in my boot, i had collected them all together from my little ones bedroom and put them in my boot to get rid of them DOH!!!!! lol
