Glove box damper and pin cost?

Did this a few months ago cost about£12 but check that it works OK cos the first work stiffened up so I had to take it off and get another ,This one only just works after I used WD40 onit
I got quoted about £19! I said no, and pinched the one out of my dads B6 before he sold it

£19 yeap that's a bit steep, not paying anymore than £15! Wish I had someone I could nick one off

A silicon spray will last longer than WD40. I trimmed a small amount from the rubber ring inside the damper, this helps it slide up and down with less resistance.

sorry to bump this ..
just fixed mine .. sort of .. but can the pins be bought by themselves? don't need a dampener just the pin!
And how do i loosen off the resistance so the glovebox opens freely?

Not sure about buying the pins themselves, it broke on my dads old B6 but he just used a small nut and bolt, the oem pin is plastic and will probably break again in the future.

Not sure what size pin and nut i need though lol .. can the damper come out without removing the glovebox?
lol .. can the damper come out without removing the glovebox?I had to take the glove box out of my b7 because the hinge snapped, so I took my damper off whilst it was all out. You should be able to remove the damper with the glove box in situ, but if not its only 5 bolts holding the glove box in (3 inside at the top and 2 underneath). Only takes 5 mins to get out and you'll need an 8mm socket.
I used wd40 inside my damper and shaved the o ring. If you go down this route, Don't put too much wd40 inside it or it will make a weird noise when the rod moves. The noise went away after a bit though
I'll try and have a look in the garage tomorrow if I can find what my dad used to replace the pin and let you know the sizes.

It's always worth looking in the Part Number Sticky before asking for part numbers, I've spent quite a lot of time with useful user contributions making that into a hopefully worthwhile resource.
