Hi, ive always loved the Audi S3 but they are slightly out of my price range... Budget of £10,000ish

Ive come across a Cat D Audi S3 on ebay, 41,000 Miles

What are peoples opinion on the actual value of this car and as Audi Enthusiasts would you buy for right price?

Thanks in advance

Get it bought, stop messing!!! He can't give you a warranty, then again cant spell it either! I'm sure all the high horse types will say 'bargepoles' but seriously if it checks out kosher, go for it, someone else will buy it after you, but I'd be wanting it for less money. My mate just slapped his BRAND NEW s3 into someone, went back to audi and had no expense spared repair all on the insurance, new cars will mostly always be repaired properly as it in the hands of the insurance companies, just listen out for the dash squeeking, them things never go back in properly, something to do with cold-heat-cold-heat over the seasons expanding and contracting. Obv use your common sense though when doing a deal, if it looks like a moody set up be gone quicker than a quick thing....

I've spoke to the lad about the car, got me worried at 1st, but then i thought about it more and it kind of made sense after involving the Audi labour! ha

they stole the dash interior nav and mirrors smells a bit fishy. how many peoples cars get broken into while at a main dealers??? if it happened at the main dealears the cost of a dash nav mirrors and interior wouldnt be enough to justify cat d a £17000 car imho.

Ahhhhhhhh....... I got that excuse, but he didn't mention the dash, just all the seats, sat nav and wing mirrors. And at the main dealers..... I heard that aswell. You'd of thought the dealer ship would be at fault and caugh up the stuff them selves, but if the didn't and Audi was replacing the lot i imagine it'd cost an arm and a leg for the labour.

labour would be all in house which is easily a write off. if he can prove to you that it got :ninja: at audi then offer him 10k. if he got it as a cat d back from insurer that would be 10% off the market value and dash, interior, nav and mirrors of ebay would cost him max £1500.

I decided i didn't want to take the risk, plus he's in birmingham, like 90odd miles to a car i was already worried about. Still got his post code and everything come to think about it.

The geezer is a ******! talk about spelling mistakes
He has no intelligence at all I wouldnt trust buying a car off him

Buckets alone new are approx 5k nav is 2k and the mirrors caps alone are around £200 each. Add that up + labour then it's easily a write off. When he mentions dash that could be the brushed alu bits...again not cheap to replace.

Spelling isn't that good but could be dyslexic.

If you are that interested get an RAC check done. Someone got one of these done to a car I was selling and I've never seen a car getting such a thorough going over! Paint depth gauge the lot!

i saw this earlier on ebay last week.
looks like a good car and is worth £10k all day.
i wont shy away from a cat d as long as it has been repaierd
to good standards.
but my question is why he only has one picture on the advert.
silly as it may sound, but if you are buying it, make sure you take
it for an extended test drive and get a good body mechanic/
body work mate in the trade to check for excessive use of filler which might
flare up as the car ages.
N.B. make sure you apply the same criteria regardless of whether the car
is a cat d or not because many accident damaged repaired car escape
through the safty net and never get recorded.
good luck mate.

They're not buckets

Quite evident, although standard seats ain't far off the cost of buckets when ordered as parts. It's possible it will have been bought form insurance and standard S3 seats bought cheaply to get it on the road. If insurance had repaired it then it would not have been categorized.

I think it depends what you want out of a car. If you just want a ****** quick car for bargain money then it's fine. May have a few rattles and a few unsightly marks, but as long as the story ties up at the dealers end (would be worth asking which dealers, then confirming it with them), as worst case scenario is that this is a car that's got a hidden past and being sold on 'with this story'.

To me I'd be more likely to turn down a car that had been in a major shunt as cars never seem 100% after they've been caved in. Cosmetic stuff is no biggy at all.

Could be a bargain of a lifetime, so worth following it up, just trace the facts back to be sure.

If you are stretching it to raise 10k then do you want a car thats going to be expensive to insure and will cost you £80 every fill up ? remeber buying it is only half the battle.

There's plenty of quick cars that you can get for 12 grand that haven't been messed about with
