EGR Blanking....

Hi folks,

Just purchased a 2004 1.9TDI A4, and reading up here found some useful things i wanna do, could someone give me a 'how to' on going about blanking the egr valve please?

There is a thread here somewhere, I've just searched for it yesterday. I've ordered the blank of the bay and I believe you simply undo the egr mounting bolts and slip the plate between the valve and the pipe, then put the bolts back in.

Does it make any difference to the car whether I blank it or get rid of it?

Hang on, if I get rid of it, I still have to blank it dont I......what is the difference?

Hi I removed egr and replaced with allard pipe , it looks neater and when blanked not in use anyway and with allard pipe you haven't got all the crap like in the egr to restrict air flow.
And yes still have to use blank plate .

Guys if this is blanked off, or removed for an Allard one, wont this throw a warning light up on the dash, which can fail M.O.T?

Im curios too as i have been thinking about blanking it off, Mines an 04 plate if that makes any difference.

It will only upset the ECU if it's an electronic EGR valve.
AFAIK, all B6's have a manual (ie controlled by a vacuum pipe) EGR - so no lights on the dash if it's tampered with, disconnected, or blanked off.
I believe the later (ie B7's) have an electronic EGR. Blanking them off would also need the ECU re-programming to stop the engine management light coming on.

Got allard pipe of eBay for around about £50 every think you want to do job plus instructions

Not true, The light came on on my 2003 B6 2.5tdi v6 after being blanked but it came after only removing the vacuum pipe first before I had time to blankl the egr.

same here blanked mine with a forge one light been on for 6 months now 03 130 tdi b6.

right so one came on when you pulled the vac hose then blanked it, and one just came on, Can anyone else confirm if the light comes on or not if i just put in a blank and leave the vac hose alone.

I have the pipe blanked off, and the engine management light hasn't been, nor is it on, now.
A good friend of mine is a qualified auto electrician, with his own auto electrical business. The info I posted earlier about vacuum EGR valves, and later electronic EGR valves came from him. He said: "If there are no electrical connectors to the EGR valve, and no sensors, the light shouldn't come on".
My 2003 2.5TDi (AKE) has the vacuum EGR valve, and the light has never been on, either with the vacuum pipe disconnected, or with the blanking plate fitted. Having said that, there are posters on here who have had the light come on after interfering with the EGR. So, I'm confused as well.

My car is same model and same age but my engine code is BAU so maybe that is the difference....
