Turbo lag on dsg

Hi peeps!Have a turbo lag problem,when pulling away there is a 1 second delay big prob when pulling away from roudabouts!but is ok when moving and easy on the throtle. Had a new flywheel fitted yesterday an advisory from the garage was an over boost also got the usaul whistling whining noise no limp mode but smokey when reved hard! cars done 100k 04 tdi dsg.can get a re con turbo fitted for £700 ,will a new turbo solve my lag porblems??

Sounds like the variable vanes in the turbo might be stuck open hence overboosting and not spooling up quickly

That makes sence!Do you think i should replace the turbo or get it cleaned out??

My S3 has done this from new...you just cant nip out into traffic like a non turbo. Its one of the things that made the 3.2 so much better than an S3. thats progress mate Its one of the reasons BMW were forced to fit a twin turbo.

Its worse than annoying !! its the reason i resisted a ****** turbo for years but times change and cars are not what the used to be. We are sold them as improvements on previous models but the reality is...Its all about every MPG and usability and tractability are not what people look for on spec sheets. They want to see a huge BHP and a high mpg.Its just ignorance bought on by the manufacturers.

im sure its not as bad as my 1.6tdi. there's normal turbo lag and the 1.6tdi turbo lag. it has fantastic economy but to move off smoothly from junctions and traffic lights you need lots of revs. imagine launch-control every time you move off and you have an idea of what it is to drive it in stop start situations

Surely after all this time you would of thought they would have it sorted!!my company car is a chrysler auto even that has no lag! come on audi sort it out!!!why does it take so long???could there be some softwere to sort it??

The delay in initial throttle response is likely from the DSG BUT the overboost problem is certainly not, and is probably a result of what i mentioned further up, and exacerbating the lag you described.

Is yours the 70 MPG + combined eco model? This has much longer gear ratios which will make the turbo lag seem a lot worse.

unfortunately this is normalish behaviour for the dsg - as you slowfor the roundabout, the gearbox will still be in 6th or 5th, even at20mph or so. when you accelerate, the gearbox then decides to drop to 2nd or 3rd hence the delay, then the turbo starts to spool.

try manually dropping gears as you approach the roundabout and see how much lag there is when you are alreadyin 2nd gear -if its not much better then yes you have a turbo spool problem as well.

Yes its the one. On the plus side i drove from Bristol to Nurburgring at an average speed of 77mph! and still had 1/4 (190miles range) left in the tank

I have driven the 1.2tfsi and 1.4tfsi in the A1 and i couldn't detect any turbo lag. I would prefer that engine to my tdi

if there is no lag in manual mode, then you can fix the problem with a dsg remap - i had my change points moved up the revs range by about 300rpm and the down change shift points moved, along with other fixes, this keeps the turbo in its working range better without the manic revs of the sport mode (which just drove me mad on a diesel)

I still get a lag when stopped then pull off, it shunts forward.were did you get the dsg remap mate??
