HID/Xenon Headlight help needed please

Hi guys,

i have a 2001 tdi quattro facelift (1 piece headlights) and i am looking at making them xenon.

would this be possible from taking the ballast units and xenon bulbs from xenon headlights?? (from an S3 8L)

help would be much appreciated

not directly no. The HID bulbs from a proper HID headlamp are D2S fitment, and will not fit your headlamps H7 bulb holder. You'd either need the whole projector lens assembly, or some of those dodgy HID-with-a-H7-base bulbs you can buy from your favourite chinese importer.

The ballasts will probably fit though.

Aragorn, thankyou very much, i thought something along those line but i wasnt sure. Xenons are so dear for the 8L series, s i may have to go the chinese importer route.

You have projector headlights so just buy a HID kit instead of trying to source OEM equipment. For the full OEM setup you need the self levelling adjusters and washer jets too.

You got your TDI mapped?

Your best bet is getting a H7 fitting kit from Ebay, they are not expensive now and will also include the ballast etc...

The ballast is the power supply as they need alot more power to fire up than your standard lights.

Oh and you may or may not know this but when buying the bulbs, the higher the K rating the less light output you will have.

I believe standard OEM is 4300k, but alot of people have opted for 5 or even 6k, just for a bit more of a sharper look.

Aar0n, i havent got it mapped as was worried or ruining the gear ratio set up, not sure what to do on that front as i would love some more power.
