I fancy giving this a go but just wanted to double check, in the pic do I remove the pipe with the White sleeving under the egr and blank it at both ends or am I completely wrong lol!

i blanked mine at the end which joins the egr, i see no reason to do both ends of the pipe as one plate stops the flow of air in the system

I did the same - just one plate in between the egr and the pipe with white sleeving.
No need for two - one plate will suffice to blank off the flow of gases to the inlet manifold.
I noticed a slight gain in performance after fitting it - definitely more responsive.

So am I right in thinking that you remove the pipe with the White sleeving and place the planking plate where I have put the red arrow??

Ahhh I thought the pipe was removed all together and a blanking plate made lol!! So basically a thin piece of steel to slide in the gap is all I need with a couple of holes in it for the bolts?

yep thats it, i would use a piece of steel around 2mm thick as ive heard stories of these burning through when thin metal has been used. if you are making your own then i would remove the pipe and trace around it as a template.
paul100 the reason for blanking it off is to remove all the used exhaust gas from re-entering the engine and taking some crud with it. the idea behind the egr valve is to recycle used exhaust gasses back through the engine to improve emissions, Who decided that doing this would do your engine any good?
Doing this has definately improved the response of the engine and also i put mine through the mot with it in place and still passed the emisions test with flying colours.

I bought mine off the Bay - it only cost £2.95, 3mm thick, and made for the job - correct size, with holes already drilled.
Search the Bay for 'Audi egr blanking plate'. There'll be plenty.

Cheers chaps, am a engineer so I will swiftly knock one of these up at work out of titanium sheet, (no chance that will burn through) anyway thanks again and I will get results up ASAP!

Does the actual EGR VALVE need to be cleaned for this mod to be effective or do you just apply the blanking plate ?

Apparently it gets better in warm weather and worse in the cold, not Much at all though.
Does the vacuum pipe need removing or can it be left connected as in the pic above with the plate fitted. I have fitted the plate but also removed the pipe which I think is the reason my engine warning light is on.

I haven't got round to fitting the plate yet but I have disconnected the vacuum pipe and mine is fine.

The vacuum pipe can be left fitted - with the blanking plate fitted, it doesn't make any difference.
Before I fitted the plate, I disconnected the vacuum pipe - and the Engine Management Light hasn't come on, either with just the pipe disconnected, or with the blanking plate fitted.
Could the light be for another, unrelated reason?

Once I get the plate made I will re connect the vacuum to the egr as it's not going to be doing anything anyway.
On my car the light comes on if I remove the vacuum pipe and there is no other reason it would as it's been checked for codes and If I reconnect it goes off after a little while.
I have blanked the EGR at only one end as in the above pic but if I re-fit the vac pipe, the power reduces slightly and does not run great again. Pipe removed and it is as smooth as silk and up on throttle response.

I have read about this it seems to happen for some and not others, Try disconnecting the vac pipe but blocking it up, it may help
