I'm currently on my third A3 as, to put it simply, it's just the best car for my needs and nothing else in its class really interests me.

My current one comes to the end of its lease in December 2012, by which time the new model should be out, but I'm starting to get worried about what Audi are going to do to it.

The spy shots which have been leaked so far (Audi A3 spy shots | News | Auto Express), whilst heavily disguised, do seem to indicate that the back end is going to be like a larger version of the A1, which frankly I think looks awful. Audi seem to be mucking up the rear ends of their cars lately as I find the tails of both the A1 and A7 frankly hideous.

Anyone else here worried about what the next A3 is going to look like?

I think it will end up being one of them ones that grows on you. Although I do think they are going to make a hash of the dash. Like in the a1 :(

Well I'm glad people at the end of their leases are worried they're not going to want it - I'm at the beginning of my lease, and worried I am going to want the new one!

That looks awful, I really can't get on board with the A1 styling atall. Personally I still think the prefaclift shape was the nicest.

From what i can see i think it looks ugly and just a bigger A1. Audi will most likely spoil the A3 :(
I'll most likely move to another model in the audi range

too hard to tell but it will prob be like the rest on the new audi range a bit to square

Haven't you lot noticed that all the new models look like the A1?? All the models apart from the TT and R8 actually share the same front and rear design... The A3 and To an extent the A4 are the only ones now that need the update. The new A6 looks the business I think. If the new A3 looks along those lines it will be a good one...

I'm less than a year into mine - made a point of only taking a two year lease so I was perfectly placed to either upgrade to the new model or, should I choose to desert Audi, get out of the old model.

I'm starting to wonder what I'd actually do if the looks of the new model don't appeal to me. I really can't think of anything else in the same class which appeals to me (1 series, C30) so I might have to move up to an A4 or something, despite not needing or wanting the extra size or space.

im not too keen on the current 3 door model but it doesnt look bad, that being said the new one looks awful
i wonder how the sportback will turn out? also they mention an A3 avant?

the dash on the A1, A7 and A6 reminds me of the boring BMW dash... its looking like Audi are going that way and its a pity as i bought the A3 mostly on the interior as its such a nice place to be. I spend alot of time in my car as i drive it for work and commute alot as i live 20 miles from London which is where i spend most of my day... and i cannot see myself being sat in one of those ugly interiors.

guess im going to be driving the older models for alot longer!

People said the same about the 8p when the 8L was king.
Cars are going to be changing fast in the next few years and i doubt anyone here will be very happy with what's coming.......save the planet and all that nonsense :)

The A1 is growing on me a bit but as said, its the interior of my A3 thats my happy place and i too am not sure i like the change of direction Audi are going.

What is there to be worried about? I'll wait till it comes out and if I like it, I like it, if I don't, I don't. More important things in life to worry about

Just a bit too square! the rear lights look a mess :( I thought the latest style was smooth edge :/ Audi you list the plot! But then again Audi quality takes my vote any day

Yep - I wouldn't worry until there is something worth worrying about!

Love the A1, fantastic little motor, looks cool, stylish, a car I'd buy & prices seem reasonable to me.

Now if we were to consider that pic is of the final look/style we'd have to be fairly naive & stupid, it could just be a mule for engine testing only, got a while to go yet, looks far to much like an 8P to me atm.

I'd agree though, the old BMW pew bench surroundings are starting to creep into audi's, but what do we expect when all the technology is going into the central controls, so no need for buttons, dials everywhere.

Doesnt bother me, my next audi will be an RS3. Cant see myself in one for another 3 years (not paying that silly price for an A3, albeit a quick one)

The car in the spy pics is quite A1ish mainly due to the headlights and the way the tailgate appears to slick out slightly just above the tail lights. I wouldn't go getting worried though, the profile silhouette of the car isn't that far from the 8P really and once properly styled bumpers, skirts etc have been added I think it will be a winner.

Just don't panic, Audi don't do radically different.

Yeah & if the saloon ends up looking anything remotely like that I'd be shocked lol.

The saloon was just a concept and there's virtually no chance they'll produce a saloon version, let alone one that looks that good!

Shame really as they could do with something like that to compete with the 1-series coupe.

Welcome back Nat :)

Thanks Pad, and Nigel is right, look at this beauty:

I love the A1 and am seriously considering one for my next car. Shame they don't have a 2.0tdi in it or I would be buying one the 1.6tdi is pathetic.

The only thing that really puts me off is the price looked at the 1.4tfsi STronic 185bhp and after speccing it it came out at £26k bit much for a small car.

The A3 prices will surely be stupidly high and be much more than the current 8P!!!

Thats it. My car was £27k brand new (£4k discounts) so similar money for the A1 is silly. BUT. Like the economy etc, everything will just get more expensive with the new S3 being nearer £40k when its released. Either way I'd love to bag an A1

I'm with Jules I'm afraid - the front looks nice but the rear is just awful.

is that an s1 ?

No just a lovely Sline 1.4 TFSI. Think it's the 185 Bhp.

Just read that the Polo will be getting a 1.6 TSI engine late 2012 with 210 Bhp called the Polo R so possibly they will also launch the Audi S1 then,
