Hi Folks,

Well I was pi**ed off yesterday as may have knackered my RNS-E. I got the latest 2011 NAV DVD a coupl eof months ago and found out with nav point you can add custom poi's so decided to put the speed cameras on it.After trying to burn a dual layer dvd and putting it in the car it came up saying something like error, incorrect medium so ejected it and put the standard 2011 disc back and all was OK.
Then I realised I had a dual layer writer at work so burnt another DVD put it in and it said the same, but this time would not eject! It now says "cd/dvd unreadable" and when you turn the ignition on you can open the display but it still wont eject and then the display will not close unless you either give it a gentle push or turn the ignition off, take the key out and it then closes when you put the key back in.

Having tried about 20 times it will not eject!

I assume this means either the eject button has gone back to factory state and locked itself or the dvd is not in correctly and got stuck. When I press the eject it does not seem to make any sounds though.

Car is under warranty but I would rather not take it to the stealer as I assume this may be chargeable as it is not a genuine dvd?
Will vagcom help with this or do I really need to get some RNSE keys, remove the unit and open up and get the disc out?

Thanks,
Nick

As i understand it the DVD also carries the firmware so you may have sort of un- programmed it. Maybe it just locked its self so you could always try VCDS.

Don't worry about taking it to the dealers. Just say it's a music disk you burned (unless you wrote something on the label).

Just remove the rns from car with the lcd in the open position, remove the lid via the 2 large side screws & the 3 small screws on the top, then try & release the dvd from the drive, you should be able to release it as another member did yesterday when discussing his issue.

On my Mondeo with the 6 disc changer I got all CD's stuck and was told to disconnect the battery ( or any other way if taking the power from the head unit ) and leave it a bit

I did it and when I reconnected it the CD's ejected fine

Might not work but no harm in trying

Guy I know did this, made no difference.

Best thing is not to try and bootleg things in the first place.......

plus, if you have current OEM DVD just say using backup in case of damage :)

Thanks Guys and good point, luckily I didn't write anything on it as I didnt think ti would work anyway because wasnt sure about the booktype setting.

Thanks Nigel.

Had a go yesterday afternoon but my screwdrivers are pretty crap so the 3 little screws on the front of the screen would not budge!! Will see if there is a better set at work and try later on.

Also, did you get my PM re: Mirrors?

Cheers.

It might be the dive itself has locked to prevent theft of the disc and requires a code to unlock it. It may involve a trip to a dealer to open it up

You shouldnt need to remove the screws on the screen?? I just removed the 5 round the lid and then opened up the plastic protection inside and eventually got the stuck disc out.

Yes mate sorry just trying to catch up with untold emails after being down for a while due to utterly crap Dell hardware, had 600 yesterday, down to 280 atm, so give me a little while please :)

The drive was already unlocked hence when he ejected a disc previously, the drive wont lock by itself, it requires coding to lock discs inside unless his rns has had a fit & strangely recoded itself, not seen this myself, but nothings impossible, but unlikely.

As he said, no need to touch the screen usually, just power flip it down & unplug power then release the 5 on top.

Thanks Nigel and no worries, I thought I got loads of emails everyday, but 600!!! :wtf: Look forward to hearing from you.

Right sorry, now feel like a t*t, :whistle2: I was looking for screws to remove the faceplate to get access (been a while since I removed a stereo/nav)!! Realised I need to use keys to get the unit out then take screws off. Have been to Halfords on the way home and they had these (are they the correct ones - just notice they say Audi on them) don't want to get them stuck if they are wrong!

Finally managed to get the unit out and got it open, took the plastic cover off on the one side to get access to the disc but it wont come out!!! :banghead: It moves forward about 20mm but seems to be held down some where! How did you manage to get it out? Id dont want to push to hard in case I break anything in there.

Cheers.

Try moving the 2 arms at the front, as these move to the sides to allow disc access.

Thanks, I think we tried this but it seems something in the middle (I assume through the centre hole of the DVD) is holding it in place and the 2 arms did not do anything. WIll have a look again tomorrow.

I did however, manage to see someone with VAGCOM today so tried changing the setting in channel 67 to get it to eject and it didnt work. So I can only assume something worse is wrong with it? :(
