Guys,

I am now running Revo Stage 2+ with my 8P S3. I am the kind of guy that likes to know what is going on with my car on a regular basis and now that the car is pretty well tuned, it makes me want to know these things a little more urgently!

So, I am considering installing an OSIR mount (pictured below) and fitting a Fuel Pressure gauge and Boost gauge.

What are your opinions?

Where is the best place to get OSIR stuff? Them direct? I do not think I would want the carbon fibre one as I do not have any CF in my car and do not plan to have any either (Don't think it suits sprint blue)

Also, this one is only $60 plus delivery compared to $100 plus delivery.

What gauges are required to match the orange lighting of the Audi?

How difficult are they to wire up?

Thanks

Hi Boydie.

I used to have an Autometer Utralite silver / orange Boost-Vac gauge in my Leon (30PSI), and to be honest it was the greatest tool for keeping an eye on the health of your car. Cars pushing bigger boost carry much more risk when things go awry, and once I had a boost leak which was causing 28psi boost spikes which if I'd not known would have gone unchecked and maybe caused a catastrophic failure.

I didn't put one in the S3 as I couldn't find one I liked. There is the Newsouth ones from Awesome which sit ontop of the centre column of the steering column (behind wheel), and then the vent gauges. but I do like the look of that one.

Defi gauges are commonly used, but expensive.

Getting through the bulkhead can be a pain in the ****, and you may/will need to drop the glovebox which has associated dashboard light hazards (airbag), and isn't always a pretty job. If you have a Forge DV, you should already have a tap for the boost.

Look forward to seeing which route you go, but I'm liking the OSIR pod, very nice.

Cheers warren - yeah the OSIR is the nicest of the lot. Looks OEMish and I am not a fan of the steering column or pod gauges in the vents as I like symmetry and my air vents lol

Defi do seem to be the best for both performance and aesthetics but as you said, pricey!

Bulk head shouldn't be a problem, there is a panel below the the window wiper scuttle behind the steering wheel which allows access to the cabin from the engine. I have the DV so fitting kit won't be a problem.

What about powering the gauges? Do you need a control box or anything to "tap" into the car like vagcom to monitor pressures?

Thanks

Stick with podi gauges :) I've used ns, ej, awe.

Have you pictures?

I honestly do not want the pods up on the steering column.

I think they look best below the climate control unit and when coupled together with the non smoking pack allows more space beneath.

Work well in VW, but will blue lights work so well in Audi? Can you change the bulb colours like in autometer gauges?

Is there easy access to the cabin from behind the wheel then?

Yeah, there is a rectangular panel under the scuttle panel behind the steering wheel which you can gain access to the cabin from the engine area. It is just a blank plate for LHD cars (I think it has to do with the aircon system).

You have seen mine Andrew but if you dont like vent gauges, then mine arent for you!!

Yeah James sorry, just not my thing but you never know.

Are you getting enough air past the gauge to hit you?

Hard to wire?

What do you wire too?

What gauge is it? Boost?

Boost gauge, easy to wire, I used a 60mm gauge so it fills the gauge completely but if you use the 54mm gauge, you get a fairly decent airflow apparently.

See my post on the "other" site.

Have a look at these as well.... NewSouth Performance
I had one of these fitted to mine...easy to install, easy to fit and different colours available.
Awesome GTi stock them.....

Boydie, I had defi in my TT.. They match perfectly with the Audi clocks/interior if you go for the BF series in White with the red needle.. They really are second to none, you get what you pay for. The on off sequence they do is very cool, plus they sit there black when off.. I've been trying to find some pics I had of mine on my old computer.. I had fuel pressure and boost gauge in the Osir mantis pod ( the one you posted the picture of).. I've seen a lot of gauges in various cars, and defi were streets ahead in terms of quality.. The speed and accuracy of the needle because of the defi link makes them awesome compared to other more reasonably priced gauges I've had before! Lol.. Each to their own, though......?

Thanks very much for that mate, I do agree, Defi do look the best and that is what I am after but the price is crazy! Do you have to buy a control module as well?

Who fitted your gauges?

Did you have bother because of Audi Canbus system?

See email below from Tein:

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the mail.

We have products in stock which will meet your requirements, I
can recommend parts for you, but I feel that it is best that you
contact one of our VAG specialists for advice on fitting.

VAG use a CAN BUS system that may not be compatible with the Defi
product. By contacting one of the specialists, who are involved
in fitting these parts, they can confirm whether or not you will
face a compatibility issue.

For Fuel Pressure and Turbo, we can supply 2 different types of
gauges.

The items we carry in stock are controlled by a central unit.
DF07701 is the Advanced Control Unit.

List price for this is GBP126.00 + vat.

All sensors are connected to this instrument and allows you to
set warning alarms, hold peak outputs and replay up to 3 mins
worth of gauge readings following a run.

The outputs are then daisy chained from gauge to gauge.
We can supply either 52mm or 60mm clear screen gauges (Advanced
CR)

Defi-Link Meter ADVANCE CR | Defi | Product || TEIN UK LIMITED
Or 60mm only black screened gauges (Advanced Black Face - BF)
Defi-Link Meter ADVANCE BF | Defi | Product || TEIN UK LIMITED

Feature of CR gauges - 2 colour selectable illumination.

Feature of BF gauges - screen blacks out when ignition is off.

I had a mate of mine who used to own a motorsport shop fit them for me, and yes you need the defi advance bf control, which is like the central control unit for the gauges.. Then you can add whatever gauges you need to it, and defi do just about all of them.. I got mine from tein myself, although it was a couple of years ago. I don't remember any problems, but I didn't fit them!! It was on a 2002 TT, so might be slightly different? They did cost a fortune tho lol.. The control unit was like £300 on it's own when I bought it...
